One of my best recent finds was my solar system table lamp; a model solar system with all the planets (plus Pluto!) with a lightbulb functioning as the sun in the center. I got it at a flea market for $20! A little pricier than your finds Kristen, but this lamp is so unique it was worth the money to me.

I would not paint! I would clean it up really well n put a polish on it and then maybe put a throw blanket and or small pillow on it to go with your decor.

You're cute little flat baskets were actually made to hold flimsy paper plates, at least in Ohio decades ago.

You can still buy them some places and plastic ones, too. The plastic ones last longer if you buy good plastic and can be washed and won't hold the bacteria that natural ones do

@@jenniferrsmith2012 Hello, l felt the chair painted would lose the look of the wood. I also feel the wood should be cleaned to remove the grime of years & brighten the beauty of the wood.Some furniture looks better painted.

I’m fine with you painting it. When a piece “runs” you; I don’t think it makes sense. Decor is about making your environment feel good, not letting your decor control you.

I would paint the chair black, all except the cane, I would leave that natural. I love the look of black with natural wood.

Love the thrifted air B&B idea! I work a small part time (kinda volunteer) job at a non profit community shop.... I love the old and used items! Recycle, reuse, reduce.... repurpose, and so on!

Hi Kristen, Greetings from the North Island of New Zealand. The Cane chair is my favorite, the Cane Latice seat on it makes it a very special piece. I visited an elderly retired couple many years ago in Conoga Park, Los Angeles, Estelle was an Artist and her home decor was absolutely beautiful, I've never forgotten about their beautiful home out there in the San Fernando Valley, I was 25 then and approaching 65 now. Have a Wonderful Week and Happy thrift store shopping to you and your husband. ☺ PS : I would definitely have bought the Cane Latice Chair ~ a great piece and of course a bargain !!! Just my opinion ~ don't paint the chair it looks great as it is !!! A very unique piece of furniture 👌 Kind Regards, AJ Bentley. Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand.

Amazing finds! 4:15 these are basically 'paper plate holders', we use these party or fiesta back in the Philippines but yes! I never thought of using them as organiser trays!

The tissue box basket would be cute w a battery Pilar candle! The little holes in the basket would let the light peep through

You can also use the square/tissue basket to conceal one of those oil diffusers for a more "decorative/organic" look (instead of looking like a gadget in your beautifully decorated room). I've been looking for a solution for mine and I think this would be a great option!

While I'm against painting old wood pieces in general (especially when people paint over the beautiful wood paneling in old houses) I think that the orangey tone of your cane chair could use a refresh. Maybe painting in a dark blue or forest green to add some variety? I also like the idea you suggested of painting a graphic design on the wall baskets to give them more visual interest. Keep up the great work!

My favorite piece is the cute picture of the bird in the cherry blossom tree. That would look cute on a Gallery wall with Botanicals. I also like the little tissue basket. Great finds!!!

Those "flat baskets" are sold in sets to use as a "plate supporter" for paper plates... summer time, picnic or whenever

You should def do some kind of two tone thing with the chair! I love the little wood handle details near the seat. So keep those wood and maybe paint the middle spindles and top part of the back rest. Use a trendy color you pick so well, and give it a Scandinavian vibe. :)

Your videos are wonderful and your work is beautiful! The “flat baskets” are paper plate holders, lol. They were very popular in the 70’s and 80’s. Nice sturdy plate and no dishes!

Years ago I used two tall back, wooden, woven seat chairs as my bedside tables and used that very caned tray on the chair seat to make it flat so I could put my coffee cups on them ❤️

HELLO there, The thin round flat 1.99 baskets are so helpful. I'm not sure about the original use but my family has always used them for paper plate holders. Years ago i made a basket wall like you have talked about before and a long time ago 45yrs. ago my grandaddy wanted to know why the plate holders was hanging on the wall. lol yes you guess it right we're from the south ❣

my sister got a big mix of thrifted chairs and coffee tables and painted them white for her wedding, and i can confirm it was absolutely gorgeous, especially with the little bunches of wildflowers on the tables :)

Those flat baskets actually appear to be paper plate holders! We had a set like that in the 90’s lol. Love the idea though, I’ll be on the lookout for some when I go thrifting next. And I think the cane chair would look so lovely with a walnut finish or even a sagey, dusty green colour that’s kinda muted and soft.

That basket with the wooden handles... I legit have two just like it except one is probably the same size and the other is super oversized and I use it in my guest bedroom to put towels and stuff for guest

We used to use the flat baskets actually they sell them in SA as paper plates holders for when you out in the park or braai ( bbq).

You should TOTALLY paint the chair white! It would be very monochromatic. Or maybe a really light tone of a color in your home. Like a pastel. Like a sage! Or maybe a really light, almost gray, wood stain.

Maybe stain the chair and use a matte finish wood tone, mahogany, cherry wood, coffee brown, padre brown etc..

I love Habitat Restore, Variety Village and other thrift stores. I did decorate my house with varied pieces. Leave the chair in its original stain.

Keep the chair as is it’s so beautiful. I love a mix of real wood with white and cream decor. Put a throw pillow blanket on it. I think you’ll regret painting it. That trend is on its way out.

I like the cane chair as is. Its beautiful. Honestly, it really shows your design strength when you can take a piece, and without altering it via spray paint or some other atrocity that turns a quality piece/antique into garbage, you piece it into your space in a way that highlights it in its original glory.

I wish we had thrift stores in Italy as well!! Through your videos I've understood that they're such a source of inspiration and a great way to decore your house but on a budget!! So great!! As for the chair... honestly painting wood isn't the best thing... particularly for that chair with that kind of seat... naah I would leave it like that. Maybe you could play with it adding some furry/mordern pillows... I don't know... maybe putting it at the bottom of the stairs... idk Also, shelves in the bathroom are always the best idea!! They're so useful to put the smallest things on! Aah this kind of video makes me want to come shopping with you so baaaaad!! It has become my life goal! I think we would have a lot of fun since I LOVE wandering around shops selling any kind of stuff! I love u so much! Have a nice day

You could drill a couple holes in the brackets of one or both of those shelves and slide a dowel through to create a place to hang towels!

I don't know if you've done anything with the cane chair, but there are many stain options out there. There's even dark almost black if you want to stain it instead of painting.

I’m no expert but I wouldn’t paint the chair. Those chairs are timeless. Shine it up with some min wax? And get a colorful cushion for the seat and a soft throw blanket over the back!
