My father just gave me one today, it's marked US M3 Camillus on the blade and nothing else, just learned now it's sheath is fibreglass. I'm 56 today and I remember my father have it when I was a kid, and it looked very old indeed, he have too a 1944 canteen US issue but sadly it was lost....

It being from your father makes it all the more precious to you I'm sure. All that old military gear is still useful today. I've got a lot of it and it still pulls its weight along side the new gear. Thanks for sharing you story and thanks for watching

Polish the handle with boot polish. I am likely one of the last to have been issued this knife (it's more of a dagger). I was issued one of these by the ROKA Rangers in 1977. It was the best throwing knife/dagger with good weight to it with good steel. Without the bayonet hole punch, it is extremely well balanced. I personally think it's more like a dagger instead of a knife because of it's much better weight aerodynamics when compared to "knives or K-Bars". I wish I could find a few today as they made for great consistent flight throwing fun.

Thanks for the info, I’ll try that and see if it tightens up. I agree, it’s more of a dagger design than a field knife design. I can see where it would excel in stabbing and throwing. Thank you for your service and thanks for watching

@@CentralKyBushcraft The m-3 and it's like bladed bayonet cousins, all had/have more penetrating power than an average style knife. It would be much more difficult to try penetrating a soldier's clothing, parka, coat or pile cap with a standard style knife blade, yet the thin dynamics of the m-3 and like bayonets makes that task more easy to push in. And... though throwing is always a bad idea, most of us just loved that pastime, but it hits like a brick and has very flat stable flight characteristics with no spin needed out to about 12 feet. I'm just an old guy enjoying your shows, Thx!

That's great that you were able to keep it. It's funny how something with such a short production run spawned so many different versions. Thanks for watching

I bought one at a gun show about 10 yrs ago. It only has 6 of the leather washers left on the handle. I believe it was underwater for sometime. I can find no date or manufacturer anywhere on the knife. I’ve thought about trying to refinish it but i’ll probably just leave it as a wall hanger!

The markings on them vary from company to company and could be in different places depending on when they were made. But they do make a interesting conversation piece! Thanks for watching

I’ve always heard that the blade stamp knives were weaker and the blade stamp caused a blade to be weak. That’s why they eventually started stamping the guard.
