Thank you so much. The Dan Bong is an excellent implement for self defense When I was a Police officer I utilized the techniques of the Dan Bong with my body worn flashlight. It is also a very important part of the art of Hwa Rang Do Take care and be safe

I use a bungee cord. It becomes a second weapon with rope technique.

While in Korea, I learned to use them differently, and there was no string. You held it in the middle with a loose thumb and three finger grip in order to snap it, as you mentioned. You also used jabs and blocks, kill strikes. I'm not seeing any videos of the technique I'm speaking of but then again, the school I went to taught Hap Ki Do in the oldest tradition and they weren't in the habit of advertising.

Thank you for your comment. You are right. There are many different concepts that are practiced with this weapon. My goal was to give a very basic version of the Dan Bong. Unfortunately I am no longer associated with the Northern Martial Arts Association. I am in discussions to create a new channel called Spirit Shield Survival. Thank you again and take care.

Just made myself one I haven't put a rope on mine yet I'm thinking attached a rope make it look more like a weapon if you have to use it for self defence
