You can certainly can say that again. That's probably why the Minimoog is one of the most beautiful synths and of course the Prophet 5 which also has a lovely wooden chassis. They 're also definitly one of the best sounding synths there is.

Aw man I still love this stuff,we built unconventional technotronic sound generators and used a guitar pickup to play with a pearing knife and even used near dead batteries for the voltage drop "A tribute to a dead battery"it was called. There was no beat box or drum machines back then, so we played live electronic jazz that was progressive, all mistakes or broken connections left in the masters, became part of the art.Still thinking about reformatting and posting on KZfaq with some sort of vid

The jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter once pointed out that your nervous system runs on electricity and "there ain't nothing wrong with electronics." I think this was in a Miles Davis documentary. Not to fear, though. Acoustic instruments will always be with us too.

These men deserve the respect of every electronic music lover. I personally don't like their music, but I can see how what they done back in the 70s influenced generations of musicians to come. They built custom instruments to express themselves through music. True visionaries and fathers of electronic music. Where would we be today without them?

The Balanescu quartet made a really impressive Autobahn version for string quartet (and very respectful with the rhythm, harmonies and general arrangements). There are other artists who made classicla versions of other Kraftwerk songs. Even the Viena Choir and Orchestra made a symphonic TEE. Kraftwerk music sounds cool with classic intruments, without changing too many things of the mechanical spirit. Check it at KZfaq and enjoy it :)

You're right. They even made another percussion instrument, based on photoelectric cells. But it couldn't be controlled properly live, due to interferences with stage lights. You can read a funny anecdote about this in Wolfgang Flür's book 'I was a robot'.

They were the first really good "machine based" group down here in good old germany, today take a look at the billboardcharts or any charts (except oldies) and just try to find a song that has no computer generated part in it, summed up Ireally like this band and even got some original store bought tapes of their music

Minimalist music always polarizes people. Kraftwerk were serious innovators. They built much of the technology they used and kept things uncluttered and spartan. Modern. Frequently "classicist" musicians (including metal people) don't get it because it is about fresh ideas, not running scales up and down. I am a big fan of Kraftwerk and many early krautrock bands. The Mr Bean comment is hilarious! Very nice....ha!
