Күн бұрын

He’s one of the first guys that come to mind when you think players who were ahead of their time. Kordell Stewart was one of the most unique talents in football throughout the 90s as both an NCAA and NFL player. Way before guys like Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson were using their legs and arm to dominate, Stewart was one of the first to truly be an elite threat through the ground and air. But on top of being able to throw and run, he could even act as a very good receiver. He had speed, agility, strength and field vision and began to show those during 4 great years at the University of Colorado. He would join the Pittsburgh Steelers during the mid 90s and over the next 8 years, would flash moments of brilliance, but also moments of frustration. When he was used correctly, he was lethal, but if you tried to play him as primarily a quarterback, some of his weaknesses were exposed. He may have been best as a swiss army knife player, but Kordell Stewart was set on being a QB and he stuck to his guns to have a respectable NFL Career which really saw him push the envelope at a time where the league wasn’t ready for it. He dealt with serious rumours during the prime of his career, but was able to comeback to put together a pro bowl season and even though he always came up short in the playoffs, he still led the Steelers to some great seasons, which will never be forgotten. You might have loved or hated him, he may have made you cheer in excitement and scream in frustration, but one thing everyone can agree on, is that Slash changed the game

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American and male (this shows you where, when and HOW I grew up). In 2002, I saw his Beyond The Glory segment, and learned that Kordell's problems around 1999, were due to his mother passing away. I immediately became sympathetic towards Stewart. And then in March 2003, my father unexpectedly passed away, and life hasn't been the same for me ever since. That was when I really looked at Kordell Stewart as an inspiration. Even BEFORE my Dad passed away, I remember that on Beyond The Glory, Kordell said that "If he had been willing to talk with other people about his mother's passing, that would have really helped him cope with his loss."

I never forgot about Kordell. I have been a lifelong Chicago Bears fan. But as a kid, I had a Stewart jersey and an autographed helmet, because I always admired seeing him play every position and back then I always wished he was a Bear. Then my wish came true when he got traded to Chicago, but sadly, as is the curse for all Bears players, he was pretty much washed up at that point.

Watching Kordell as a kid and looking back, my first thought is that he was a classic "feast or famine" player. When he was on his game, he was terrific. When he was off his game, it was obvious as well.

Well, the very first Lamar Jackson was "scrambling" Randall Cunningham. As for Kordell, I remember him going all the way back to his Colorado years. He was definitely a supreme talent. There was so much buzz about him in his 1st year with Pittsburgh. He had a couple of really good QB seasons with Pitt, getting them to the AFC title game in 98 and 02, but he just couldn't quite get them over the hump. A solid to good NFL career though.

They asked to much of him and it broke him because he just wasn't a top QB and taking big hits rushing was a horrible thing. Once the league figured him out it was over. So Sad because if used correctly he could have been special far longer. Ok in the Wildcat but but exposed by big D lineman and big hits by linebackers had they kept him at Receiver DBs and Safeties that drag players down not trying to end their careers in huge open field hits.

You have a bunch of qbs who are threats on the ground, but none as elite and dominant as the level Lamar and Vick are on. They are great rushers even when compared to RBs. Both have had 1000 yard rushing seasons(Lamar twice). Other rushing qb are good rushers for qbs, but don't compare to rbs. Only Mike and Lamar.

Nowhere near Lamar Jackson but would've arguably been a much better player if he was able to play a hybrid RB/WR like Deebo Samuel, Todd Gurley, or Marshall Faulk He stunk at QB because he never evolved into an accurate passer.

Shit comp to lamar. Kordell was a very poor mans sammy baugh, sammy baugh is still eons past Stewart seeing how baugh was a 4 down player and played defense.
