Rich, former KRK product manager here. I love this review. You are nailing everything we were going for. I love that you noticed that I talked to literally hundreds of pro mix engineers and producers to make a totally new product based on the V Series 4 that I managed as well. "These are not your daddy's Rokits." Great line!
@Dartheomus
@Dartheomus 2 жыл бұрын
Just curious... The community at large has identified that the older G2 Rokits ended up having major crackling issues after 5 years. (Mine included.) The capacitors swell and the dampening glue becomes conductive. I understand that products have a life cycle, but most studio monitors do last for much much longer than 5 years. Yet KRK's response has been basically, "Oh well, go buy our new ones!" So??? What was the internal thought on this. The discussion must have occurred. I guess they decided it would cost too much to keep the customers satisfied with a proper recall? Also, do you think they've learned to build a better products now?

@@Dartheomus I've been gone from there since 2019. I loved bringing the V Series 4 and ROKIT G4 to the market. I'm not sure what talks engineering had about G2. What I do know is that the G4s are a major jump in sound quality, punch, clarity and well worth investing in. This is my opinion as a mix engineer.

hello, the KRK R8 are good but there is a big problem: a constant hissing noise even when the XLR cables are not connected. It's really annoying and incomprehensible. There is nothing you can do, no device can take away this breath. You can reduce the db a bit to -10db but that doesn't fix a problem. It's in the low-end design and components. I was fooled, few people talk about this problem.
@richrenken
@richrenken Жыл бұрын
@@titiland24 That is incorrect. If this is a low-end design then the high end V Series 4 as well as monitors by Neumann and many other high end companies using DSP are doing low-end design. The KRK G4 monitors are less hissy than most DSP monitors. I don't work for the company anymore, this is me as a civilian talking to you. The hiss comes from the amp running wide open. This gives you the most headroom possible. If the hiss bothers you, then you might be a bit OCD. I do understand that because I am. Once you hit play, you do not hear it at all, even at low volume. But yes, if you sit close to them and it bothers you, that is a bummer. For me, my V6 S4s that I use have a bit of hiss (louder than the ROKIT line) in my studio but I couldn't care less because of how fantastic they sound and how they help me get great mixes. If the hiss was a problem then Dave Way, Manny Marroquin, Howie Weinberg, Jacquire King, Metro Boomin', Steve Marcantonio, John Fields, Ulrich Wild and many many more would not be using them.

I also got the Rokit 6 G3s. I did consider the Yamaha, but I needed monitors which would also sound good for listening to my Amazon HD and FLAC playlists, with some decent bass, so I don't need to add a sub. But for mixing I can also get the response totally flat because I have a DSP parametric EQ as part of my PC's Presonus VSL interface playback software. And if I want to add reverb, delay and compression I can do that too from the VSL interface -- all in zero-latency real-time. The other think I like about Rokit vs Yamaha is the KRK's sleep & auto wake mode. They go to sleep after 30mins of no use, and when I next play music through them, they wake up! With the Yamaha one has to keep reaching around to the ON/OFF rocker-switch at the back -- and these types of hard switches in my experience tend to fail after some years. No such worry with my Rokit 6 G3s.

I just setup my Rokit 8 G4s. I'm replacing my Rokit 5 G3s. I'm totally blown away!! They sound incredible compared to my Rokit 5 G3s! A/B-ing them, shows me that the 5's were so muddy (all of the frequencies are on top of each other, and the bass has a unpleasing boomy-ness). I was having a lot of trouble mixing (electronic music) with the 5's. The 8's are SO much clearer. There is so much more space, I can hear all of the individual sounds and where they are in the mix. Obviously the bass is much more detailed and expressive on the 8's compared to the 5's. My jaw literally dropped while listening to some expressive music. I'm hearing things I never heard on the 5's. GAME CHANGER for me. I haven't even used the DSP on them yet.. I'll be doing that next. WOW. Thank you for your review! It got me pretty excited while waiting for my 8's to arrive!

The speakers are fine, not faulty, because if I plug them into my laptop in another room the bass is superb, so its the room. My question is, can the room be treated so the bass is felt, however the room is only about say 3 meters by 2 meters. Or is it just impossible for these speakers to perform in a room that size even if treated. Cheers Gaz

I've had both recently and decided to sell bx8. Objectively, rokits have a bit more power, subjectively, they are not very pretty...:) But my problem with bx8 was position. Because of that rear port they might seem to have more bass, but can sound harsh if too close to the wall. With rokits and front port you can position them anywhere and are very easy to listen for long periods. And since i am using SVS sb-2000 for low end anyway, rokit was a definite winner...Yes, rokits are a bit more expensive, but i would say they are 100% worth it.

Ive only been using studio monitors for a little over 5 years and never liked the sound of the krks Ive heard. However I read about these G4s and went to listen to them at 3 different guitar centers. I listened to the 5, 7, and 8s. I also listened to all the monitors they had there and the G4s were easily my favorite. Most people will say the yamahas are the best guitar center has. But all the times Ive listened to yamahas I just cant get into them. They just sound so sterile like theyre missing lower midrange. The krks on the other hand just sound rich yet tight and clean on the low end. No more boosted lows and highs like the older g3s. Ive also seen a couple frequency graphs and they are no less flat than the yamahas or jbl lsr305s. The generation 2 jbls at the store were too bright for me. The adam A7x had boosted upper midrange. I really liked the adam T7V. Much more neutral midrange over the A7x but still overall a cold sounding speaker. The tweeter just didnt sound like it blended with the midrange that well like the krks. I also heard a pair of red coned BX8s and didnt care for them. Too overall midrange forward. Last monitors I listened to were the Sterling 5 inch and I really liked them. I think for most people these speakers would be too laid back. But I really loved it. A few years ago they had a pair of Mackie XR624s and I liked those more than anything else in the store too. I would love to compare the rp7g4 and xr624s because they are my current choice for replacement of my current monitors but currently Im leaning towards the KRKs. They really focused on making them flat, their tweeter is kevlar which I have never seen done and sound amazing and the switch do dsp which I believe is superior for the blending of the drivers.

KRK's sound great yes but they are not anywhere near good enough to mixdown accurately in a studio, put them through Sonarworks and you will get a shock at the curves.....for playback and DJing, sure.

It’s not even a debate, they sound great but are not flat enough for accurate mixing. End of story

Nomzai hm I would not regard myself as an expert but after 26 years, 200+ records, 12 albums and a University lecturer in music production I would seriously hope I at least have some insight. For the record I own G3’s for the very reason that they sound great.
