A jury on Friday found Hidden Hills socialite Rebecca Grossman guilty in the deaths of Jacob Iskander, 8, and Mark Iskander, 11, who were hit and killed in a crosswalk in Westlake Village in 2020. Grossman, 60, was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death.
Following a six-week trial, the jury deliberated for nearly two days before handing down the unanimous verdict on Friday afternoon at Van Nuys Superior Court. Crying could be heard from both sides of the courtroom when the verdict was read.
On Sept. 29, 2020, the two boys were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk with their parents and siblings at the intersection of Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive at around 7:10 p.m. when Grossman struck them, prosecutors said. The vehicle sped through the intersection and hit the boys "right in front of the parents," according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. Prosecutors said Grossman was going over 70 mph on a 45 mph street.
KTLA's Mary Beth McDade reports on Feb. 23, 2024.

Luckily the minimum for 2nd degree is 15 years, on two counts. So even if the judge runs them concurrently she'll get a minimum of 15 years. However her wealth will get her paroled at the earliest possible opportunity at her first parole hearing (possibly at around 50% of her sentence). I am not sure of the parole laws in this state, but this seems the most likely scenario. Her wealth will continue to favour her throughout the process until her release. Hopefully she gets a minimum of 15 + 15 and they run consecutively = 30 years at least. This will definitely go to appeal, knowing that family, shown no remorse, no apologies, zero accountability. Also hope the victims' family get a huge award in the civil trial.

This may be worse for her than she expects. She has a bit of a history with traffic violations that seem to involve speeding. She hits other vehicles then files personal injury claims. She might have a history of trying to fight her citations with threats to sue various law enforcement agencies (I haven’t seen that one in a while but there was a story about this a couple of years ago). The prosecution has already brought up the way she completely ignored various warnings about her driving habits. Unless the conviction is vacated she probably will get at least 15 years.

I agree. Concurrent sentencing for multiple convictions is a slap in the face to the victims and their families. It's equivalent to a get out of prison early card. Its stupid to take someones life like itll change anything or bring the kids back but they lost their lives and these parents had to bury their children because an idiot got behind the wheel. :v i still stand by a system that serves time that reflects on the lost years of the victims affected and if u dont agree just remember its my opinion and u have urs so 👌

Why wasn't there any mention of DUI? I understood she was legally drunk at one point, and just under at another. I understood that even if one was under the limit, DUI could still be used against a driver if other circumstances were involved, such as a driver killing two pedestrians. Edit: this is from the California DMV handbook: "If you drive with an illegal BAC, a law enforcement officer can charge you with DUI. Even if your BAC is below legal limits, that does not mean it is safe for you to drive. Almost everyone feels negative effects of alcohol, even at levels lower than the legal limit. Depending on how badly you are impaired, you may be arrested and convicted of a DUI even without a BAC measurement."

@culcune, You're correct; any indication of alcohol in the blood is grounds for a DUI. I don't know why the fact that Ms. Grossman was impaired was not emphasized. My best guess is that her whole defense was based on shifting blame to another person, de-emphasizing the fact that she was impaired. What an unspeakable tragedy for the family that lost 2 little boys. Sadly, their nightmare doesn't end with this. Alcohol is a factor in too many motor vehicles accidents. This is the first I’ve heard of this case. What an unimaginable tragedy for the family of those little brothers. While Justice may, indeed, have been served, if I were the boys’ parent, I’m not sure I could ever move forward, no matter what. I would be paralyzed with grief. My heart goes out to their parents. May the two boys be resting in the arms of the angels.

I wonder if they were able to have more children. Sometimes people are able to move forward by focusing on new lives. That’s what the Krim family from New York did. (Murderous, deranged nanny) It doesn’t change the pain and loss, but it gives you a reason to move forward. The pictures of those boys were so precious. My heart could barely handle it. 💔 If I were responsible for killing them, the guilt and regret would overwhelm me.

@SpaceCowboy175 I agree 💯. When the verdict was read, the daughter yelled at the Iskanders, saying "why did you do this?? Look what you've done!". WTF?????? The daughter is as bad as Mother Grossman. Evil narcissists. Did they expect the Iskanders to just walk away and not charge her? Also, the jury decided the verdict, not the Iskanders. They wanna pout & have a tantrum, then yell at the jury. Her kids were also mad when the judge had her cuffed & taken away without them getting to hug her goodbye. Judge made it clear "justice has been delayed long enough". They don't want her found guilty, and they're mad they can't hug her goodbye. But it sure is okay with them that the Iskander family will never see their sons again, and that the mother will never kiss her sons again. Also, she kept changing lawyers to stall the case. One lawyer actually got sick and passed away. Then she turned on that lover of her's and blamed him for the murders. This woman is pure garbage. Evil. I can't wait for her to meet "the girls" in prison.

Rich people should be held to a much higher standard liability rise. How much better would our countries prison and justice system be if liabilty was % of gross income and not a flat fee. If the verdicts are to teach any kind of lesson why are poorer people hit much harder by verdicts? Penalties for a poor person could be upwards of 10,000% their annual income.
