2017 - Kraig saying: "I'm a minimalist" and carrying a huge pack for two days (I really find myself in that btw :D ) 2019- Kraig not stressing that he's a minimalist but carrying basically a day pack for the entire TMB. Next to the beauty of your videos, thats just a nice little touch of personal evolution. Love it!

Well, being a minimalist isn't about bringing practically nothing with you, but rather taking only the things that bring value to your trip. Bringing 6 pairs of underwear is too many if there is a possibility of washing them. However, enjoying fresh coffee can bring you satisfaction that some other lightweight alternative can't. Just my perspective on minimalism :)

I love the Tchaikovsky 4th Symphony opening, suitably imposing and epic. I also like the camping kettle, no camping trip is complete without one. And I concur utterly with your sentiments, "never fuck up nature".

Hey guys! NY'er and avid ADK hiker here. In case you want to follow Kraig's trail, he probably parked his car at the ADK Loj and hiked to Marcy Dam, Avalanche Lake, then took the Hard Route up the SE side of the MacIntyre Ridge, opting not to do Iroquois or Whales Tail. On day 2 he takes the S trail around Lake Colden and joins the Mt Colden Trail, which loops around to Marcy Dam (only a few miles South from his car). These hikes are very doable for most people 1) In the right season 2) With the right gear. Do not underestimate them, I've seen hikers from CO, UT, and WA get stranded on the trails after dark because they underestimated their travel times; it gets real Blair Witch real fast in the ADK. But please, please, be respectful of the ADK. It's the largest State Park in the Country, incredibly remote considering you're in the NE, and very pristine. If you want to sleep in a bed there are lots of cabins at the Loj, and while Kraig slept between the trees, there are numerous first-come free lentos around Marcy Lake, Avalanche Lake, and Lake Colden. Last point of this shameless I

Although others have commented this already, those drone shots were illegal, as you can't fly within state wilderness zones. It wouldn't really be such a problem, except when 20,000 people see it they are more likely to do it themselves as well, thinking it is OK.
@FirstNameLastName-lz8ej5 жыл бұрын
@@kraigadams My apologies. I wasn't aware you were permitted to fly. Still it would be helpful if that was mentioned in the video. Also not dissing your work or anything, the cinematography is great. I just want people watching to know the rules.

Beautiful cinematography, but two things; drone use is illegal in the area you were in and also, invest in a paper map. Never rely on a map on your phone (you can use it as a back up, but pick up a map and compass for primary use). Again, really nice video, though. I got a Katadyn Microfilter for water and it's the best thing ever. Used it during the exact same trip you did a couple years back, same time of year. Except my friend and I did Colden the first day, and then the Mac range the second. Amazing area
