I love this film too, even though people would mock me mercilessly if I told them. I suppose it's what you would call a "guilty pleasure". It's nice to see a simple tale of good versus evil, where nothing is too complicated or needs analysing.

I saw in the extras that these horses were actually brood mares from a farm and were not really used to being riden so the scenes where the actors were trying to mount and falling off were REAL. I love this scene too- now I must go out and get the video !!!!

Great movie - I first saw it back in the mid 80's when I was a kid and many times since! Honestly I can remember every scene about this film. I see that kids for the past 15 years don't know what really good cinema is all about. Great soundtrack - a true hero movie so original in thought!

I remember watching this movie as a kid, and being fascinated by the Fire Mares and especially their ability to fly. being a science geek, I wanted to explain logically how they could do that. I also read a book called "So you want to be a Wizard" by Diane Duane, and one of the characters could walk on air by solidfying the molecules enough to make a surface. I imagine the Fire Mare do something similar, like when they start making fire they are making micro explosions on a molecular level that provide enough force to support their weight even on air. So they are literally running on the blast force of explosions beneath their feet. I haven't figured out in my head what in their physiolgoy would trigger the blasts, but I think ti's a pretty cool idea. In that way though it bothered me that the air running scene was so silent and smooth, cuz I did't imagine them as floating but as still running but on the air molecules, maybe muted galloping noises or little base booms would convey the idea of them running on the actual air. Cheers.

Arthur C. Clarke used to say "Any technology far advanced enough is indistinguishable from magic." This is basically the story of a space invasion on a planet with a medieval civilization, told from the point of view of said medieval civilization. Though when I first saw it, I did assume it to be a Star Wars prequel and the original story of Anakin Skywalker (it is prohesied that somebody will bear a son and that son shall rule the galaxy).

At 4:15: “We had no time…” Damn, Ergo and Rell the Cyclops really get me here. 🥲 Sometimes, you meet people in life that you instantly connect with. Friends like that are rare, but real. These two had a bond that was short and sweet. Reminds me of Gimli and Legolas - an unlikely pair, but friends forever.

A remake doesn't mean a replacement! They don't damage nor fix the original. But I think it would be fun to have a remake of this. It wouldn't be the same, of course, but it could have its own good points. Remakes have been around from the time of Shakespeare and before that and are a theater tradition. Its like a storyteller hearing a good story then retelling it their own way. I like them. They keep stories from disappearing.

It wasn't so much her age, the studio bosses at Columbia thought an American actress would give better box office than an English one, so they dubbed her into American. She still seemed pretty pissed off about it on the DVD commentary, nearly 20 years later and takes swipes at the movie throughout.
