One of the best to come out of URL recently, Bigg K has been making waves in the battle scene for some time now. First gaining momentum in the Proving Grounds, the Virginia based emcee made a name for himself by knocking off opponent Half Past 7. Since then, K has moved on to challenge battlers of a higher caliber, such as 9DM, Real Deal, and Rosenberg Raw. Improving with each showing, Bigg K has gathered a following of battle fans due to his penchant for hitting opponents with bar after bar, not being one to pull any punches. Having paid his dues in the ring, Bigg K is ready to step up against a new tier of competition and command matches with bigger names than he had previously. Debuting in King of the Dot, the East Coast representative takes on legendary Fresh Coast veteran Illmaculate in what was one of the best battles from BOTB6.
A name as synonymous with West Coast battle rap as it can get, Portland based emcee Illmaculate built his reputation before most, and has remained one of the few to hold onto his status as a legend. Rising to fame during the WRC's with partner The Saurus, Illmac pulled his own weight in winning the competition back to back years in '06 and '07. Moving forward, Illmaculate become heavily involved with Grindtime, battling consistently and managing a division of his own. Able to scrap with any opponent, Illmac has been in the ring with some of the best to do it, including former partner The Saurus, Dizaster, Bender and Eurgh to name a few. With his signature style consisting of well crafted rounds chock full of punches and schemes, the Fresh Coast veteran decided to give an up and comer a shot in this classic battle with Bigg K from Battle of the Bay 6.

I agree, that was some dope rap. In battle rap, however, it doesn't really belong. You're supposed to diss your opponent and lines like that won't even leave a scratch. andytimes100 You're the dumb fuck. What he meant by real is most likely real battle rap. He never said that any of the shit people say they'll do to their opponent in this game they'll actually do. Bigg K spit real shit while Illmac try to impress people with his rap. It's a shame to me that the URL crowd doesn't respect Illmac's ability. He's truly one of the best to ever do it, but they just don't respect the intricacies of his writing. what a classic battle.. it's sad so many fans get caught up in declaring a "winner" when in most good battles it strictly comes down to style preference. this is two elite battlers giving you flawless performances, people who prefer illmac's style will lean towards him, those who relate more with K will think he won. there's no right answer, so instead of senselessly arguing just appreciate the world class talent you get to watch for free.

I am a non-english speaker (from Pakistan) and I have seen this battle more than 15 times. I haven't heard verses like Illmac's 3rd rounds' yet so far. It was pure genius and shows his lyrical ability. Though I am a Bigg K fan and his second round was lovely and hard. This battle is definitely a classic battle and I won't disrespect any of them by saying who won or not. Mad respect for both but Illmac's 3rd makes me insane and crazy. K's 2nd was hard as fuck too. This verse and his 3rd in one of his battles in Australia (forget which one) where he does a U.S. government scheme are proof of his progress. He is so slept on in terms of his writing ability. That being said I think this was a real close battle. Bigg K killed it. Two different, but very effective approaches. A perfect example of how there's room in battle rap, and hip hop as a whole for many many different approaches to writing and overall content. I hate seeing comments like "So and so is a weirdo." or "So and so only does gun bars."... Blah blah blah. We all have different backgrounds and influences and our upbringing or basis for creativity shouldn't be looked at as a limitation, but a blessing. It's through variety and a difference of perspectives that true progress and growth are achieved.

Thank you for finally being one of the first posts that I was able to read entirely without thinking "This guys an fn moron". It felt good to see someone comment while actually understanding/knowing something about battles or the scene lol. It's far too often that I skim through the comments and wish to punch kiddies in the face for the comments they make, sometimes I literally shake my head while reading them lol. Lol, not to mention the fact that you spoke like an adult or with maturity and did not use slang or the infamous "nigga" when they are both white lol. Again, my brain thanks you..

joslingc Thanks man, appreciate it. The funny thing to me about dismissive comments when it comes to battles is how ironic it all is. Battle rap, and all rap music for that matter, is basically poetry. It's art. It takes creativity and a sharp mind to write good bars, and a certain amount of charisma and stage presence to deliver them effectively,regardless of the topic. So when people either A; dismiss one rapper for being a nerd, wierdo, backpacker etc. or B; dismiss another rapper for being nothing but gun bars, drug references, aggression, etc. they are really missing the big picture. The difference between a "nerd" rapper and a "street" rapper is minimal. I understand people identifying with certain subject matter based on what they relate to, but to dismiss the talent or not even recognize the talent it takes to do this (even if you don't identify with it) is sad.

So for him to go up against Bigg K who was on the steady rise at the time, some expected illmac to stumble and not keep up. But with that legendary scheme he put together he showed the world that we were witnessing a new era of an even deadlier illmac

When this first came out, I didn't know Bigg K and my biased towards Illmac, had him winning. 10 years later, I think Bigg K won it with the first two, but Illmac's third is so damn creative. That verse is the most memorable moment from this battle, so I'm not mad at anyone who thinks Mac took it.

Bigg K 2-1. I don't think anyone in their right mind could give Bigg K that third round. Illmac clearly won that last rd imo. But Bigg K came to hurt something, and he did his fucking thing--however Illmac didn't come to get pushed around, he came to body something too. Both dudes showed up on their A+ games and delivered a fucking timeless classic. Imo this is KOTD's most classic battle. More classic than Diz vs DNA and Pat vs Hollohan in my honest unbiased opinion. I've watched all 3 battles and this one gives me the chills. The replay value on this battle is ridiculous. Smh. Salute to both emcees for puttin on the way they did that day. Shit was fuckin COLD!!!

I agree on everything except the Diz vs DNA. While the bars in that battle wasn't necessarily as dope as in this that battle was filled with heart and aggression. The escalation was what gave me the chills on that one. This battle was great though, Bigg K did his thing and Mac did his and they both did it top notch. I also agree that Illmac took the last round, that final verse was hard af.

Last thing I'ma comment is that it sucks how nowadays all the major battle rap leagues are going at eachother rather than working together and making even more money. Not saying they gotta all be cool and not competitive but it's dope to see arp on stage and it makes me think how dope it would be to see a kotd vs rbe or smack card where everyone comes together and all the top battle rappers go ahead to head. I feel they would make even more money if they occasionally worked together rather than always being in a competition and not fucking with eachother as leagues.
