The animated version of this is what got me into Vtubers this winter and until now it has been great Concerning korone's question: the universe basically expands by ripping the rice grain but that is too simplified. basically there are four fundamental forces: gravity which makes masses warp space time, electromagnetism which is responsible for the interaction of charged objects and two other forces which bind atomic nuclei and their components. right now the speed of the expansion of the universe is enough to overcome gravity on large scales. simply: galaxies drift apart if they`re far away from each other but galaxies themselves and neighbouring galaxies exert enough gravitational force to not drift from each other. but the expansion is accelerating which means somewhere in the future even neighbouring galaxies will drift away, after some more acceleration the stars in a galaxy will be drift away from each other because the expansion of the universe will be large enough to overcome gravity on small scales too. a few years or seconds after that the components of bodies like stars or planets will be ripped apart since they are held together by gravity. not even a second after that the universe expands fast enough to overcome the other forces. thus ripping apart molecules, atoms and maybe even protons and neutrons. all that will remain are photons redshifted beyond recognition travelling through a universe in which space and scale won't have definitions anymore. please correct me if i'm wrong, i didn't major in astronomy

I think the analogy here is just generally bad because describing the universe as being inside a shampoo bottle implies the the universe has a definite boundry which I dont believe to be the case The idea of it expanding like a balloon sort of solves this by showing how the apparent edge of the universe is expanding while the idea of breaking through the bottle or grain of rice implies that it has a hard and fast boundry that it is actively pushing through Neither of these two really nail it quite right from my understanding based on youtube videos science shows and late night thinkings but I will say the balloon seems more accurate
