Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

Yeah, I know... Me again... BEcause is partially based on Jordan Peele's horror film "Us". Dreamcatcher went all together to watch it (pre-Covid, Summer 2019) and really liked it. So they gave us a "cruel short Summer tale", to give us the feeling of going out with friends at the movies, on a Summer night, and enjoying a nice horror movie. The song is really creepy. It has many hidden things and clues in the lyrics, in the choreography and the cinematography. One should solve them as a puzzle, to find out what's hidden behind the sweet "I love you"s". Actually, it's Doppelgangers (Shadows), at Deathtrap Hotel. Especially the lyrics, tell us a lot of things. Everything is hidden in plain sight... For example, did you notice? The clothes that are carried in the beginning at the lobby, all belong to the victims... One more thing: BE is based on the Hanja character for Sadness with the same sound, that's why is capitalized. BE + because = BEcause of sadness. The MO of the Shadows.

Also, you guys should watch their latest amazing live concert, with a live band and dancing. It's called MyMusicTaste CROSSROADS Part 2 Dystopia live. This is Day 2 of their concert. (Day 1, or Part 1 was Utopia live, again with a band, but they changed their songs to cooler, vocal versions. More classic rock, with bossa nova and jazz). Kinda Good girls vs. bad girls. Mind you, this was a paid online live concert back in July 2021 (not for reaction). Fan fact: After this concert, Sony Music signed them for international distribution and BEcause came out a month later.
