After Korchnoi left the USSR he went to the Netherlands where he resided for a few years. He also participated in and every time won the Dutch Chess Championship. I saw him there once and he was truly a terrific person. A menacing presence and I am sure many of his opponents, especially the much lower rated ones, were intimidated by his look and attitude. A great player no doubt.

Hi Sam, first of all I would like to congratulate you for the channel. Your analysis are very sound, in addition to the speed of your talking and your crystal clear english make these videos very easy to follow and understand. Only a comment to improve, when you say stop the video and solve, try to have a clear board without stuff written, it's somehow distracting. Of course this is just a comment and it doesn't stain your work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Bobby fischer, God rest his soul, got all of the accolades for standing up to the Soviet Union by himself. Victor Korchnoi did the same thing but at great personal danger.

He abandoned his wife and son. His son was sent to the gulags.
