Thanks for the great video, Sara! I am atheist but I intentionally buy a lot of kosher products because they tend to contain far fewer ingredients and the ingredients being used are cleaner and safer. The idea that a company is using fake kosher marks is horrible. If I notice that in a future shopping trip, I will be going all "Karen" with the store manager and will do my best to get that product discontinued!

To lable anything with pork in it as kosher is truly shameful, as it preys on ignorance of that one specific law of kosher food. It's also kind of funny as most people who are not Jewish or Muslim know this is a strict taboo for both groups.

I can't figure out why they would even do that. I have never met a person who keeps kosher but doesn't know pork isn't kosher. So who are they trying to trick with that? Either you keep kosher, in which case you know that the pork can't be kosher, or you don't keep kosher, in which case you won't care if it's kosher or not. You know what I mean?

I might be wrong but the first thing that comes to mind are all the "fake" or "mock" products available today. Take for example vegan meatballs or the like. Someone who might not be paying attention or perhaps a recent convert might see something such as a pork product with a kosher-label and think "maybe this is a mock-product?". I can especially see how a recent convert who's still "learning the ropes" might fall prey to these types of tactics. The reality, unfortunately, is that this isn't exclusive to kosher and non-kosher products either. We are all being tricked to one extent or the other by similar tactics (even those of us without special dietary rules). Many of us have no idea what we're actually putting in our bodies, we just assume and trust (and hope?) that we're not being lied to - and these greedy corporations are more than happy to take advantage of that trust.

Not Jewish or Kosher, and it all seems really complicated at first, but when my daughter was small and my husband was healing from some health issues, we had a list of things we avoided - soy, artificial dyes, refined sugar, corn syrup, added weird meat products (carageean yay!), local/grassfed and more - and it became a habit to read sources/labels/etc, you get into a routine pretty quickly and it becomes double checking to make sure products/companies haven't changed. The biggest issues was the meat, because we only ate local beef that hadn't been on a feed lot and local chicken that had been raised on an actual farm. I really hope to go back to shopping this way soon, but inflation is kicking our bums. (Pork in candy is just gross, lol)

I didn't know that there were so many different kosher symbols and so many problematic products. So there's still a lot of responsibility asked from the client. As a muslim it's definitely less complicated for me (halal is kind of "kosher light" I'd say since we can mix meat and dairy) but still we need to check every product as there's often false certifications or they use certain types of alcohol in bread, cake, candy,... as preservatives which is not permissible. I live in Switzerland near a jewish neighborhood - they're very religious and take quality very seriously- and I use to buy my products there because as long as they're alcohol free I'm good to go 😊

Orthodox Jewish women would tell her they didn't have a choice unless they bought or ate mostly fresh food. She said you should try to rally to have them healthier. That said she also wrote manufacturers of non kosher foods too. It seemed a lot of the kids food had hydrogenated oils in them.

Her ancestry only by two generations was Jewish. She passed away many years ago, but I would love to ask her the origin of not eating milk with fish. I loved when we had a fish dinner which was every Friday due to my past Catholic back ground. . I disliked milk and would be allowed to have water or a soda with our meal. Soda was a real treat since mom was very careful to make sure we ate and drank only good things and sugar items were a once a week treat. Also, thank you for the heads up on real kosher certification. Gosh, I never knew about the gelatin being made from pork.

Dear Frum It Up Friends, I am having a procedure and biopsy on Thursday and I am a bit scared. I know G-d has me and I pray for peace and acceptance of HIs will. I would be grateful for any prayers from this lovely community. I really enjoyed this video. I was amazed that someone would think to put a Kosher label on pork. Dear Firebird: For time immemorial, whenever the Jewish people found themselves in difficult situations, whether individually or communally, they would open up the Book of Psalms and use King David’s ageless poetic praises and supplications to beseech G-d for mercy. The Midrash tells us that when King David compiled the Psalms, he had in mind himself, as well as every person of every generation and every circumstance. No matter who you are and what the situation, the words of the Psalms speak the words of your heart and are heard On High. Source: Chabad

I love to learn :) When I was a kid, my mom once grew broccoli. When she went to boil it, all these neon green worms came crawling out. She was so disgusted we never ate broccoli again (which was no hardship for me, because I hate broccoli). I started paying attention to the symbols when I go grocery shopping and have found that most of my diet is actually kosher, because I have IBS and I have to follow a very strict diet to control it. Here in the USA, 'natural flavor' is usually code for 'high fructose corn syrup', because food manufacturers know people don't want it in their food, but high fructose corn syrup is cheaper than actual sugar. It goes by a number of names, and a product can actually legally advertise itself as saying "no high fructose corn syrup" while still actually containing the ingredient -- they just list it under another name.

I love to learn! I have followed the clean and unclean meat rules in the bible for quite a number of years now and about 4 years ago I started to buy kosher meat from the butcher as I was convicted of having the blood and the fat. I have since gone plant based so rarely eat meat now. If I do it will be a piece of fish when I am eating out on a very rare occasion. There is so much we don't think about how food may be prepared and may come in contact with unclean things. It is so interesting to learn about Jewish culture as I am Seventh Day Adventist and keep the Sabbath as well and as I said we follow the clean and unclean meat guidelines. Thank you for sharing your faith and life with us!

I love to learn! I have made it a practice for the last 50 years to learn at least one new thing a day and with your help I learned today about fake kosher symbols. What a bummer! As a T2 diabetic I already have to scrutinize labels for ingredients and now I find that something I thought I could rely on may be misleading as well. I think I will just crawl into a hole and drink water! Even shopping for things to eat is becoming a chore. Blessings on you and your family 🙏❤️

Dennis, I am also a T2 diabetic (diet controlled) and have you tried Stevia as a sweetener? Unlike things like sucrose, mannitol or sorbitol, saccharine, monkfruit and other sweeteners, Stevia does NOT raise the glycemic index! But again, read labels, as some stevia IS combined with other sweeteners to "boost" the sweetness!

I love to learn. As a person with a pork allergy I have learned to look for hechshers as a first clue that the food is probably safe for me. Since my husband is allergic to fish I then look at ingredients to see if it is safe for him (no kosher gelatin, only beef or vegan for us). My friends are always surprised to learn that candy or cereal with marshmallows or commercially prepared cornbread mix contains animal products. Haha I did not realize that companies counterfeit the hechshers so I will keep a closer eye. Thank you for the link to the website! You are such a blessing in my life. Thank you.

I love to learn! This was really interesting, as I’ve finally decided to begin my conversion process and am learning about kosher foods and how to recognize them, especially living in an area where the larger Jewish population and markets are a bit of a drive away. It’s sad that there are fake Kosher certifications, just people out trying to make an extra buck, but since your other video about how you inspect the veggies and cakes mixes and things like that I’ve tried to pay more attention to the symbols and I have found that many processed items I like (like my favorite popcorn snack!) are already kosher. There are a lot of people who would just see the kosher mark and assume it's okay, while you go the extra mile to make certain. Our family is Catholic and while most eat meat on Friday now, unless it's during Lent, we prefer to not eat meat on any Friday. The smoked salmon and cream cheese is very likely Ashkenazi-based, unless I'm wrong. I heard somewhere that it's their way of having something to eat for Shabbat so they don't have to go against their law of not cooking or doing other things that are considered "work" on Shabbat. Have I tried the smoked salmon and cream cheese combo? Oh, heck yes, and it's delightful, but then I must really have an inner feline, because I loooove most fish. Tuna can go flip-flop elsewhere, however. It's not my favorite texture or flavor. 😅

I had no idea that fake Kosher labels were a thing! I think because many groceries in the store are generally kosher, the symbols of kosher are ubiquitous on many products and thus manufacturers are just inclined to stamp a Circle K or whatnot on the label without considering whether the ingredients in the food line up with the laws of kosher. Sure does give a whole new meaning to the phrase "buyer beware".
