Join Marie as she explores vegan street food options in the popular Korean shopping district, Myeong-dong! Because the concept of veganism is not common in Korea, it isn't a given that there will always be a vegan option. But luckily, there are a lot of traditional Korean street foods that are naturally vegan and some other foods can be altered to be suitable.

We tried to be as thorough as possible in our explanations but in the end, it is up to you to decide what is appropriate for you. I think the point made about most Korean street foods seeming a bit unhealthy is true. From the MAAAANY tours I've seen, most use lots of cheeses, meats, oils, sugars, and starches (all delicious, don't get me wrong!) I am glad though to see there are still options for vegans and vegetarians that look JUST as good! I need to try that strawberry/red bean/mochi concoction now! 😍😍😜

street foods anywhere in the world is usually not healthy but korean food is actually healthier thats how their obesity rates are super low gimbap,tteobokki ,gimingbap are super healthy street foods as well even the ppumkin soup with red beans that she bought in this vid is healthy

Mochi is Japanese word, Korean word is Chapsal-Ttoek. Most rice cakes are made from sweet rice and Koreans called sweet rice "Chap-sal"

The thing about "faux-fur" not really being faux is only something that I discovered recently. I've always been faithful that furs that I buy are fake, given that they are labeled "faux", but if it's from China or somewhere in Asia, it is most likely to be angora fur. I tend to give it a feel first, if it feels soft and silky, it's real.

I really would like to visit South Korea and try the vegan food...I didn't like the fur stuff...It seems so cheap as you mention, this shouldn't be :( I hope one day things will change for animals. im so happy to see the pair of u back in action.... i look forward to more videos in the future. one thing i would like to ask though is that im coming back to Korea in april-may this year with my parents... my dad is seriously allergic to Horseradish/wasabi... now in korea there are so many herbs and such, is there anything i can say to check if simething is related to the horseradish family or if food we are about to eat will contain horseradish?

wow theese foods looks so healthy! you wouldn't expect that is East Asia, I only ate at the vegan vegatarian restraunrants in Seoul, going there again and going to save some more bucks with this street food thanks to this video should of watched it before I went, but will save this in playlist so I can find this, especially in winter when its like -25!

Thanks again for this video. I just have a small comment, one of my friends living in Japan said to me that mostly pink mochi pastes are made with the additive E120 (a red pigment produced with cochineal) in order to have this pink color. So, maybe it's the same in Korea.

Glad you enjoyed the video. ^^ There are vegan options, but you need to be smart about where and what you're buying. Tteokbokki isn't vegan because 99% of the time, the vendor will put anchovy broth or some other broth involving animal byproduct in it to the spicy sauce. Fish cakes and hard boiled eggs are common solid food items found in the tteokbokki sauce as well. So please be cautious if you are vegan but want to eat tteokbokki street food in Korea.

actually most Korean traditionall pancakes have eggs :( and normal Gimbab(the seaweed riceroll) have eggs and ham as well. So you need to ask

Just do a Google search for vegan food in Seoul. You'll find videos from other vlogger friends of mine, as well as all the new restaurants and cafes that are vegan-friendly and have popped up in the last year. The options now are much better than just 1 year ago!

When the mungbean pancake is being grilled i noticed they used oil. I wonder what kind of oil do koreans use? Is it Vegetable oil? Because in Japan they often use lard (pork fat oil?) to fry, sautee, grill and for seasoning so it is not vegan..

When I was in Korea in November, I saw a ton of the nut and corn vendors (mostly in Busan) but was too paranoid about it being not vegan to try it. For next time, now I know. Overall, I cooked a lot while I was there because Happy Cow let me down a lot with the wrong addresses and also since Google maps doesn't work that well out there. Gotta prepare better for next time.

almond breeze is vegan, the vitamin a palmitate is of the synthesized form, rather than animal derived form.

It can be challenging to be a vegan in Korea, but more and more vegan products and companies are sprouting up every month. Being a vegetarian is fairly easy, though. Thanks for watching!

Hi PK. This is Cory, I'm not vegan, but Marie is, which is why she hosted this video. Veganism has been growing a lot in Korea in the last 2 years, there are now so many vegan-friendly cafes and restaurants in Seoul compared to just 1 year ago. There's also the annual Seoul Vegan Festival, you can see a video of it on my channel if you look back far enough. I don't live in Korea anymore, but Marie is still there hosting plant-based events for those looking to be vegan in Korea. You can see her videos about that on her channel at: kzfaq.info

I did a vegan diet in Jeju in 2008 for 6 months it was easy peasy :) try going to Buddhist temple restaurants - they're vegan. they have tons of different mushrooms and seaweed species to try cooking :)
