lol Dereck spacing out on the moire pattern :-) Videos like this are incredibly helpful to me. As someone that is really just now, finally, getting his toes wet with the whole prog, kosmiche / krautrock, space rock genres, it's these types of videos that really help me to quickly acknowledge what the heavy hitters in their respective genres are. Thanks so much Dereck!

I was a teenager in the 70's, (66 now) & was fortunate to be able to dip heavily into the exploding prog multiverse of the time, INCLUDING much Kratrock. Faves include Kraan, Amon Duul II, Tangs, Klaus Schulze, Triumvirat, Nine Days Wonder, to name a few. (Does Nektar count as Krautrock?) I want to mention one particular obscure personal fave, Stefan Zauner's "Prism and Views," circa 1977. Stefan was a late career Amon Duul II keyboardist, and "Prism" was his solo album. OUTSTANDING & worth seeking out. Stefan left Amon Duul to join Deutsch pop band Muchener Freiheit, whose albums are also worthy, though definitely NOT prog. Thanks for giving these way "left of center" artists a moment in the spotlight.

Great to know I'm not alone in loving Krautrock. I was an avid collector in the 70's. I also loved the prog music coming out of Italy, France, Holland, and Hungary. Prog music was so obscure here in Melbourne in the 70's, that the $1 Bargain Bins at my favourite record stores were overflowing with the stuff. I would get cold sweats whenever I flipped through the records. I wanted to buy them all, but could only afford a few at a time. I'd rush back home to listen to them, and when I found a good one (which was almost always), the feeling was better than sex. Unfortunately, the digital age has killed off the record store bargain bins. I miss those days.

One more fun fact. I have no way of knowing whether this is related, but I was a huge fan of science fiction/fantasy back in the '70's, and at age 12, I connected with Jack Vance's 1950 Masterpiece, "The Dying Earth." In the opening story, "Mazirian the Magician" the titular protagonist Mazirian is getting ready to dispatch a cannibalistic deodand, whose final curse to Mazirian is "May Kraan hold your living brain in acid!" HA! No way to tell whether German prog combo Kraan nicked the name here, but it sure seems likely. I do wonder, though, how much of the gem-like prose & VERY dry humor of Vance would survive translation to German. "Dying Earth" is a personal GOAT, but Vance is not for everyone. The Kraan connection, though I think is relevant & worth sharing.

Hi Dereck, at first I'm touched for your compassion for the music, that I grew up wit!. At that time it was called "Underground" , mainly recognized in a certain alternative scene. I come from Unna, where the first Gig of Can and Kraftwerk happened at the same day in 1970 , a new step in music history. You know the first three Kraftwerk-Albums ? It was real Krautrock, but very original.I am surprised you even know "Between". I own the album " Hesse Between Music" , it's fantastic! Another Space Rock Monster album is Grobschnitt, "Solar Music live ", saw them live in Unna also, with 15 It blew my mind.. Other recommendations for space rock at that time Eberhard Schöner (with the Police, totally unknown at that time) and Conrad Schnitzler, ex-Tangerine Dream, album "con-struct", neo space classic. Thank you very much!

Its great music. I'm like that too, I once had a fortune into my record collection for pennies on the dollar compared to now. The things that have gone in and out of my hands from way back as the 70's and 80's that I would buy at garage sales amd thrift stores for 50 cents. Now they go for Rodeo Drive LA prices! I've learned my lesson: hang on to your records! Nice work on the collection.
