Hey guys! Welcome back to another Buwan ng Wika special video! I hope you're not tired of it! 😉
For today's video, I played a mini-guessing game with the P-POP group ‪@ALAMAT‬ ! I tried guessing the different Philippine languages each member speak! 🇵🇭
The Philippines indeed is a country with diversity in language! 😍 Thank you to ALAMAT for making this show! 🙏

To some of the commenters, those are regional Languages. Dialects are variations of a language. Bicolano is a language- Bicol Naga, Bicol Catanduanes are dialects--- they are all Bicolano but there's a slight difference in some words, pronunciations, etc for example: Mabakal, Mabakar, Bak'al all means "to buy"
@davetabuyan2172
@davetabuyan2172 9 ай бұрын
But I understood why most filipino called them dialects and not language because of an accepted reason. By the way, even TAGALOG can be called dialect for this reason. When we differentiate language and dialects, the very common thing we come up is that a language has its own unique language feature different from other languages. While dialect is the variation of that certain language often times due to minor differences. So in other words, Language has a larger scale while dialect is the smaller one. Therefore, why we tend to call them dialects because most of these 180 unique languages are part of a bigger language group which is called AUSTRONESIAN LANGUAGE. This means Tagalog, Bisaya, kapampangan, Waray, Hiligaynon etc are dialects of Austronesian language; together with Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Lao, etc. They can be called dialects when we described them as variations of Austronesian language. Same goes through to Cebuano, Hiligaynon, aklanon, waray are dialects of BISAYA or Visayan Language. In addition, that's the only time we can call them dialects. But if we compare it to the same degrees of languages like tagalog to cebuano, then both are unique language of their own. But both of them are dialects of Austronesian language.
@nhojleahcim47
@nhojleahcim47 Ай бұрын
@@davetabuyan2172 What you are saying is incorrect. Austronesian is a language family and not a single language. To explain this to you better let me give you an example, Tagalog is a language. Some dialects of Tagalog are Southern Tagalog, Mindoro Tagalog and Central Luzon Tagalog. They are mutually intelligible, so speakers from these regions can understand each other but may use different words or terms or speak in a different accent. To call something a dialect when it's a language is a way of putting down the speakers of said language. We must be more sensitive lalo na ngayon sa online platforms grabe mag asaran ang mga Tagalog at Bisaya e pare pareho naman tayong Filipino.

Pinoys should really stan Alamat and watch Educational videos like this. Many are still not aware that Ilocano, Bisaya, etc. are languages. The sad thing is, many would still insist that those are dialects even if they're being educated. Hope more teachers promote Alamat to students because they flex our culture and Philippine languages. Alamat can connect more to Gen Z in this kind of conversation just by using their music.

Funny part is if any Tagalog goes to a Bisaya speaking place and some still think it’s a dialect. Hon you would understand them completely if Bisaya is a dialect. You won’t even need Tagalog subtitles if it’s a dialect 😂

Love this kind of content, ganda marinig mga iba't Ibang language, as a Bisaya(Cebuano) myself, these diff. Regional languages are very familiar, having a Waray grandma, and a Hiligaynon grandpa, and having both bisaya parents is something to be proud of I may be can't speak waray and Hiligaynon but it runs through my blood, Ph is very diverse there's so much to serve here. At super proud talaga ako sa Alamat they're the only PPOP group that are multilingual, Multi-Cultural, Multi-ethnic and Multi-talented, and they are also very nice and humble boys.

Sa mga nag tatalo at nalilito ganito pagkakaiba ng languages at dialects. LANGUAGES: Pwedeng koleksyon ng mga lengwahe sa isang bansa (kagaya sa atin tawag natin ay FILIPINO) O sinasalita ng buong/majority sa isang bansa. If ang mga mamamayan ng isang bansa nagsasalita lamang ng ENGLISH ang kanilang pangunahin at kinagisnang lengwahe ay ENGLISH. Example of Languages: Filipino, English, Hangul (Korea), Nihongo (Japan), Mandarin (China), and so on. DIALECTS: Sinasalita lamang sa iisang/iilang lugar. Example: Tagalog-Zambales (in this video) if only he speak Sambal language then we could hear the regional language but sadly he didn't so YES the only dialect in this video is Tagalog-Zambales, Kansai dialect (Japan), Beijing dialect (China), Jeju dialect (Korea). If may mag tatanong ano yung Tina, Bolinao, Botolan sa Sambal language those are dialects as well. Iba pang halimbawa ng dialect/diyalekto ay ang ENGLISH language kasi maraming bansa ang nagsasalita ng ganitong lengwahe kagaya ng English (USA), English (Canada), English (UK), English (Filipino), English (Australia), atbp. If wala pa din, standardized is HELLO while HOWDY is the dialect. Anyway, i enjoyed this so much Jessica and team thank you for featuring them! not a fan but i know them since then and it's really cool to know that we have this kind of boy group. ❤❤

Jessica already a made a video (ep. 1of this series) of more thorough explanation on difference between dialect and language. Even interviewed a language expert. You can check it out. Our official languages may be just Filipino and English but we have hundreds of other languages that some say it's just a dialect but it's not.
@saturn2fire
@saturn2fire 9 ай бұрын
Mali. This has already been debunked by Linguistic experts and anthropologists. Pinagsasabi mo na ang dialect ay sinasalita lamang sa iisang lugar? So you mean to say Castillan is a dialect because it's only spoken by 1 area in Spain? Or Cantonese is a dialect of Chinese? The true definition is based on how it can be understood or perceived. Language defines words that are not understood or perceived by 1 group of people to another, while dialect is a variation of a language that can still be perceived by both. Gamitin natin example mo. "Hello" is an english LANGUAGE for greetings. You tell this to a non-english speaker, it becomes non-perceivable. If you say "Howdy" to another group of english speakers, they would still understand it as a greeting because "Howdy" is a variation of the english word "Hello". "Cantonese" is a chinese LANGUAGE because not all chinese will be able to understand/comprehend/perceive it. Same thing with regional FILIPINO LANGUAGES. Try mong pag-usapin ang non-tagalog speaker sa isang tagalog speaker, palagay mo magkakaintindihan sila?

Good evening po! May test po tayo to check kung ang dalawang lenguwahe ba ay two different languages or two different dialects (of a language). Ito po ay ang mutual intelligibility. Kapag hindi nagkakaintindihan (mutually un-intelligible), magkaibang languages yun ex. ang nagsasalita ng tagalog at nagsasalita ng bikolano ay hindi magkakaintindihan, so they speak different languages. Kapag nagkakaintdihan ang dalawa (mutuallly intelligible), then they are speaking different dialects of a language ex. Ang tagalog ng Bulacan vs. tagalog ng Batangas. may pagkakaiba pero kaya pa rin nilang magkaintindihan. Salamat po!

Hiiiii just a fun fact? I'm from the Cordilleras and I can say that the place my mom came from, which is Banaue, Ifugao is not the only place where there are rice terraces. They do speak Ilocano but the main language there is Ifugao. So the place where one of Taneo's parents (Kalinga if I'm not mistaken) also have rice terraces and they also speak Ilocano but a different variation from ours. Ilocano has spread wide from Region 1 to the Cordilleras that it has wide range of dialects where some words are unique to each province or area.

For the information of everyone, they are actually "languages". Ang Bisaya, Kapampangan, Ilocano, Waray-waray, Bicolano (at iba pa) ay hindi mga dayalekto, kundi mga wika/lengguwahe din kagaya ng Tagalog. For example: Kapag nag-usap sina A (Bicolano) at B (Ilocano) gamit ang sarili nilang salita, magkakaintindihan ba sila? May unting pagkakaiba sa accent at bigkas ng iilang salita (gyud VS jud; kahibalo VS kaybawo) pero magkakaintindihan pa rin sila pag nag-usap-usap coz they use dialects of the same language. Ilocano is the closest Philippine language to Malay in terms of vocabulary. Probably because Ilocos was a major stopover in the pre-colonial Srivijayan/Majapahit Southeast Asian trade routes to China. That said Ilocano is grammatically far more complex than Malay, since it is still a Philippine language. Despite the large number of shared words, Ilocano is not actually closely-related to the Malay language

Because both Ilocano and Bahasa Indonesia are dialects of Austronesian language. They both originated and part of a larger language group, the austronsian language. However, though they are dialects of a larger language group, they are languages of their own. The difference between language and dialect are often time filled with controversy. But no. They don't mean digredation nor belittling. Language is anything you use to express either by words, by letter or even by your body. Hence there is called BODY LANGUAGE. We don't call it body dialect. Animals have their own sounds and way of communications and we call them as their language not dialects. A dialects, though usually use in modern day as a way to described those variation of a bigger language, but the main usage of this term is simply "describe a smaller scale language" because even that smaller scale language is a language by itself. Remember, a simple facial expression is called a language how much more a language often times called dialects which is used in a big region. Just like Boholano & Davaeño are dialects of Cebuano but they are language by themselves.. we will only use dialect if we compare it to its mother language. Just like tagalog, cebuano, ilokano, hiligaynon etc are dialects of Austronesian language together with Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Lao etc.

Aw I hope they sang a verse of the current song they’re promoting or just any song para kumpleto yong guesting pero overall masaya naman. And I think yong different languages sa kanta nila brings different colors sa tunog ng kanta nila, sa layers, tonality ganun. Fan ako ng SB19 & I don’t follow (yet) that much yong vlogs, etc. ng Alamat but I love their songs! More power!

Same but I switched over from Alamat, to following SB19, and loving them both. Alamat may be a younger group than SB, but their cultural diversity and historical richness always sings true, and now I'm getting to know other girl/boy groups in PPop thanks to both of them!
