Messing around with Spear on all of the different professions was really fun, but kinda makes me wish all Spear autos had the melee/ranged switching mechanic. I feel like it would make Spear such a unique weapon for each profession, especially since it'll be tied to a Mastery (I think I'm remembering that right?). I don't particularly think it's necessary though, especially with how Elementalist mains have been begging for a new ranged weapon, but I still think it could've served as a nice new option for everyone. On another note, it's nice seeing how creative they've been getting with weapon kits recently, and I'd love to see them revisit some older weapons that could use a bit of freshening up (Staff on Elementalist and Thief comes to mind tbh, especially with how Spear seems to do their jobs better). Otherwise I'm very excited to play with Spear!!! So fun to finally be getting a brand new(-ish) weapon to wield and match to my character's aesthetic!

I agree with you and was thinking the same with the auto attacks. Im hoping the will eventually add this to all professions. And yes maybe the spear will outshine some weapons and we will also get a rework on some of them.

Guardian: 1) Auto attack should heal the guardian too. Many other weapons like mace on Guard, staff on both Druid, and Rev already have this effect. Not sure why it's not baked into the kit here. 2) I kinda feel like it coulda used a group aegis somewhere. I know that Guard already has alot of aegis, and the whole Anet favored child thing, yada yada, but cat's already outa the bag. It already has some group utility with condi cleanse, and some healing, just slap a bit of protection for a decent hybrid support. Warrior: 1) Auto attack should have the melee/ranged hybrid swap that certain other classes got, like Ranger or Thief. It just fits more thematically with the class. 2) The 3rd skill is super counter intuitive. You launch a gust of wind AFTER you jump back. Currently if you try to use this skill at it's maximum range it will miss the target, because you leap back out of range of your target. I'd proposes they launch the wind at the start of the animation, so you properly push the target back, while also moving yourself back. 3) I know it's just how that specific type of move works, but I just really don't like the whole "requires a target" type moves in a game that otherwise allows you to free-cast most things. It just feels bad. 4) Make it 1200 range. Warrior already doesn't have the best ranged toolkit. Just give it to them. Revenant: 1) This rev section I'm making here took me less time than a single use of any of the rev spear skill took to cast. For the love of all sanity... Speed. It. Up. 2) Give it 1200 range. Like the War, Revs already have a somewhat lackluster range kit, albeit hammer got a bit of a glow up. 3) Crushing Abys (the buff you get from 5th skill) is too low in duration (which I just saw you mention int he vid). Either make it refresh the duration of the buff, or increase the duration itself. 4) Agreed on adding more strike damage. Honestly I'm of the opinion that more hybrid weapons is a good thing, since it broadens playstyles and options for players, provided it's balanced of course. Elementalist: 1) Just make the auto attack actually hit more than 2 targets (currently only hits 1). 2) Again agreed, the spell circles need to have a bit more generous window. Cause it really only juusst barely gives you enough time to cast 3 skills before it fizzles out. In PvP, I can tell you that's a VERY easy thing to exploit against with a simple CC. The rest of the classes didn't pique my interest enough to try out just yet, or I found them to be fine.

I actually like that it doesn’t heal the guardian. Heals are too easy to come by and are usually not all that needed - especially for a guardian.

Thanks for the showcase and commentary! I'm very excited about thief, I think this combo thingie might be extended to other weapons in the future, it makes thief dynamic, it's a good match with the initiative system.

Ele spear is so fun!! I love thats a ranged weapon, im not sure if the damage numbers are ok but Im having a blast testing it.

The revenant spear pumps out massive corruption stacks, under quickness and alacrity, i got it to like 65 stacks, with proper rotation im sure it goes higher

one of my biggest issues with ele spear is its all blast finishers when all our fields are under us on a 1200 range wep

What I like most about spears is the way your character holds it! I think they did an amazing job with those and I'm sure they will adjust the numbers as well for when they release. 😊

i really really hope they tweak spear on revenant to make it better. I main both revenant in gw2 and dragoon on FFXIV so i also would love to play that dragoon fantasy on gw2 but as it is rn there is very little reason to chose spear over the more complete Greatsword vindicator

Rev Spear is 100% the weak link for the professions this time round. I'm sure the amount of Torment stacks it pumps is pretty good, but it doesn't feel good to use. Abyssal Raze is fantastic and I love that there is a clear intent on "Use one ability, the rest adjust its cooldown", alongside the mine ability being a skill shot and not a straight backwards evade (you have no idea how happy that genuinely makes me). The problem I have with it personally is that with its current iteration, it is a weapon that you stack the buff as fast as possible, and then switch to another weapon to use its skills until the swap cooldown resets. I don't need to camp the weapons 100% of the time when I use it, but my interaction with it is IDENTICAL to staff on Rev. Use skill 5 when you need it, then swap back to your other weapon set. The auto chain doesn't work all that well, the ranged auto is too slow, its death by 1000 cuts. My arm-chair developer opinion would speed up the auto chain and make it a 3 hit melee, instead of the hybrid it currently is. Make Abyssal Raze last 10 seconds so you can track it with weapon swap and have skill 5 come out faster OR cost less energy.

@@Pablud3Sthis is ele. Just because it “works” for support, doesn’t mean it can’t do other things. Scepter was buffed for power builds, but it can still do condi. HB is known for using axe, and that weapon isn’t support. They bring it for axe 3. Also, Ele has no long range condi option.

I do agree with what you said about the poison debuff for necro. My main is Necro too, and the build i mainly use is the reaper minion build, which does a little more power side attacks, but also has some side debuffs, with vunrnability being main, and chill and poison and random debuffs from axe 3 on the side, but i always want to try some more on the poison part, because of exploding minions poison area. i am talking about the minion skill, where when you defeat an enemy, a minion will be summoned for a small duration, with ending being a small aoe damage, and leaving a poison area too, and this can be taken extra advantage wit the shout skill "rise", and deliver the powers effects once the minions time ends. The build is mainly focused on bersekers gear, but man, if the added poison to it, i could so easily change it into shouts debuffs, and summons, with a good viper's or trailblazer's set. It could still be used by the shout reaper though i think, with some extra HP leach, and make it more forgiving at least.

been messing around with rev on vipers/ assasin, slow Af BUT quick herald + shiro's been really fun to play. the stack uptime is really low so i guess they are gonna increase the time it last just like mace on ranger and i hope the 3rd skill can be centered around the character and not stuck to the terrain since this game isnt really that slow nor ppl in competitive mode is gonna go trough it anyway XD .

My thoughts, in the same order: Warrior: Needed a ranged weapon with different functionality to rifle. It's a bit vanilla, but I'd take that over a complex mechanic that could make it impractical. Could probably do with some access to self-buffs, though. Guardian: It's basically the third coming of the old guardian staff playstyle, with the rest of the weapon being better designed for it. Looking good as long as the numbers work out right - it might turn out to be a bit of a specialist weapon, but guardian has enough good weapons it can afford one that's a little niche. (Second coming was Tome of Justice when Radiance could refresh it.) Revenant: Disappointed that they didn't go with an Archemorus theme even if that's not strictly linked to the expansion area and story - the darkness theme they've gone with might be linked to something in Janthir Wilds, but at the moment it just feels generically edgy. The mechanic seems like it'll just be a PITA to build up and maintain unless you've really got a lot of densely packed trash to clear out. Engineer: Don't like that it's another melee weapon, and being condi could make it a bit awkward to run with scrapper and holo. Feels like it's fairly decent, though, and it seems to be more of a hybrid than strictly condi, so this makes it less of a bad weapon and more of a case of perhaps not really being the right weapon for right now. Ranger: Don't really have any strong feelings on it. Not sure about having so many skills linked to limited availability of stealth, but it should be balanced according to that limited availability, so it should be fine. Being a ranged/melee hybrid could be good for situations where you don't want to be exclusively melee but don't want to dedicate an entire weaponset to ranged. Thief: Been wanting a melee weapon with a condition-based stealth attack for a while. It also looks like it'll get away from the 3-3-3 (or some other number) common with thief builds, without being as awkward as axe can be. Maleficent 7 deadeye might be a bit awkward with it, but it's looking good overall. Necromancer: Full agreement that necro should have received a condition melee weapon here. I think the distinction between spear and greatsword is that spear is much more mobility-oriented, but even if it's designed for reaper, condition reaper exists. Mesmer: Just generally looks and feels good from my brief playing around with it. I have concerns about getting clarity reliably with Mind the Gap, but the animation feels like it gives you plenty of opportunity to position appropriately, so it's probably possible in most circumstances to catch at least one target in that ring. Elementalist: The etching probably could do with a bit more margin for spellcasting, and I'm concerned that it doesn't really synergise too well with any of the ele elite specs in PvE (tempest wants to be in close for overloads, catalyst generally wants to be in close for spheres, weaver has some trait issues with spear). Ultimately, whether it's a good weapon or whether it's just good graphics is probably going to depend on the numbers.

For Rev speed issue aside. My only issue is the ramp up for skill 5. It take 5 cast for max stack and cost too much energy with upkeep active

i play only pvp. war spear for me is a kill setup weapon with good range options as welll as defensive ones with f1 and 3. i had good time with berserker spear with big damage, but the kit overall feels kinda clunky atm. i need to practice it more but i dont think it will be better than rifle

ranger's spear graphically is ok (at least we are not warrior) but the kit itself is really lackluster since the stealth mechanics is really interesting but really annoying to interact with. We no longer have the rune of the trapper to have a bit of stealth on demand and skill 5 its kindda meh to rely on. Also, It doesn't have combo finishers to interact with smoke scale and have access to stealth mechanic more times since the CC is locked behind that mechanics.

That is a great note with pet interaction, and access to stealth beyond the spear. Also, the Reveal can be tricky to navigate at times.

Proof I have to say you where wayyyy to nice on ranger spear It’s big crap as for now 1. Animation wise it’s bad 2. Clunky as hell 3. Make you use only one pet panther 4. Stealth mechanic is bad

I really enjoyed Thief spear but it definitely needs to be queueable. I found it a bit clunky but had so much potential and I can't wait to see how it is when the expansion launches.

I feel like overall a lot of the spears attack very slowly, but in general? I ADORE the vibe the devs have went for with each of them. Thematically and animation-wise I think Anet hit it out of the park, I was hollering trying out Rev, Ranger and Ele in particular. I'm not v good at buildcraft or optimisation and related things so I've not really got much feedback in the damage/boons/condis department, but according to Reddit posts I've seen at least the spears aren't hitting hard enough yet

Warrior's spear is based on damage, and yet, it cannot do the kind of damage other weapons do, soooooo, meh. but seeing the staff being an unpopular weapon choice and the weapon mastery not benefiting the warrior from past 2 expansions, let's not have too much hope for this one. As for ele, even though the damage is not there and it's spammy cause of the short duration on etching.....It is fun fun fun. Even if it's not meta, take it out for a drive in open world.

I'd rather have a ranged support weapon, so either make the wand ranged or change the spear to a ranged support weapon. Edit: visually its nice but too much. Would make it harder to see aoe skills from bossfights.

As if no other condi is placed on it (damaging condi that is) it is incredibly easy for all your damage you’ve built up to drop off. Those weapons (SB/M/Axe) all have multiple damaging condition to them.

@@KROOF as another comment pointed it out...with proper rotation, alac and quickness the corruption stacks skyrocket. If you tweak them now to be quicker then i would say they become far too strong.

warrior's spear having 0 boons and 0 condis on it pretty much makes sure that it will never see play unless if it's numbers are very problematic. It's the definition of a badly made weapon. Could've easily put bleed on auto, burn on 2 and Burn or something on 5 and F1. Make it like a hybrid weapon. OR AT LEAST give some boons to it. Right now it has no purpose in any mode.... it's pretty much a worse rifle or something. And rifle doesn't see play anyway. I don't see the point if adding ANOTHER power only weapon to warrior with 0 boons and 0 condis.. PURE power.

Hey Kroof love the breakdown! I heard that GW3 is in somewhat development? I wonder, coming from playing New World for a bit when it came out, how would people react to having always-on player collission? I love the idea because, to me, it avoids the clumping of people and even though the game is not geared towards realism, it gives it that sense somewhat (to me). Also, I imagine you never played it because the game is quite old and never really was popular, but I began my MMO journey (more like eras) by playing an Argentinian MMO (from where I am) called now Champions of Regnum, then known as Regnum Online. If you haven't heard of it, there were some mechanics in that game that I always loved and never really saw in any other MMO or at least to that extent. Like different weapons having different types of damage, like Spears having Pierce, Hammers having Crush, Swords having Cut, and even having different elemental damage in weapons. That way, the build of each character in the game felt more unique and made for a deeper (to me) defensive strategy wondering what would the other player have in damage types and choosing my armor to that. Also the Faction on Faction War aspect to me it's unrivaled. In that game, you start within the confines of your Faction and once you are of a certain level, you can venture outside of the Realm Walls, and it's open pvp with fort and castle captures, all withouth loading screens or going into another stance of the game like a PvP arena. I wonder what you think if Arena Net implemented some of those aspects into GW3 or maybe some other GW2 expansion, specially the Gear-Type of damage stuff. Love the videos, have a great day!

to be honest, for myself, i see no use in using the spear on any character because all the builds i play of them, work very fine the way they are, i dont think i gain anything, its more like, playing it differently then usual, which to me, as a person that can play nothing but condi rev for 4 years straight without getting bored, is nothing that gets me hooked and compared to secialisations, a weak addition for an addon

Rangers spear is a disappointment to me. It feels like the geatsword with a few alterations. We did not really need it when you think other alternatives that the class is missing. And that rangers already were able to have stealth through smoke field, and especially now with the juvenile jaguar change. Does spear simplify this, yes it does, but it is still an old play style that we already had (just not in 1 weapon). And this still has the issue of projectile block most of the time. After Druid came out, rangers have gotten 3 melee weapons (that play very similarly to each other) and now this hybrid. We still only have one main hand range dmg weapon. Yes the axe is good but options would be nice to have for variety. I personally also have wanted a different fantasy trope from the ranger for years now. Were is the GW1 / tribal hunter idea with spear+shield. Were is the second nature magic style weapon to druids staff. Why can't we have a weapon that has ground targeted aoe effects so that we can have a proper chance in WvW mob fights. (And not be rooted in place with longbow 5). There are other possibilities out there but Anet seems to want to do the same thing over and over.

I think we've had nature magic style weapons in the hammer and maces, problem is that they're MELEE nature magic style weapons so it's mostly just some fancy particle effects rather than really feeling the magic (similar to those melee elementalist weapons Kroof was referring to).

Thief spear is fun. But the damage is way too low. There's not enough benefit in learning the combos. Almost every other weapon can do more damage. Fun in pve but useless in pvp, generally speaking.

it's pretty sad that you don't show the skills on ranger like on the onthers (elementalist best showcase youve done in this vid) bc. you only were hitting 1 most of the time wanna see those skills X P . Great opinion felt the same way :D

@@BryanHRR A large part of the problem is that while warrior has a lot of weapons, a lot of them are basically dumpster-tier. Although they did do a good job of pulling hammer out of that dumpster not too long ago.

I’m convinced anet hates warrior. Someone in their group got beat up by one or something and has and endless hate towards the class. 1200 range is so needed. Also the number 2 and 5 should be like ranger where no line of sight should be needed. You literally throw it up. Not only that it would be better to throw 2 at target selected not at aoe that one selects. It would be much faster.

@@boutch1993 wvw life man, i mained warrior from beta of base game. In wvw every other class keeps getting better skills and better weapon attacks. Movement is king in wvw. So far stealth and ports win in a fight. A warrior is what necro used to be before, a punching bag. Only certain builds work in wvw to survive and most need people to play with you as solo you just get ganked with players using said better skills from their class. But hey, everyone has different experiences from different servers.

@@GonzalezS777 but your class has the largest health pool in the game, amazing regen with a staff, that gives heals on demand. Also, as a warrior, I don't think you're supposed to just teleport or stealth, as it don't match very well with the profession fantasy. But you have lots os cc skills, and very nice damage. In addition, with spellbreaker, you have a block/counter with very low cooldown.

@@boutch1993 you do realize that is my whole point. The warrior is always given things to survive never to attack. A will bender in wvw can do much better melee damage and port around after the fact with a clean kill. Warrior now just has all these utilities to survive the abuse but not to give it back. Right now it is mostly all or nothing builds and even then some still play with help on the side. I was just hoping spear would have 1200 range to make it a good long range weapon, not broken dps. Don’t need it to out dps others like rangers or eles, just enough to be safe and if pushed then warrior utilities meant to be on your face could be used as meant. Just a means to survive the onslaught of all other classes able to get away safely with their ports and invulnerability.

When you realize it's not that big a deal. Some of the animations and skills look like they're 10 years old, unimaginative, lacking variety... Pity.
