correction: So I misread the picture I was referencing for this build, so the two jet engines I put down are actually rocket engines. No jet engines were present on the Buran that went to orbit irl to my knowledge. I may be wrong so let me know if I got that wrong. Also, it was pointed out to me that the side boosters are slightly offset away from the the buran.

Enerigia Buran was probably better in my opinion because it didn’t need a crew and it had jets. But Nasa did a fine job landing without jets. However both shuttles were flawed with the heat shields. The only reason the Buran had jets was for ksp players to have a better time landing it🤣

Yeaa no, the turbofan engines are supposed to go on the side of the fuselage, not at the back. The Buran use two RD-58s engines at the rear for orbit insertion and for de-orbiting. Buran never flew with the turbofan engines, only Ptichka did during test flights, and it had to use four turbofans, not 2. Also two of the Zenit boosters were offset by 13,3 degrees and two of the boosters 30 degrees. They were not attached symmetrically opposite. Also the RD-0120 engine were not in line with the fuel tank itself, they were offset toward the payload (in this case being the Buran). So there is a bunch of stuff wrong in this tutorial.

I made an Energia replica before but I wanted to use the mammoth/vector engines because the energia core stage had 4 engines that were basically Soviet rs-25s. For the RD-170s, I used 4 reliant engines on a 1.8 m side tank. Side note: reliant and swivel engines make amazing early game engine clusters. 4 reliants and a swivel is more powerful than a vector.

It is not failed. It just, got forgotten with the collapse of the USSR. And it is not a copy. The shape and colors are similar because it is very good for gliding and flying + the colors are the heat resistant tiles

Question about the Buran. Weren't the jet engines supposed to be side mounted like you take the mk0 liquid fueselage, add a Juno engine and an intake, and put four of them, one either side of the tail fin and one either side centered? And what were the stronger vacuum engines? Were there?

I watch your vids for entertainment. Also, when trying to get the centre of thrust from a particular engine thru the Centre of weight, disable all other engines so the arrow will show the CoT of those engines.

The fact that NASA could land without jet engines is mental. They’d have to calculate precise timing on deorbit burns taking into account drag from the atmosphere and line up perfectly with a runway on the other side of the world. Incredible they only lost 2 shuttles tbh.

I wouldn't really call it failed, it worked fine. The Soviets just didnt really have a need for it and realized that shuttle type spacecraft really arent a good idea.

Lol at people who think Buran was better than the Space Shuttle. On what basis ? One unmanned TestFlight lasting less than a day? The Shuttle was a flawed program but it brought some of the greatest achievements in human space exploration with it. You wouldn’t have the Hubble without the space shuttles ability to upgrade and repair in orbit. The ISS would not have been nearly as robust without the space shuttles controlled flight capability. The Shuttle was an amazing machine. Buran was an interesting concept vehicle. The fact it could be remote operated doesn’t make it better. What is the point of an unmanned shuttle anyways? The Soviets wanted to prove their engineering was on par with the NASA. It was a concept vehicle and nothing more. It was never even rated for human space flight. Life support systems were some of the most complicated aspects of the shuttle. The world will not be building anything with the capabilities the shuttle had in LEO anytime soon.
