Some Korg Kronos Sounds and Seeings...

I bought my Kronos 2 a few years ago, and I'm still utterly amazed at what this baby can do. More so, Korg has a huge professional library (sound sets) that you can buy to add more fantastic sounds, probably the biggest in the world of samplers, that will put you in synth heaven. I just bought a ton of new sounds, and I feel like I just bought this brand new $10,000 synth, it's kept me up all night! Wow! I'm working hard on using the Kronos sequencer, it's actually very easy to use once you get the hang of it, and it's one massive powerhouse of a sequencer. In fact, did you know the Kronos actually has 5 sequencers, a fully dedicated one that I could almost say washes your dishes and does your laundry! (It does both real time, pattern record, loops, you name it, and has editing features so detailed it can turn the most simple song into a masterpiece). Most programs (except HD) have 2 internal sequencers, the "common step sequencer" and the "step sequencer", not to mention KARMA which is (in combination mode) like having 4 pattern (loop) sequencers, lastly the standard drum machine, which has fully stocked presets to cover about any type of song. Sound like a lot? I have barely touched the surface. I'll be doing tutorials on how to use the sequencer, I keep hearing complaints it's real complex, it comes very easy to me, so I'll show everyone what a powerhouse you have sitting in that workstation of yours. I don't like cliche's, but when they say Kronos is king, I have to fully agree, no other synth can touch it! :)

Totally agree with you.I've had my Kronos 2 for a couple of years.Nothing comes close to it when doing church orchestral music.I love sequencing with it as well.I'd be interested in checking out what you post since you've had your Kronos for quite a while.

That was 7 years ago, and the Kronos is still by far the world's best synth/workstation. I was looking at the newer Yamaha Montage, it certainly sounds great, but truth is the sequencer can't compare with the Kronos, and the library of 3rd party sounds are real limited on the Montage, so unless you some programming wiz kid, you'll be stuck with factory sounds, and you know how that goes. This is a good, but very outdated demo, the Kronos can do a zillion times better, I'll try to post some tutorials to show you what this monster of a synth can do, prepare to be amazed!!

The two devices cannot be compared. They complement each other. There are opportunities in which the Yamaha Montage excels. In particular - an 8-channel arpeggiator in scenes where you can select the desired arpeggio for each scene, rather than a modified picture from Karma Kronos. Also, if you want to do something truly jazz for yourself, then Kronos Korg is absolutely unsuitable for sounds or arpeggios or drum rhythms, but at Yamaha Montage you can recreate the jazz atmosphere. As for the sequencer - how many people today use the Korg sequencer without a computer with DAW? At the same time, Korg also has many advantages over Montage. So talking about which is better is completely pointless.

Both are complementary, Mostly, i prefer Kronos, but acoustic piano, i prefer Yamaha.

@TheMickeysticky I recently went to Guitar Center to have a listen to both the Kronos and Roland Jupiter 80 and I can tell you no matter what you think this does not sound as good as an Oasys hands down. The Jupiter 80 I heard sounds better than the Kronos no question. A Korg Oasys and a Roland Jupiter 80 is a great combination.

You mean all the ones you see that aren't the piano keys? Those are just sound adjustments and FX I believe (I'm still waiting for my kronos-x to reach the store) but a lot of the things come from the touch screen display.

@clipbrowser i dont own a Kronos but i`ve played on one. Its a great machine no doubt about that. But what you can do with software plugins these days goes even further for a fraction of the price. If i´m correct, the kronos got 30 gig of soundram. In these days a single plugin can be 30 gig and thats only 1. That doenst mean its all about the size.
@rcmusic35
@rcmusic35 13 жыл бұрын
@clipbrowser hello. kronos is an amazing piece of hardware. the weakiest point i think is the guitar sounds, i hope korg will adress this in future soundsets. and with the SSD, you can stream samples, they should come with amazing libraries. More, an update will available in october, you will be able to connect nanopad or any midi compliant device to the kronos. Finally, the plug in editor should be available in november...that's great news !!

Kronos is definitely a great peice of hardware, I'm not dissing it. But @oggfish is right vst can go much, much further, and sound way better most of the time. AND they're much cheaper. I'd rather have a laptop or a controlBLADE( both computer and midi controller in one)to produce my music.

@clipbrowser I would buy a Maudio master keyboard or an old A90, just try out alot of masterkeyboards in order to find out what plays best for you. Then buy a i7 laptop with 8 gig ram + an cheap audiocard (maudio fasttrackpro) and buy Omnishere for all sorts of good sounds and Kontakt4 with Alicia Keys piano library or Ivory2, Trust me you would be very happy!

You should probably learn some good piano technique before spending your house on a workstation monster like this. There are some nice keyboards for $100 and up that will do the job. It is actually easier to play with more keys. The white buttons are the natural notes, and the black keys are flats/sharps.

@BlouseFashion Fanboy(or girl) much? First of all I wasn't even being rude, I specifically said I wasn't dissing the kronos, now to adress your point. You can buy it(maybe not with karma and an ssd) for about $2000, base configuration, which still blows kronos out of the water. Second of all the kronos IS a computer probably running on the most basic version of linux in a midi controller. Third the kronos isn't future proof it will be replaced by another "big keyboard" eventually

From what I have heard on youtube (never played Kronos in person), it does sound pretty thin. I prefer OASYS sounds over Kronos. I heard that Kronos now has better capabilities than OASYS, but some guy told me that he uses Kronos for playing and OASYS for processing the sound due to its crystal clear circuitry. I never got that far yet. I still believe that workstations have a long way before one can really substitute other instruments for real. It's close but now that far yet.
