Huh, it takes me over a million to get to Jool and even Eve. Granted, my strategy is 9 gigantic SRBs pushing a massive second liquid fuel stage. I have a mod that you can use to increase sizes (amongstus many others), so basically most of my rockets are just Manatee engines strapped on top of an enlarged Clydesdale that also has 8 enlarged Thoroughbred the push it. The SRBs alone can make the rocket escape Kerbin.

Somewhat dependent on your FPS. I would trust them to take around 60m/s at most, anymore and there's a chance frames will get skipped and the effectiveness is reduced.

Max J. 1.4.3 released yesterday enables you to deploy parachutes while seated.
