Houston-area home renovation clients claim they were left high and dry after paying tens of thousands of dollars to local company AM2 Construction. The work never got completed and some of the money got gambled away, charging documents reveal.

30k !!?? WTF !!?? I just hired a LICENSED Contractor to replace siding, replace windows, replace exterior doors, and do a metal roof. The Contractor wanted $4500 for the labor and I went around town with him buying the supplies. Materials and labor cost me under 10k and everything completed in 7 days. The Contractor, 1 helper, and sometimes me because I have construction background. The Contractor worked from 10am to 6pm nonstop everyday and they cleaned up all the trash afterwards. Always!! Always!! Get a LICENSED Contractor and check with the State Construction Licensing Department to make sure the Contractor is still licensed with the state. Many just get a license the first time and never renew it. They must maintain Licensing requirements.

Respectfully, no legitimate contractor works like this.. period 1) a good contractor can get materials far cheaper and more efficiently than a homeowner who doesn't do it everyday 2) tons of liability allowing a homeowner anywhere near the work.. both in injury and liability, inefficiency .. background or not 3) the price is scary cheap .. you preach legitimate contractor but they have legitimate expenses which you expect . That costs money ... that you don't want to pay ... oxymoron

I have to agree. The inflated costs for a contractor is wild. I just redid my shower for $2000 including materials when another contractor wanted to charge $5000 not including materials. You're better off going with someone you trust that won't rake you through the coals. The big, well established contractors will absolutely bleed you dry on costs and most of that money goes to overhead costs, not your project. Let those who are ignorant to the construction biz pay those overly inflated costs. They don't know any better.

Classic construction scam. The only thing that’s even worse is if you pay them half they do some of the work and then ask for the rest of the money and then disappear or say they need $2000 more to finish the work.

It all depends on the company. My company always gets 50% down and 50% on completion. I've never had any issues and all my clients are happy when we are done. One bad apple really does ruin it for the rest of us.

listen. there are a ton of us that are great contractors. i charge 50% up front. always have always will. difference is that i have never ever stiffed a homeowner. i also dont take the second half until the homeowner is smiling and satisfied with the job done.

People don’t know this place is hell, they call it “earth”. They have free will and can either use that free will to do what Jesus taught or they can stay trapped in hell…..stealing, murdering, lying, lusting after their cousins (we are all cousins). We all have 1 of 2 choices They choose the latter of the 2 cuz they were taught that Jesus only came here to die for their sins….not to sacrifice his time/days trying to warn them, show and teach them the only WAY out of hell.
