That man said it right, it's on the parents to teach. My niece is spending the summer with me in Europe. I heard her rubbing it in while on the phone with her friend. I had to sit down with her to have a conversation about what she said and how her friend must have felt. She decided to write her an apology letter--she's 11. Her friend called today to tell her that she received it, and they both cried. I hope that my niece never does anything like this again.

God bless you for this! I wish all adults would be wise and sensitive enough to correct children immediately they see such acts but unfortunately a lot of parents are the ones acting in condescending manners that directly/indirectly are picked up by their children. You did a beautiful thing! I hope your niece and her friend develop a lifelong bond and share many beautiful experiences together. I'm quite sure she'll take lots of treats back for her friend too! When I was that age, my friends would buy things like furry socks or sparkly cups and pencils from their trips to Europe and I would get them ribbons and hair clips. None of us ever gave sweets because we would eat them all before we even got on the plane back 😂

@@SaffariRose lol! We already tried the buying of sweets, and they didn't last. We're off to the store soon to see if we can't replace them with something that's not edible. I like the fuzzy socks idea. I even suggested a journal, in which my niece writes a "I miss you..." letter on the first page. We'll see what she chooses. 😁 Thanks for the approval BTW. As someone who doesn't have children, my husband and I were unsure as to how to handle it. My sister approved too, so it's a sigh of relief. Have a blessed day!

@@vcwloves9864 You did great! And if you ever decide to have kids, I'm sure you'll both do just as amazing! P.S - If you (she) do get a journal, try to find as many stickers and cute stationary to go with it. I don't remember ever writing anything serious in my journal but as it was in the 2000s, I definitely remember feeling cute with myself with those pens that had feathers on the top, haha! Ah, all the memories came back with your post, so thank you and have a blessed day yourself! ♥️

I feel that TV and drama is also teaching kids the wrong values, I see variety show make fun of ppl like Lee Sang Min as beggar when he is working so hard to repay his debts, also dramas showing the chaebols and elites bullying poorer students are common. Also divorcees are made out to be something to be ashamed off, and when you try to find a date and when he or she finds out the partner is a divorcee, he or she immediately lose interest in the other party as if he or she is a "rejected person or a failure".

The father in the video is right if the parents teach their children well, those rich kids will realize that they're hurting someone on comparing. To be honest, I experience the same in our Ph country as a poor child. I was being criticized for being poor by a classmate. She's not also rich though. Just better income

1. Never forget your former background, where you come from. 2. Indecency /roughness has no place in a civilized society. 3. Teach victims how to cope with stigmatization. 4. Find time to launch philosophical debate linked to the issue at school.

South Korea in general is a comparative/competitive society. They are not alone in this but they do it to the max. If you can't discriminate on race then poverty becomes the next and biggest target. Other than cost of living this is probably a large reason why so many people (not just in S. Korea) don't want to have children. Who wants to see kids suffer through stuff like this especially if their yours.

So true! For two years I taught at a hagwon in a rich town in Incheon and even the first graders knew exactly what their dads and moms (if she even worked) did for a living and frequently bragged and compared. "My daddy drives the plane, what does your daddy do??" and "My mom is a lawyer and my dad is a doctor, so my family lives in X building!" and even from the dumb kids "Dad is LG company and mom is no work cuz I go Gangnam in middle school!" And you just KNEW some of the kids were going nowhere in life, going to end up some tragedy, in jail, etc. But not as important as the familiy background and where they came from.

The entertainment industry in ROK is instrumental in perpetuating financial snobbery & bigotry, the portrayal of korean bullying culture is very disturbing as it shows that people are bullied from birth by societal expectations, parents & grandparents, older siblings & other older people in general & of course those that have wealth & influence. I understand that Ahjumma have a tendency to shoulder barge, which is assault, but you would expect the older generations to be wiser, kinder & more patient but that doesn't seem to be the case. I myself, an ahjumma, by Korean definition, have been shoulder barged & rammed with a shopping trolley by an older Korean woman while shopping & this happened in New Zealand. Luckily for that woman, I was either in a hurry or just having a good day, because I don't take kindly to being assaulted. The bullying culture is highly pervasive & needs to be stamped out. Respect is earned, not automatically given because of age or financial status & those bullies that demand respect.... it is not earned respect, it is born from fear, which again, is bullying.

It might seem like a small matter and people might brush it off as “kids being kids” but I can tell you that it has such a strong impact and can be detrimental on the bullied child. Personally suffered it, affected my self confidence my kid and teenage life, as if it’s a crime to not live in a “rich people district” and in a private housing. Grew up and realised how lucky I am to have a roof over my head and how strong my widowed mother was to raise 2 toddlers in her 20s all by herself and have her own apartment that she fully paid for herself in a country where housing is not cheap. Teach your kids the right values from young and don’t raise an a-hole to society

sadly, class discrimination is not exclusive to south korea. other countries have it too. the inconvenient truth is, not everyone is created equal. whether a society likes it or not, the reality remains: a person's family lineage and financial status as well as social & educational background can give that person an advantage over others. it does not even have to verbalized or taught at a young age; the lifestyle the children enjoy and the environment they are in already informs them. living comfortably, with the right surname, having the right friends, and going to the right school -- indeed, value formation begins at home.

Polarization is a horrific truth about ultra devoloped country. Even we in india are not developed yet people like older ones likes to show off things but i must say most of the younger generations don't that. As we are so much rooted with our believes in god,the genz are more happy in what they are getting. I think less gratitude towards what we have and parents behaviour do heavily effect someone's personality. That's why Japanese people are so humble even when theyare ahead of us.

@@joyeetaghosh2209 believing in God does so many things in life. It makes you humble and your achievements and money will not overpower you when you are leaving things in the name God. So it's does. I think every culture has bad sides. But Korean obsession over rich and poor and buying luxurious things are on another level. Even the general public of European countries doesn't spent that much money on luxurious things. They don't even care about others opinion. And yes young people on social media but not every genz in their follow that type of fashion obsession. As we are growing economy. Money is much more important than actually buying luxurious things. And about japan, they have a really closed society but even when economic boom overpowered them, they don't forget to show humbleness outside of the country.

I feel sorry for the children who have such horrible parents who are materialistic and lack empathy. It only hurts their own children who grow up to become just like them. There is a story of a little girl who got teased at school because her quilted jacket was made with many different scraps of fabric but she never caved in shame. Rather she held her head up high and told all the other children that her coat was the best coat ever because her mom made it for her. This little girls love and respect for her mom is far more valuable than all of the other children combined. This little girl’s character and love is priceless, something the others cannot buy. Anything that can be purchased with money is actually not that valuable, it is the things that money can’t buy that is truly valuable.

Kids get influenced by their parents, if a kid is indulging in these excessive comparative mindset then its because they see their parents regularly bragging about their income, trips, cars, apartment etc Thats where they pick it up from. These kind of parents will not see a problem in kids taking this comparison to school

I taught at a public school in a rich area of Korea. When there was an open event for parents, I saw more designer wear than I've ever seen before in my life. All the mothers would compete with their handbags to show off their success and status. While I loved my time teaching there, I would never consider raising a child in Korea due to its ultra competitive and status oriented culture. It makes the northeast of the USA (probably the most driven and competitive region here) look like child's play by comparison.
