This video showcases my favorite Koyudo brushes and recommendations of brushes to pick up ahead of these changes. While I am sad to see these go, I am happy to own a little part of Koyudo’s brush history.

Here is the body of an email provided by CDJapan of the upcoming changes:
“KOYUDO has upgraded its entire product line that some old products will be discontinued, some products will be upgraded, also some new products will appear. They are as follows
BP series
Discontinued except for BP013, 014, 016, 023, 025 and 026.
We are currently checking the number of discontinued items' remaining stock which can be supplied to us. Once these items are in stock, we will re-open the purchase button. These BP series products will be the last ones available and will not be restocked after that. We will notify on Instagram and by email when these products become available.
fu-pa series
Upgraded. As soon as we run out of stock, we will move to the new standard.
C, CP and H series
Discontinued as soon as stock is gone.
Heart series
Upgraded. As soon as we run out of stock, we will move to the new standard.”

In the video I say the first two kinokos with the red handles are Echizen Lacquer but the handles are actually Wajima Lacquerware, my apologies for the error and confusion.

I am quite confused about the different lacquer styles 😂. I've seen these brushes being described as Echizen elsewhere too. And I've also seen the grey squirrel one being labeled as "Echizen" while the saikoho as "Wajima".

@@kaorurl7039 Thank you for pointing this out. Now I am confused too and don't know at this point. In person both handles look the same to my undecerning eye but maybe it is the case that the squirrel and goat ones are different lacquer styles.

Thank you so much for this helpful video! So happy to have found another person who loves the little mushroom kabuki brushes! How cute is that bear face one? The Koyudo H Series is my favourite line of theirs. I use the macaroon brush and a Mickey Mouse one from Koyudo quite regularly. I just picked up another macaroon, as well as a flower one, and even a heart shaped one for kicks. I don't mind the slightly "rougher" hairs because I find they buff in power really well. I find that I rarely reach for my white Kinoko mushroom brush - I find the hairs too long / floppy to apply product - when I do it use, it's mainly to do a finishing sweep. What do you use yours for? I'm contemplating the H005 mushroom brush with gray squirrel & baby goat - do you own that one? Super bummed out about the discontinuation of some of these classics. I'm not keen on so many brands switching over to synthetics. The BP022 and BP036 are sold out, I really wanted them...

On the contrary, thank you for watching and commenting!! I am glad to hear you love them too, I am surprised they don't get more attention because they really are beautifully made. The kinokos are special to me because I also see them as little collectable "toys". Your description of the white mushroom is spot on, I also don't reach for it often because I prefer something with a handle but last sweep, finishing powder and even setting are my preferred uses.

I just looked up the H005 and realized it is in stock! Now I am researching it, I don't have it unfortunately. I am so very surprised by how many are being discontinued on such short notice but I hope its for Koyudos best interest and that they are doing well. I am going to keep a lookout in case there is a brief restock on CDJ. Thank you again and take good care!! 💗

Helpful video as always! I was just gonna ask (while watching) how the Koyudo BP 022 compares to Chikuhodo FO 02 and then you explained it the next minute! There are more things that I want now after this video, for example I was going to stick to FO 02 for that stamper shaped brush but upon hearing that BP 022 is the softest squirrel in that shape, I am tempted! I'm happy with the Hachiko kabuki brush I bought after watching your other video that I don't feel like I need to buy other kinokos and kabukis for a while. I seriously need to go on a no/low buy for a long while before I can finally pick up Chikuhodo FO and KZ brushes 😭.

And BP 022 is sold out everywhere 😭. I will wait and see if CDJapan restocks it as they did say they will do a restocking of whatever they can find.

I am smiling so much while reading this because I can totally relate with everything you are saying. I think this is something only us brush obsessed can relate too. The part about needing to go on a no/low buy is particularly true for me, I did so much damage in July picking up the Kazan brushes (I was not expecting to buy an entire series of brushes this year!) so that's why I couldn't participate in the Koyudo purchasing to pick up the BP brushes. I think you are spot on with the Hachiko brush, it serves the same use as the expensive Koyudo kinokos IMO. I can't believe how quickly the bp brushes are selling out. One day I was on the beautylish website and saw then in stock, even thought to myself Beautylish might have them in stock for a while and I could have time to pick some up later, the next day they were gone! Sad to see these go :(

@@FluffyFude I totally understand what you are saying! I'm looking forward to your review on the Homare series. Btw I reached out to Fude Japan for Kihitsu brushes, from what I heard, they are identical to Koyudo brushes, so I grabbed things that were sold out elsewhere.

Thank you for another great video. I have a question,,,,,I purchased the Sonia G sky face set and I do like them but the biggest face brush I’m finding it’s what I was hoping for. I like a very big wolf fluffy brunch for my finishing power and I found that one was just not big enough and a little to dense ... could you recommend one or two I might like? Thank you 🙏:)

Yes I can certainly recommend a few others and I really hope you are able to find a way to make the Master Face one work - it really is more dense than other brushes, maybe try using it for bronzer or to blend any harsh lines? I really hope you can find a way to incorporate it, it know how expensive the sets are. Anyways, it sounds like you are looking for a large, fluffy and less dense powder brush. I would recommend looking into the chikuhodo powder brushes from the Z series, FO series, Makie series or Homare Series ( I am planning to review this one next week, just haven't got around to it yet sigh). Unfortunately these brushes are up there in price. My top recommendations from these series that I mentioned above are the MK-2 (thats the one with flower design on the handle), the Z-1 if you want a round ferule, or the Homare Powder brush. The FO ones I enjoy but they are on the smaller side so if you want a big one FO-1 may not be good. I hope that helps some! Take good care!

Do you prefer Kolinsky shader brushes over goat hair shader brushes? I have the Koyudo bp036 and love how it performs mainly because of the shape (rounded & pointy). Does Kolinsky pick up eyeshadow better than goat hair? I’m trying to decide if it’s worth going out of my way to purchase at this point.

Hi! That's a great question. I love kolinsky shader brushes and find they work the best for certain types of applications /formulas. For instance, they are the best bristle type I have found for shimmer, metalic, shades, also creams and liquids because kolinsky will not absorb as much product. To answer your question, I do recommend owning 1 kolinsky shader brush in your collection to work with these formulas, the result is a bit more pigmented

Between fu pa 14 and sonia g master face brush, if you could only choose 1 which do you recommend more? Thanks

That is a tough choice but if I could only choose one I would go with the master face because it is more versatile (you can use it for setting, finishing, buffing, blending, bronzer) The FuPa 14 is not as strong for blending and buffing and I tend not to set with it b/c of the squirrel hair. My pleasure!

I think the white mushrooms hair really depends when you bought the brush. My black cherry handle one is the first one I bought in 2014 and that is amazingly soft, like a cloud. The Kokutan Ebony from 2015 is almost identical. The Wajima was from 2016 and its not as soft and the hair also doesn't look so baby fine and fluffy, still great though.

That makes sense, you are absolutely right. It will depend on when you bought it, mine was a later purchase so I can understand why I don't find it to be as soft. Pretty soon we are going to have to start labeling brushes with the year we bought them in like fine wine 😂

@@FluffyFude ... lol, I say this because I'm always a bit hesitant to recommend the same goat brushes I have today. Truth is, I don't know if my brush will live up to the same expectations for a more recently produced brush. I love all your kinokos. I always laugh when people ask me how I use them, I'm like, they're my toys and they get displayed and petted. 😂

@@minhanhaovu5588 Yes Fupa 14 is made with goat and squirrel and should only be used with powder products. It is great for setting and finishing powders. Always my pleasure!
