Kruger Park, Season 13 (English), "Mating Lions 2", about 5 mating male lions followed for 2 years.

Documentary with a full story of five male lions observed for two successive years, being single the first year, then leading a troop of several females in the same area the following year, with many filmed matings -- often only a few meters away -- for 5 mornings in a row, which is exceptional.

Note that another totally different story about mating lions exists in "SEASON 1" of the channel "charles pierrot", entitled "Mating lions 1", with a version in English ( • Kruger Park, Season 1 ... ) and a version 1Bis in French ( • Kruger Park, Season 1B... ) of the same movie : in this other group of lions, two couples of lions (2 males and 2 females), mating together, were followed for 7 days in a row, which is again a very rare situation, with also many successive filmed matings a few meters away, as in this Season 13.
Visit in car, alone, of Kruger National Park for one month almost every year since 1999. A series of 21 movies on this Park by the same author are also available in KZfaq : besides SEASONS 1&13 (on mating lions), SEASON 2 (in French) and 2Bis (in English) is a documentary on "Nesting Saddle-billed Storks", followed for one full month; SEASONS 3 to 12 are 'Road Movies' (in French) with a lot of successive African adventures lived in this huge Park between 2017 and 2020; SEASONS 3 and 12 include full English subtitles; SEASON 14 (in English) shows "Some Dramatic Events", with spectacular scenes involving different types of animals ( • Kruger Park, Season 14... ); SEASON 15 (in English) shows “Fighting Sable Antelopes”, filmed for an entire morning ( • Kruger Park, Season 15... ); lastly, SEASON 17 (English) is on Elephants, which are not always peaceful, and SEASON 18 (English) on Crocodiles and Birds fighting over Fish.
Use of cameras Sony 4K, GoPro (4 & 8) and Nikon D800 & D850, for a very high definition of movies and pictures
Note also that all these films have been conceived to be watched on a large horizontal computer (or TV) screen and are available in HD (1080p) in KZfaq.

It essentially depends on the hormonal receptivity of the female, which can be immediate or only come after several days of frequentation.

Good question. It seems to be a confirmation ritual for the lioness herself and above all to show her partner that she was satisfied with the last sexual encounter. It is always the lioness that regulates the rhythm of (frequent) sexual intercourse during the long mating period, first getting up and walking a little -- or circling around the male, crawling and brushing against him -- before finally and explicitly lying down in front of him in the right position to perform the act.

Thank you for your attention to this video! The injured lion probably fought for access to females too with one of the two dominant lions mating and was obviously deeply bitten on his back by this lion due to the clear imprints of two upper canines on each side of his spine. This wound was not really severe since he could still walk, but likely painful and difficult to close by itself, moreover located in a place he could not reach with his tongue. This is why these holes in his skin were already infected with a lot of flies on them. So, this could be a more serious short-term problem for him. I don’t really know what finally happened since I have not seen this group of lions again after these 5 days. However, I hope there was a happy end for this injured lion since the healing and immune systems of wild animals are very effective and which is not immediately fatal generally ends up improving.
