Here is a short vid following my latest modification on my KTM 1290 Superduke GT. I was looking to improve the range of my 6th gear as well as doing a routine chain and sprocket mod and upgrade.

I bought my R with 16t installed, great. Today I am changing to 15.

With the lower gear ratio, it is able to get to peak RPM/H.P. sooner...

Indeed it does, acceleration is swifter and as the engine revs are faster earlier you get to peak power.

have you checked to see how much it's put your speedo off. Normally sprocket changes, change the accuracy of the speedo. Hence why speedo healers are sold to rectify the speedo to the new gearing. So in the trail after, you might not of even being doing 60 as that could of been put off by the sprocket change.

I will ha e to check as simply bought on line, there are several suppliers and I searched on the bike model and age and asked for the one with the 1 less tooth

Very much so yes. Its more punchy from the stand still and acceleration with only a small reduction in top end and economy

Love the bike. Just got my 2023. Why does everyone leave the motorex oil sticker on the case? That, the other stickers and reflectors were the first to go for me. They're not paying me to advertise. And it will be Rotella T6 soon.

Yes you have lowered the overall gearing of the bike, it will pick up quicker but you will lose some top end speed as your revs will be higher and you'll hit the limiter quicker!!

Agree, however still got to 166mph fully loaded with panniers/luggage etc on an autobahn the other week 😀

@@stevesherlockrides Steve hi, my 1290gt 2023 does a very aggressive power drop from 45kmh - 50kmh and below on the second gear. But usually between 45kmh and 50kmh. I cannot possibly understand why. I am thinking of also changing the front sprocket. What you think?
@stevesherlockrides
@stevesherlockrides 8 ай бұрын
When you say power drop that sounds more like an engine issues as the sprocket change doesn't change power at all. Would you be dropping down a gear as that might explain it a little
@stevesherlockrides
@stevesherlockrides 8 ай бұрын
Ps I would leave the rear sprocket alone if you are also doing the front one.

Hı, changing the sprockets does improve the acceleration, but decrease the top speed.

Not in actual effect, with stock gearing the bike would top out at 193mph, ,but it'll never actually reach that speed, with 1 teeth down on the front your theoretical top speed is still 181 mph, which with the teeth down on the front hte bike MIGHT just do.
@stevesherlockrides
@stevesherlockrides Жыл бұрын
Interesting. With wind friction etc I haven't heard of a top speed Greater than 165mph or so.

@@stevesherlockrides I hit 177 on speedo which was off surprisingly little, GPS recorded 171 but the bike definitely went over the "peak of it's power", with shorter gearing it may stay in power right when it needs it. I had a similar effect on my old ER6, putting 2 teeth larger sprocket on the rear actually increased top speed a few mph because 6th is geared too long.

Changing sprockets does not increase power, it moves the torque in relation to speed
@stevesherlockrides
@stevesherlockrides Жыл бұрын
Yes I appreciate that but it does deliver it differently to the back wheel due to the torque shift

you don't have to change the sprockets every time your chain wares out. It depends on how much life the sprockets have on them, usually they last years of riding and it's just the chain you change.
@stevesherlockrides
@stevesherlockrides Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you can get away with it but its worth changing anyway as otherwise any slight wearing on the sprockets can accelerate friction and therefore wear on the new chain. I've had many a mechanic and people on the race circuit say the same.
