The redevelopment of the PKP railway station in Korsze is part of a larger project to modernize the Ełk-Korsze railway line, which includes electrification of the tracks. This project, valued at approximately 649 million PLN and co-financed by the European Union, aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of the rail network in the region.
The project involves significant infrastructure upgrades across multiple stations and stops along the line, including Sterławki Wielkie, Kętrzyn, Tołkiny, and Korsze, as well as various smaller stops. Specific improvements at Korsze include the establishment of a local train control center and the modernization of the station to improve passenger comfort with new platforms, better lighting, and enhanced accessibility features.
Once completed, the upgrades will allow passenger trains to travel at speeds up to 160 km/h and freight trains at 120 km/h, effectively reducing travel time between Olsztyn and Ełk by about 50 minutes. The entire project is expected to conclude by the second quarter of 2026.
