Excellent Review. I've been thinking about selling my RX100vii but it's so portable and the image quality and build (it's built like a tank) are so good, I can't let it go. While smart phones have killed off most point and shoots, this one is an exception as it's always been much more than a regular point and shoot.

Thanks for the comment! I love this camera, and it is a bummer that they are hard to sell closer to their retail value. I picked mine up used for $500... $700 off retail. I doubt I could resell it for more than $650... so I figure why not just hold on to it because there really isn't going to be a better point and shoot made for a long time.. maybe ever.

@@kraigpruett I just bought one (box/manual/accessories/extra batteries) for $850. "For parts" models are even going for $300-400 on eBay. Maybe it's just the fluctuations of the market or the beginning of a trend. Assuming this is the end of the true point-and-shoot cameras for Sony with the advent of the ZV-1vlogging line, I think prices will continue to rise. They're still making them for now, but there's plenty of demand at the sub-$1000 level.

I have no record limit with the RX. I use it as B cam to capture the whole scene. It's set and forget and after two hours I turn it off. I plug a Powerbank into the camera, so this thing would run over hours, also without any overheating issues. It is really still one of the best b cam you can get. Love it. And with reviews like yours you really see that creators all over the world who tested this camera, directly understand the capabilities of this little powerhouse. It sad to see, that this kind of camera is so super niche today. Think about a RX100 VIII with the neural engine, the new dynamic active IS etc etc.. If this will happen, I'm the first one to buy this thing. There is still so much potential in this camera line.

I'm not a pro, and shoot stills almost exclusively. I have a Nikon DSLR, and wanted a smaller, lighter "walking around" camera. Settled on a Sony RX-100 II several years ago, which I still use a lot, supplemented by an RX-100 VI a few years ago. The lens on the II is sharper, but it only zooms to 100mm. The VI is a bit less sharp, but zooms to 200mm. Last time I went out west for photography, I took the Nikon with me, but used the Sonys instead. They're easy to use and reliable, with excellent image quality. Yes, battery life should be better, so I have multiple batteries, but folks, this little wizard fits in my pants pocket and has produced several published photos and a pair of magazine covers! I take one or both Sonys with me everywhere. The VII looks like it's even better.

Excellent review. I have had a RX100VA since about 2018, which I use primarily for hiking and skiing for stills. I like its faster lens. However, in the mountains I often wished for a longer focal length lens, so at the beginning of 2023 for skiing I bought a RX100VII, but I kept the 100VA as a companion. The two cameras in a small bag work well. Interestingly, I have just returned with the family from visiting the Christmas markets in Vienna and I took the VA over the VII because of the lower light levels; it worked well. I have often said it would be great if the RX100 line had two paths; a faster 24-70 lens and a long telephoto lens - both with updates technology evolves.

I highly recommend the RX100-7, it has the same sensor as the bigger brother, RX10-4. The RX100 has outlasted similar cameras Panasonic ZS50 and Canon S100. The ZS50 had a 3 years warranty but the contractor in the US refused to honor it because they claimed I abused the camera, I just used it alot. And the S100 had a limited number of shutter clicks and broke twice, and Canon wanted half the price of a new camera to repair. For those of you who are buying the RX100, get the little plastic grip, it costs like $20, it helps to get a better grip. Surprised me that Sony just didn't include it in the price.

With the existence of the ZV1II Sony could make a new version of the RX100VII BUT focused on the zoom range, make it a 35 - 150/170 f2-2.8 even if it gets little bit bigger (Id make it Wider and offset components to the side to keep it less thick. So fun! I hope you have a great time. Some tips 1) get there early to get establishing shots, b roll of venue, etc. you should be able to walk around freely before the concert begins. Sometimes they even let you on the floor to walk around. 2) try to move around the venue during the show to get better angles, don’t feel like you HAVE to stay in your seat the entire time. It won’t make for that interesting of content if it’s from one spot. 3) Photos: Shoot in RAW. Shutter speed no less than 1/250 of a second. Those are the main things. 4) Video: shoot in 4K 30fps or 1080p 60fps. Make sure your shutter speed is correct or things will look weird… so shutter speed always double your frame rate for video. Also try to shoot in a color mode that’s a little bit lest contrasty! 5) just experiment and try things! Have fun!

@kraigpruett Жыл бұрын
Hey man. Thanks for the question! 2 ways this has actually fit into my production work flow for professional gigs: 1) a client needed a could of super slow my inserts, so I threw a ton of light at a scene and put the camera in 480fps and it worked out really well! A lot of times you’d have to rent a phantom camera for this kind of slow motion, but I just pulled out my RX100 and it got the job done. 2) I had to make a recap video about a conference i was attending with a coworker, and didn’t want to take a big setup. In the studio we used the FX3 to film the talking head portions, but for the conference we used the RX100 and ZV-1 and those point and shoots got us everything we needed. It’s certainly a case by case basis in which you’d reach for these for professional work, but I have done it. But for personal work, vlogging, etc. this camera is a great option most of the time. Especially for socials.

The G5X II is super nice, but with some kwirks. I own both, the RX100VII and the Canon. The Canon is super nice to hold and to operate, the lens is very versatile despite that it isn’t as sharp as the Sony, but here is a big problem with it and thats the Af. You can simply not trust it. It indicates that it’s focused, but it isn’t. Continues AF forget about it. In Video, this thing overheats after a few minutes. So this could have been an almost perfect camera but Canon crippled it to the max. But I like it nevertheless.

It's a photo camera first, that's been its primary purpose since the M1 was released in 2012. The better option for you is the ZV-1, besides the hot shoe it's better in low light and significantly cheaper.

Sure, and honestly the DJI Pocket 3 is way better, it might be the best vlogging camera available at any price@@marciamarcia7510

No, there is no need for the longest focal length ! The Sony RX100VI and VII have too small apertures ! Get either RX100II, RX100III, RX100IV, RX100V or RX100VA.
@kraigpruett8 ай бұрын
I respectfully disagree. There are a lot of people who would benefit from the longer focal length!

I love my rx100vii and use the focus length for recording motorsports its a very useful lens, I agree with@@kraigpruett
