If you're looking for your first bike, and smiles per pound/dollar/euro/please insert currency here... then both of these bikes are brilliant choice. And to be perfectly honest there is very little to split them apart. They are only really split by around £150, about 2KG and roughly 10BHP. It really comes down the the subtlest of pallet changes. If you are more concerned with practicality, functionality and value for money, whilst still retaining an element of excitement and exhilaration then go for the BMW. But if you want to go as fast as possible for your money and treat every ride like a race then the KTM has to be your pick. It's faster, it's louder, it's exciting every time you twist the throttle and it's got all the bells and whistles you'd expect for even the most tech hungry amongst us. Just never release that clutch on either bike because they haven't got a neutral slot between them.
Amendment: I mention turning off the traction control on the KTM at 5:17 and definitely meant to say ABS. Neither bike has traction control but the KTM does have switchable ABS on the rear wheel. Apologies one and all.
