In an interview shot in YogaVille, VA, Krishna Das talks about a dream he had of his guru, years before they'd ever met. This is part of a series of interviews conducted by Jason Scholder of Reel Change Films from Asheville, NC, comprising an ongoing, on-line spiritual documentary project entitled Walking the Path.

It's so incredibly sad that the allegations against Swami Satchidananda, Yogaville's founder and "guru" (aka Guru Dev) having abused at least 8-12 known women, his much younger female devotees in the 60's & 70's (perhaps later, too, not sure) have resurfaced for the at least 4th time, but Yogaville administration /"leadership" continues to do nothing. It's so disheartening when both supposed "spiritual leaders" both the so called "enlightened" "gurus" AND people in spiritual communities you think would be trustworthy, honorable, and at least TRYING (in observable ways) to "walk the talk" of the yogic principles turn out to be frauds and in the case of the current / long standing "old guard" "leadership" of swamis, Integral Yoga ministers and other pillar community members continue to gaslit and dishonor women and prop up their false guru and his abusive, manipulative behavior. "Guru" Dev himself adamantly denied all allegations publicly, while reportedly privately shaming and pressuring his victims to be quiet. He died in 2002. The denial and spiritual bypassing is STRONG in that community (I know, I've seen it, having visited there for extended periods over the past 15 years, which I will no longer do going forward). Yogaville has the opportunity to finally HEAL and do right by these victims, these women. So far, there's no earnest effort to do so. Time will tell. Some of the younger sangha members are trying to influence the administration, who's been hiding these secrets, wiping the internet clean of any 'whistel blowers', etc. for DECADES, to finally own up & make it as right as possible. We shall see. I hope honor, accountability, integrity and compassion ultimately win out here.

You are absolutely correct. Barring very very few ‘public’ yogis, most of these babas, gurus and Buddhist lamas are either fake or half-baked. Osho & so-called Maharshi Mahesh Yogi were 2 such thugs who fooled millions of Americans. Disgusting. Some reckon that except for Swami Vivekananda and Yogananda, no accomplished yogi has been in America for an extended period. Americans and urban Indians choose to forget that it’s next to impossible to meet a genuine accomplished Yogi like Neeb Karori Baba as one needs a low Karmic load to qualify. Mass market Gurus, Lamas & Babas are almost always nothing but shameless thugs.
