When it comes to vector tracing, there are at least two reasons to do it. The first is that you're tracing something which has a million colors and you might want to be able to enlarge it for print. In that case, there are probably lots of programs that can do that because it is very forgiving. The other reason to trace is that you are needing to accurately reproduce a design. That is where these tracing programs differ, and that is why a program like Vector Magic costs $300.00 and all it does it trace. In my work, I'm looking for accuracy 100% of the time. I haven't found a free solution that is good for that.

I agree about auto trace, vector pattern along a path & blends. For these I use Inkscape. I often use blends *as* patterns along a path. This can create a color gradient along a path. I can use another pattern along a duplicate path & then create a clipping path to create a multi-color true vector brush. I use pattern along a path & blend much more often than I would auto trace in a single project. These would be more important to integrate into Affinity to reduce cutting & pasting. Using Inkscape for auto tracing is only a bit more work than, say, exporting a png from an external raster editor.

@@DieTabbi I've had hardware & software issues for a while & been running Linux much of the time. If Affinity Designer has a true vector along path it is a *new* feature since my comment. I'll have to check. What Affinity *has* had is a feature *they* call a 'vector brush.' This bends a gray scale *raster* ( 8-bit bit map) *image* (which can be colorized) along a *vector* path. Not the same as bending a true vector path along another true vector path. Both have their advantages & weaknesses, but not the same thing. Which tut by whom, BTW? I find them useful.

Affinity Revolution was a super important channel for V1 so many new affinity users were able to switch from AI thanks to them teaching about this new affordable and unknown program called Affinity Designer, unfortunately, they didn't cover much V2 content so far

Price is not the critical point. Your personal needs is the critical point. If you needed the more expensive product then then cheaper one would not even be an option.

@@KruMark You do great content, looking forward to it. I was always an Illustrator guy. I'm blown away at the ease of use of the Affinity products that do everything I need. I'm a convert!

For now, but they are planning (or maybe already implemented) a limit for AI and they are keeping it behind a huge pay paywall, sadly.
