I was thinking of this today while watching someone play the new Miles Morales Spider-Man game. At one point, you're in the middle of a rally, and you come across a graffiti artist who you can compliment. If you do, she thanks you... in American Sign Language. And Miles just says "you're welcome" back in ASL, and he and his friend talk about him taking an ASL course at school, and they move on. The woman isn't defined by her deafness, and they don't even make a big deal of it. You then move on and can talk to someone Miles knows, who introduces you to her girlfriend -- again, there's no surprise, no big deal made, no mention of it other than "this is my girlfriend, she's helping us set up," and then into the character being herself. Representation is important, but it's also important to remember that representation doesn't have to signposted and pointed out as if it's something that's weird enough to react to. Depending on the scenario, some of the best representation is just treating your characters like individual humans, regardless of what group they might or might not be part of.

Ugh yes! I only know of two female Bi characters and I love both of them! Both shows handle it really well like “yeah I’m into women and men, get over it”

She once even had a golden retriever whose gender we didn't see so... Also yeah the Tahani thing could be Michael setting them up for the experiment

@@Chillwave6 Yes, it could've been Michael setting them up for the experiment, but it still tracks with Eleanor's fixation on Tahani, causing her to take a pause and say she might legit be into Tahani. Eleanor's always been clear on who she is. No matter what Michael's manipulation was, several things always stayed true. Her sense of self preservation. Her love for Chidi. Her devouring shrimp. And not least of all, her objectification of Tahani. So, possibly, Michael picked up on that and used it to make Tahani Eleanor's soulmate for that reboot knowing that Chidi was also going to be in the mix, which would torture Eleanor having to choose between the two. Michael even said that his torture was based on the concept that every lie has a kernel of truth. And that he may have created the scenarios, but Eleanor's reactions were authentically hers. OK, my novel is over. Take it sleazy!

It’s great representation, but it’s not very open. I think it’s great that it’s a casual thing but it’s almost too casual, to the point where a lot of people didn’t even realise.

@@hjbjms8235 Maybe by offhandedly mentioning an ex-girlfriend or something like that so that it can be casual but explicit, so that LGBT+ people can have the representation they deserve.

I find it better to not have a label on it. Eleanor is Eleanor and I don't think she would give a shirt on who she likes

@@aang3267 I see this too! I think she knows she likes men and women but chooses to not have a label because she like prefers it that way.

I’ve always wondered why coming out is a thing anymore, I wish I could just be like casually “Hey mum, this is my girlfriend” like just not even thinking about it.

i think that either a. everyone should be considered unlabeled until they say otherwise, but make it less of a big deal or b. no one should even have labels and you just attracted to who you’re attracted to

I 100% doubt it, it's like brothers. If anything he could be maybe pan? Fits his character I would say but that's really it, I think he's straight
