🇪🇸 La Congregación de Mena, cuyo nombre oficial y completo es Pontifica y Real Congregación del Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte y Ánimas y Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Coronada (Mena), es una hermandad religiosa o cofradía con sede canónica en la Iglesia de Santo Domingo, en el barrio de El Perchel, en la ciudad de Málaga (España). Realiza su salida procesional durante la Semana Santa malagueña, en la tarde noche del Jueves Santo. El Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte es el patrón y protector de la Legión Española.
Se trata de dos Hermandades fusionadas, la de la Soledad, de gran pujanza y devoción en la Málaga del barroco, mientras que la del Cristo de la Buena Muerte data de 1862. Uniéndose ambas en 1915, conformando la actual Congregación. Desde 1928 su hermanamiento con el Cuerpo de la Legión le ha dotado de una personalidad muy acusada.
El Cristo es acompañado en la procesión por un gran número del cuerpo legionario.
La Legión Española, o también conocida popularmente como la Legión, es una fuerza militar de élite dirigida y creada en 1920 en Ceuta por José Millán Astray, encuadrada dentro de la Fuerza Terrestre del Ejército de Tierra Español.
La Legión o Tercio de Extranjeros, como se denominó en su origen, fue resultado del esfuerzo del entonces comandante de Infantería José Millán-Astray. El resultado desfavorable a las armas españolas en las guerras coloniales del norte de África creaba además disturbios en el país. Millán-Astray llegó a la conclusión de que España necesitaba un cuerpo de soldados profesionales, no de reemplazo, con una moral y espíritu de cuerpo que fueran equiparables a los de la Legión extranjera francesa. La Legión es la culminación de ese proyecto personal.
🇬🇧 The Congregation of Mena, whose official and full name is Pontifical and Royal Congregation of the Holy Christ of the Good Death and Souls and Our Lady of Crowned Solitude (Mena), is a religious brotherhood or confraternity with canonical headquarters in the Church of Santo Domingo, in the neighborhood of El Perchel, in the city of Málaga (Spain). It makes its processional exit during Holy Week in Málaga, in the evening of Holy Thursday. The Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte is the patron and protector of the Spanish Legion.
These are two fused Brotherhoods, that of Soledad, of great strength and devotion in Baroque Málaga, while that of Cristo de la Buena Muerte dates from 1862. Both joined in 1915, forming the current Congregation. Since 1928, its twinning with the Legion Corps has endowed it with a very marked personality.
The Christ is accompanied in the procession by a large number of the Spanish Legion.
The Spanish Legion, or also popularly known as the Legion, is an elite military force directed and created in 1920 in Ceuta by José Millán Astray, framed within the Land Force of the Spanish Army.
The Legion or Tercio de Extranjeros, as it was originally called, was the result of the efforts of the then Infantry Commander José Millán-Astray. The unfavorable outcome of the Spanish arms in the colonial wars in North Africa also created disturbances in the country. Millán-Astray came to the conclusion that Spain needed a corps of professional, not replacement, soldiers with morale and esprit de corps on a par with the French Foreign Legion. The Legion is the culmination of that personal project.
