The issue I have with the show, and it's true of a lot of children's media unfortunately, is the pressure for child performers to do more mature performances rather than sticking with what they're comfortable with and should be doing at that age

I haven't seen this show but the first thing that I noticed when the performance started, aside from her dance skills, was that her outfit and the moves she's expected to do are in my opinion inappropriate for someone her age. She probably sees nothing wrong with it at that time because she doesn't know any better, but she might look back at this when she's late teens or early twenties and be creeped out and ask her mom "why were you okay with this?". The sexualization of some of the kids in showbusiness, pageants and just the entertainment industry as a whole is disturbing. It's very creepy to me to see kids in child sized versions of sexy adult costumes. Let kids be kids.

Funny how Netflix is being boycotted for coming out with a (while still too uncomfortable to watch) show were the little girls do copies of some of these dances. Also beauty pageants do the same thing!? Its like HOW BACKWARDS ARE WE?!?!

Yes, their dancing is amazing but if you saw what they had to go through to get to that point, you might question if it was worth it. It would be really interesting if you could react the other parts of the show. Dramatic and unhealthy for the kids is an understatement... 😬 There's this series on youtube called Dance Mom's uncovered, and they provide solid evidence for some pretty messed up things that the producers and Abby have done. If you think it looks like a toxic environment on the show, wait until you see what they DON'T show....

Leah Unfeigned she is because of her brand and the target demographic is children who just consume it. Jojo will also have a viral appeal because of the way she dresses and acts (whether it’s a persona or not). Maddie is seems to be focused on things suited to her age group which is now late teens/early adults.

But Grandma OK should know that it’s just practice, practice, practice. No one is born with abilities, although some are more inclined to certain abilities. But anyone can learn and practice! If Zoey took the time and was really committed, she could dance like those girls too! Hahah

I'm not saying she couldn't dance amazingly, but not at this level. As you get older you get less flexible and more prone to injuries, thats why dancers "age out" of professional and competiton work at younger ages (late 20's to early 40's if you are lucky) This is not to say you can't learn to dance at any age and be good at it, amazing even, but it is dangerous to give people false hope about something that will most likely harm them. Practice is they key, but you probably won't be learning technical dance skills at 30 and expect to be at that level.
@blake0868
@blake0868 3 жыл бұрын
@Amp You should study Genetics cause what you say is not correct, cause humans DO born with abilities, like sing, draw, dance, etc. it's in our genetic code and it's passed down through generations. What happens is that most abilities need practice and training like dance; to dance well take years of practice and training to "perfect" it, but in cases like singing, the people who born with this ability don't even need to practice to sing beautiful, of course, it's an ability that with practice the voice can reach its full potential. But yes, sadly there are people that didn't inherit any ability, in this cases they can learn the ability and practice it hard, they might not be as good as the people borned with that talent or maybe they will, we don't know, cause it depends on many factors, like dedication, the quality of the teaching, etc.

Literally these young girls were and probably still are amazing dancers but this was accomplished at the cost of something so precious, their emotional and mental health. It's incredibly angering to watch the show because they even say countless times that they're tired or want a break or just don't want to do it anymore. Thing is I'm young and I'm not ready to have kids but I love them sooooo much and they're not even here yet. How is it that these women were able to put their kids through this? It just doesn't fit in my head. There are so many kids not only in these situations but in other ones and I just wish that we could all hug them and give them the unconditional love and support they deserve.

Haha of course Grandma OK is perfectly accepting of this, idk why I thought she’d be rubbed the wrong way haha. She’s so understanding. For me lol I still personally think it’s weird to teach little kids sexualized dance moves and dress them in skimpy outfits, especially for competition. There’s plenty of other alternatives, I’m in adult dance classes and we do innocent dances and just wear dance clothes lol. Nothing crazy like on that show. I remember when the girls got into their teens and were old enough to dance sexy, so they did a burlesque dance! But it was very much like other dances they had already done as children 😂
@wahooooh
@wahooooh 3 жыл бұрын
For the record though, the last two dances they watched were great! But so many dances on that show are suggestive! I like the dances where they don’t need to dance like strippers. I mean, strippers dance that way for a reason and that’s not something I want for children!
@s_rofbear
@s_rofbear 3 жыл бұрын
YES! You can teach dance to children without giving them sexually suggestive or super angst-y routines! Let them be kids, and express things that are relevant and appropriate for them.
@danni1993
@danni1993 3 жыл бұрын
@@s_rofbear I agree. This was quite disturbing. Little girls don't need makeup and suggestive clothes/dance moves to become excellent dancers. I wonder what a performing arts school would think if a child showed up looking like that.
@flowerdolphin5648
@flowerdolphin5648 3 жыл бұрын
@@danni1993 the make up thing is totally justified though. Dancers need heavy make up, because the expression has to be seen all the way to the back of the hall. Everyone who works on a stage wears heavy makeup for that reason.
@s_rofbear
@s_rofbear 3 жыл бұрын
Flower Dolphin - totally agree. Stage makeup is a reasonable thing. Like you said, it’s to help their character’s emotions be seen by people far back from the stage. Same deal with costumes, they’re not like regular clothes: they’re bright and sparkly or have long trains or big poufy layers of fabric. It’s all part of the “performing on stage” deal. Makeup and costume are tools to help convey the character and the story. A 10yr old girl pumping her pelvis at the judges though, and rubbing her hands all over her body suggestively... that’s not just “part of the stage performance” deal. That’s just choosing to make a 10yr old tell a sexual story with her body.
