I can't believe the amount of ignorance that fills the comments in martial art videos. Some people complain about this stuff being "cheap" and "dishonorable" while others say it would never work in an undefined "real" fight. Understand that techniques like these are for violent urban situations where your only goal is to GET HOME SAFE. There is no "honor" or "manliness" in defending your life. It's about SURVIVAL. And all this video does, is say that IF you choose to use front kicks in that scenario, this is the proper way to do so. Notice the emphasis on looking around, eliminating threats and escaping the situation. For those who think this isn't effective, please explain how a swift kick to the balls with appropriate follow-up or a well-balanced, properly-executed push kick isn't effective for the goal I just described. btw Krav puts heavy emphasis on moving around (i.e. not being stationary) and expecting your opponents to do the same. Get educated on everything the system really teaches before making derpy comments about what you think it is and is not.

Note - no kicks above waist height for self defence purposes. Makes this a far more accessible technique to most. I've taught this and it works a treat, it's quick to learn and it works. Thanks KMT again!

High kicks also increases the risk of your enemy catching your foot...
@johnmeyer151310 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would never try a high kick against some in a real fight....
@Th3MAgg0t9 жыл бұрын
John Meyer High kicks are risky yes. I wouldn't just go in throwing them all over the place, but I know if I can land a spinning hook kick on the side of someone's head that they're going to sleep for a while. If something were to drag on, I might try to set it up.
@TheLordofComments9 жыл бұрын
Th3MAgg0t High kicks can be devastating when you're good at them... but still, they are more predictable than lower kicks. When you're going in with one or two lower kicks, followed up with some punches, then you could consider throwing in a high kick. But it's all about the circumstances: Is the floor slippy? Do i have the right clothing? Do I have the space to move? etc... The reason why krav maga doesn't teach the high kicking is: low kicking works always, even with low skill lvl, hard-hitting-high-kicking on the other side requires very high skill level. Especially people with low skill lvl tend to try high kicks cause they "think" they can do it if you teach it to them. This results in people slipping over the place, or landing high kicks which are more likely a little snap than a devastating blow. But you're right... WHEN you hit a good high kick, it's pretty much over.
@Th3MAgg0t9 жыл бұрын
TheLordofComments Yep, I agree with everything you said. The other thing is adrenaline. It can wreck your coordination. This is a major reason why KM focuses on trying to keep things simple. Like I said... if it were to drag on I "might" try to set it up. I'm definitely not saying I would. And yeah... set it up. You can't just throw it out there. Like you said, too obvious. The thing is that you can be just as devastating with a safer kick to the knees, groin etc... I'm aware of that. That's just another reason to keep them below the belt.

+Magi V True, but if i have a choice between accidentally killing an attacker or being killed, I'm going to live with the guilt. If you don't and your adversary is becoming uppity and threatening take a step back with one foot, don't worry about showing backbone, try to deescalate, and if that doesn't work, well... you've got one foot back and the other one advanced, so you can guess where I'm going.

To all KM prcticioners: Is there ANY kick to a head in KM? I only saw that low area kicks what are fast, powerful and easy to to (esp for beginners an elder people). And of course hard to block. And i see that in KM the knees were well used, same often as like punches.
@JorgeRamirez-dv5nn6 жыл бұрын
drh kleinert I don't think there are. I'm new to KM but it seems like there aren't. My instructor has taught me a few Muay Thai kicks though. Side spinning kicks can certainly reach the head, although you need tons of flexibility, which I don't have :p

never stand flat footed when you throw any kick lead leg or rear always come up on the tips of your foot when throwing ......more power more distance closed and most importantly your not in a wide stance if you do so allowing your self to be swept and always aim with the knee and always chamber the leg to get full whipping motion of the kick

Good principles and techniques but they don't always work the way shown. The pushing front kick can be caught easily if thrown high and if you cannot produce significant power with it you are not going to be able to "push" someone off with it. A sidekick is significantly better for pushing an opponent away and gaining distance. A front kick with the rear leg is better when aimed at the hip girdle or legs. Also a whip kick to the groin may not cause someone to bend over in pain often people will jump back to avoid the kick or crouch down into a guarded position and just bear the pain.
@jonathanerickson15435 жыл бұрын

Soon to be a martial artist but a free runner (parkour) here, if you're outnumbered you need speed, you have to be the fastest. You also need to try to get your opponents in a line like behind each other so you're not surrounded, it's easier if they're blocking each other. Saw it in a video hope it helps though.

Has anyone actually had any real-life opportunity in implementing these techniques? Would love to hear some real stories. Because what I have seen as a street fight, it's a bunch of males all tearing each other apart, hitting and kicking without looking where, how and why. Well, at least that's how it is where I come from.

KRAV MAGA WORKS!!! It's probably the most effective combat system. it can't be tested in a ring because it was created for street confrontations in order for people to know how to defend themselves in real dangerous situations! Luckly I've never been in a situation like this, but I know two people, first one: a friend of mine who is one of the most advanced student of our gym, defend his boss (female) from a guy who was trying to assault her getting out from work. Second, a girl from our class defend herself from a dude that attacked her while she was coming to train after getting out of school (which its a couple of blocks from our gym) she came to the gym running asking for help, we went to check out and the dude was still there on the ground, then we called the cops! KRAV MAGA WORKS!
@rohadtanyad89089 жыл бұрын
Luis Coley it works against completely unskilled untrained people. but anything works against unskilled untrained people. street attacks are hardly very dangerous situations most of the time. the attackers are unskilled and easy to put down. i have been in many many street fights, confrontations, attacks. but once in a while the attacker is a trained person, and with krav maga you are sol.
@zoolkhan9 жыл бұрын
rohadt Anyad in most cases, the attackers dont attack - unless they think the odds are stacked in their favor. telling people street fights are not dangerous, is.. well dangerous.. Maybe a veteran like you, with a lot of street-wit manages well in those situations, but most of humanity does not fall in that class - most of them have no experience beating the crap out of someone. Those people need to be trained in a safe environment, which is a real gym - and they want to be trained systematically, with techniques that rise their chances in self defense situations. You have to start somewhere. As someone, seen a gym from inside - both as student, as well as instructor - as someone also worked in security, and having had street situations.. i can only recommend those "normal" folks to visit a gym from inside and not a youtube place where the knowledge of a youtube-warrior cannot be coinfirmed. everybody shoudl bear in mind that a training sequence, is not a drill, and a drill is not sparring, and sparring is not competition, and competion is not a real fight. those are all different things. This is not a real fight recording - if you would record a real fight, everything would be too fast, techniques hard to distinguish and no one could learn from it.
@zoolkhan9 жыл бұрын
uskmanj let me correct you "in krav maga _I_ am fighting like an animal, as i am in high risk security" -- You have not the faintest idea how other people outside your gymsphere fight. You have also no idea how people training other martial arts fight in their gyms if youre honest. All you can know, is what you saw with your own eyes. There are boxers fighting "like animals" (what was the name of the guy biting someones ear off during a boxing match?) but that does not make them a winner on the street. What makes you a winner is yourself - your experience, if youre in security - you gain a lot of experience, that is what gives you an edge. Thats what keeps you calm the next time... and if you remain calm, you do the right thing. Self conficende building is therefore part of the game. but it should be founded on stuff that works in practise. In security/doorman situations - you have to avoid groundfighting (the only trick those MMA apes can do) because you are almost always dealing with more than a single attacker... and they kick your head when you go to ground. At least thats the presumtion you have to adopt in that real life street business. A security guy, prefers to stay mobile and move quickly. Hint to all the youtube wiseguys/trolls: Experience is not gathered on the internets - or by beeing too arrogant to look open minded at a different art/fighting style than what youre currently practising.

I'm not sure krav maga is all that anymore for the naysayer's I never said there no good in it just my opinion that the art is not up to par with other more fluid combat arts I.e. panatukan kajukenbo etc.
@JKDROB8 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Kennedy it is not about how fluid it looks, more about how well it works.
@lococavasa8 жыл бұрын
JKDROB I would agree and krav maga incorporates basic intrinsic applications. It's an adaptive system and I therefore wouldn't call it a martial art. Yes It's martial but It's also about money krav maga should be taken as a fast adapting combat system but It's not It take's many years to get to Instructor level. Many krav maga school's are a huge money business charges student's upwards 200 dollars's a mouth that's ridicules. I got caught in a system called shaolin kempo karate and was paying close to 200 a mouth huge mistake. Thing is I have also trained in arts like shotokan for 30 bucks a month and can get many of the same results as krav maga in less time. Karate has excellent kicks it teaches groin kicks, leg snaps, knee breaks many of the same basic things as krav maga but without all the hype and extra movement. Make it a reliable system something that can be mastered In a year are two and I'd reconsider tell then krav maga is just a bunch of hype without the same spirit and history of traditional MA's.
@nimulosmaltibos96627 жыл бұрын
Getting ripped off with fighting schools is a common problem - practically anyone can invent some martial art and teach it, write some bullshit about it being a family art handed down and charge people for some occult variation of common Karate, TKD, a bit of Wing-Chun mixed in and a few BJJ techniques for good measure, with a bit of luck and some talent for theatre it'll take a while until people figure out you're a phony. Similarly, many "trendy" self-defense systems (which is a more appropriate term than Martial Art when talking about KM, since it's not about artful movements but more about quick and effective self defense) or martial arts can be quite expensive, because there's a huge demand and a much smaller supply - that's basic market dynamics. Learning a few basic techniques to defend yourself in emergency situations shouldn't be expensive, but if one brand name becomes popular that's what happens.
@DeMarkieSade10 жыл бұрын
You can't fight anyway unless your mentality is focused on doing so! In other words, you have to be mad and fighting for a principle or for a reason that burns inside of you. And I will also add, people have different body types: Fighting a thin man that weighs 145 to 165 pounds is a whole different ballgame than fighting a man that weighs 250 and who is hard to maneuver using martial arts moves. I have seen and sparred with guys so heavy that a foot sweep is like trying to uproot an oak tree out of the ground. You had better stick to good ole conventional--what nature teaches and dictates that you do--fighting if you're going to survive. Blocking is not something new, neither is punching, neither is kicking. They have been practiced since man first walked the earth. I'll put my money on the guy fighting for a reason or a principle that he feels in his heart has been violated, who is coming at you with his eyes as red as embers and with both of his arms flexing and swinging like a train smoking out of hell itself, my money will go on that guy against the flashiest Kung Fu or Karate or Krav Maga man on earth. My sigung, my great grandmaster, told me some advise that I hold-fast to "Keep it practical" If it isn't practical, all it is then is something to either get you hurt or either render itself useless and futile in a fight.
@MrScar66510 жыл бұрын
Cutt the bullshit, sensei big mouth. You can have all the hearth and desire to winn but if the other guy had technique you are going to lose. You will rather put money on someone swinging his arms than someone who is trained.? Wow! That looks like a great way to eat a nasty counter punch. ***** I was in Krav Maga for one year, it is a very basic self defense program. The sparring is very limited and a lot of the knife defenses are gonna get you killed. Try the SPEAR SYSTEM and add it to MMA.
@nickbirch568310 жыл бұрын
I would agree that law enforcement actually fight more often and in closer circumstances. However, most LE programmes don't actually teach enough. Krav is actually very similar to SPEAR. I teach SPEAR and practise Krav and they cross over really well. I've also done a few other martial arts but found Krav to be the most effective and realistic. You have to remember that Krav is meant to be taught to everyone. MMA isn't and there are rules. SPEAR is excellent and the realisations that come from it are the same as from Krav. Also don't forget that LE are more bound by complaints, rules and others who judge our actions. Military aren't...
