In this video we take a closer look at the Kramer 1984 Reissue. After a full glimpse at the guitar I put it through the paces with an assortment of 80's riffs to test it out. This guitar has a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker, Floyd Rose 1000 Tremelo and an alder body. It is made to shred and rock hard. What do you think? Please comment below and subscribe!

Yeah, I agree; and am of the mind that this particular model probably BEST reflects what Eddie was using back in those times! I appreciate some of its other features--like the fact that the Floyd can be set up to "float" without raising the action excessively...and the "coil tap"(which shapes the tone without killing volume or adding noise). Obviously, Gibson had to be careful as to how they marketed it--so as not to "step on the EVH brand's toes"...

I had one of these back in 2014 or 2015, it was a really nice guitar. Back then they were made with maple bodies so the tone was very sharp and aggressive, borderline "one-trick pony." It sounded great no matter what you plugged into though! Surely put my 5153 combo through its paces, and got pretty close to the vintage brown sound we all obsess over and chase. Traded it in for a Wolfgang Standard when those first launched and got cash on top. Great video!

@@Ranch5150SkinWalker had been wanting one, first good guitar was an 86 black Baretta with a rosewood neck JB and German Floyd. The 84 even though made in Indonesia is a better guitar. Straight banana hockey versus titled back on the Baretta really makes the guitar. tuners on the 84 are a little cheaper. the Floyd 1000 is quite as good as the German version. The fine tuners are not as smooth but tuning stability is equal. FWIW

@JEUXolim

I got one of these about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it, love that the neck isn’t super flat skinny. The only negative is that the pickup is too high and close to the strings. I don’t mind that it’s mounted straight into the body but needed to be slightly lower
@Ranch5150SkinWalker

I really like this guitar a lot too. It's a great sounding and playing instrument. Do your strings get hung up on the sides of the pickup?
@JEUXolim
@JEUXolim Жыл бұрын
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker no they don’t for me thankfully, the alignment for the strings is perfect and it’s not so close to where it’s getting caught on the pickup - it’s just that when the pickup magnets are too close to the string it can slightly impact your tone and I experience that sometimes but not a huge issue just find ways of reducing my output if needed. After I watched your video I grabbed my 84 and pulled the knob as I never knew it was a push/pull haha!
@howardthrust
@howardthrust Жыл бұрын
Eddie's target--@ least back during his Kramer days, and before--was to have as much of the "tone shaping" as possible actually IN the guitar. The reason for the closer-to-strings-than-typical pickup mount was to achieve some "magnetic damping compression". I've found that with this AND some other design features of "The '84", that signature "Brown Sound" is easier to achieve...if you work with it! 🙂

I wanted to love this guitar. I picked one up 2nd hand and it was one of the custom paint series so it had the black/white vortex paint job, which was so cool looking. It came with the D-Tuna and a trem stopper to prevent any pull up (even though it was top-mounted Floyd). Mine had a really bad top/thick E string spacing issue where it was almost off the edge of the fretboard. I tried replacing the nut and also tried moving the neck in the pocket, but no good. Even took it to a tech. Then I kept breaking the high/thin E string due to the excessive bend at the nut to get to the tuning peg. I also missed not having a neck pickup, but would have dealt with it if the string issues could've been sorted out. So I was disappointed with this Made In China guitar that looked amazing and I wanted to really like. I love the JB. I ended up with a Schecter DJ Ashba signature (Made in Korea) that is just a better guitar all around. Love it! I'd prefer the JB over the EMG 81, but they are similar enough.

My first project guitar was a Kramer Pacer. I stripped it down to the bones, rigged on a 4-bolt Strat neck and put in a DiMarzio humbucker pickup. Basically just a mishmash of aspects/parts that were part of Eddie’s lineup at one time or another. A year or so later, I stopped by a music store and they had a Kramer 1984 in red on the wall. I took it down and gave it a shot, only to realize it felt just like the guitar I made. I was obviously pissed that the guitar I made already existed.

@Ranch5150SkinWalker
@Ranch5150SkinWalker Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Honestly, I really don't have a true opinion. Nice only played a couple old Kramers. Seems like they are a little lighter weight. Could be the metals used in the tuners and trem? Perhaps different woods. These newer models are machined to perfection. It's all machined. It came setup well too. Other than the tuners it's all high end. But honestly... it's got a locking nut so tuners are sort of insignificant in my opinion. 😎

I think Slash has always said that every time they play it, it still pumps him up it was and is still one of his favorites. He and Izzy split their parts pretty uniquely at least compared to the other two guitar stuff I’ve always been into. I’m a huge Izzy fan his parts and his tone on Appetite are underrated and awesome and the perfect complement to Slash’s more abrasive I’m your face tone and style. Do you have this setup for dive-only? If so, did you habe any trouble setting it up? The Barettas seem to have a slight amount of pullback which makes having a DTuna setup almost impossible unless you crank the trem springs, causing the trem to sit tilted back (not completely parallel) Any issues like that for this model, I wonder.

It wasn't vogue so the approach was to rip it apart rather than just say "hey it's not my thing but I know a lot of people like this stuff". The worlds of metal and alt/grunge could not exist together at that time. Funny to look back on in a way. 😎🥂

This guitar is made in my country but til this day I haven't seen it for sale on any store. The price at sweetwater is 900usd, which means it's gonna be priced at about 600ish usd here. Compared to the US or EU, guitars are way cheaper here I don't know why. About 100 to 300usd difference, some are even 1k usd less. For example an Ibanez J-custom is 3k usd in US, but here you can get it for 2k usd. Crazy, eh?

I just got mine and I don’t like how high my Floyd is and I like them sitting also but is anyone else’s neck just tall off the body? Because if put the Floyd down all the way then the strings are sitting on the neck. Can anybody help me with what to do

Mine is now sitting on the body, my action is nearly perfect. Sounds like you may need to adjust your saddles higher or adjust the t rod.

It would be nice if some company made a floyd rose/ humbucker guitar with a rounder fatter neck profile.

They should slant the pickup like the Kramer Baretta Special Oh and Marty snip those strings!

The slanted pickup looks cool, but it does something to your tone, I think I prefer the regular mounted 84 style for my needs. I have a special and I can’t get the bottom end as tight as I’d like it to be. I’ve tried three different pickups and it’s got a Duncan Distortion in it now, going into a boss SD1 into a dsl20, it’s a big cool fat sound that’s great for hard rock and stuff but in my opinion lacks the precision for thrash, so I think that bridge pickup angle makes a big difference in the tone and 84 with its pickup mounted traditional is less muddy ? I want to try a lower output pickup in my special, but I think whenever King Edward started playing high output PU all of his guitars had straight mounted pickups in them ? I know the whole pole spacing argument but I just don’t think it’s as critical as some would claim, I do think that the bridge pickups bass side being more towards the middle makes a fatter/muddier tone.

I honestly think the slanted pickup makes a difference! I can't explain why since I don't know Jack about that stuff but I can only speak from what I have played. Who knows. Maybe it's all mental. Haha. For the special, may try mounting classic 57 in there or burst Bucker 2. I bet that special is a ceramic overwound pickup. Or high overwound Alnico 2 or 3. I think gibson pickups get the best VH tone. Even better than the EVH Wolfgang pickups. Just my 2 cents. 😎🤟🏻

@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Great stuff. But I'm pretty shallow I just like the look of it slanted. But what do I know I'm happy with the stock KBS pickup, sounds good to me 🤘

I leave a little extra in my strings in case I break at the bridge. I guess I could wrap em around the poles. I'm just lazy. And cheap! 😂😂. At least I bend them with pliers so I don't draw blood from my singers arms anymore when he runs into me not paying attention on stage.

I've got one of the newer Kramers and while I like it I don't love it, it feels a little cheap plus my finger keeps falling off the edge of the fretboard on the treble side.

Hmm that's unfortunate man. Hate to hear it. I thankfully don't have that issue with this particular model. It's quite a solid guitar and no issues after I think 1.5-2 years I've owned it ?

So the only difference between this and the Baretta, is that the pickup is at an angle in the Baretta. Same Floyd Rose 1000 etc.
