Looks cool, Nice Vid. Wondering… isn’t this for high speed sand riding?
@CodgerBiker2 жыл бұрын
That is one use. It is very adjustable. So it's for any situation where a 'Tank Slapper' might occur. Even on-road post wheelie for instance 👍

Quick fitment question. With the Rade Garage riser are the factory KTM vibration isolation cones retained? Also, how tall of a rise?
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
I had 20mm risers already. These are about the same. They sit on top of existing rubber mounted fittings, just uses longer bolts 👍
@Britishshooter2 жыл бұрын
I cannot find out how high you can go without replacing the hydraulic lines to clutch and inboard ABS unit on a 2021 690. Anyone know?
@CodgerBiker2 жыл бұрын
Seems fine with the Rade risers which is about same as the 20mm riser I had before (give or take). Try asking on the FB groups. I’ve seen variations on earlier models with higher risers and re-routing, so it might be different according to model, if only slightly. 👍

I was wondering if this made the bike more stable at speeds above 70 mph? My bike is fine until I hit 70 then the front end feels not so planted. In videos I’ve watched of people doing top speed runs it seems that it’s not just my 690 but others too. I’ve also noticed that in those videos they aren’t running a stabilizer either. Thanks for you time
@CodgerBiker2 жыл бұрын
Well it is almost infinitely adjustable. I sometimes take the bike on long runs of UK motorway, averaging 70mph, or so, and it feels good to me. 👍
@mikef33002 жыл бұрын
@@CodgerBiker That’s good to hear. I didn’t want to invest the money into the stabilizer if there was no chance of it working but it seems like it’s worth giving it a shot. Thanks for the quick reply

Any special tools needed? I see a long/large allen key/socket at 5:38 you say is "45mm I believe", do you have the actual size/brand of it? Looks like a long reach 10mm allen to me, not sure where the 45mm fits in? Hate to get into a project and not have the correct tool(s), I do have most "normal" size allens and torx..
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
Just basic tools from memory, socket set, Allen keys. It won't be 45mm that's huge (45nm is the torque setting for the riser bolts I believe)
@gradocchio Жыл бұрын
@@CodgerBiker thank you, don't have any "long reach" allens but i'm sure I can find them online easily enough. May I ask how the windscreen performs? Would an add-on to the top be beneficial or is it sufficient as-is?

I cover everything here: kzfaq.info/sun/PLeqBZ9Sn4T5v0B4GcWmSFBTAZPns3nrxE You get buffetted a little. I tried an add on, didn’t really help. But it’s far better than the other options and you get GOS mount etc. I would not go back👍

why have you raised the forks up through the top triple clamp?

Super cool. That's a pretty ridiculous law/rule about the steering lock though. Sorry you're stuck with that nonsense. Sweet bike
@CodgerBiker2 ай бұрын
Cheers. Yes it's a pretty dumb rule. Most thieves just kick the bars to break it. But I solved it in part 2. Best bike KTM ever built imho. 👍 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qspdrbOX0sq2YI0.htmlsi=TadQdELlsgjh4wnv

Looking at the Rade garage add for the K5 fairing kit they state "For KTM 690 model years 2019-22 our K5 fairing kit (is this what is on your bike?) also includes the mount for the Scotts steering damper. So if you have any, you only bolt it on and you ride." Is this for a new revision or are the not correct?
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
Mine is the K4 fairing. But the K5 also is designed to take a Scotts damper if you have one. There is no difference in the mount for both - Rade built it. They expect you also to fit their extra tank. As I did not need that I made a slight change to my install so that the plastics still fit and they steering lock would work also. See the vids. 👍
@gradocchio Жыл бұрын
@@CodgerBiker I see where I went wrong, when you installed the K4 fairing you did not install all of the other bits for the Scott damper at the time, but the K4 kit did come with them. Assume the K5 will also, just need to ascertain it will fit the 2023 Rnduro R. I won't install an extra tank either, from the looks of it you could use the sanding barrel (~10mm?) that comes with most Dremel kits to create nice round cut-outs for the pin mounts in the plastic cover next time. Thank you Codger (from another "Codger" getting back off-road after MANY years of absence! Think Bultaco Alpina/Matador time.. 😁
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
No problem. Yes I fitted the Scotts some weeks later. I did not have one, but having the facility nagged away, so I bit the bullet. It’s almost 2 years since so my memory is fading. I am sure it will all be the same no matter the year, or the K4/K5. The K5 is improved, but I haven’t felt the need to change to carbon fibre. They do not say how to fit the damper without their tank, so I figured it out. Just a small amount of trimming of the plastic. I used a dremmel cutting disk, but anything will do. I haven’t changed it, it’s been fine. If you want to use the steering lock see part 2. You can either get the shorter arm as I did, or just angle grind the end off of it, same result. Bultaco yes! But I could only afford old CZ trail bikes in those days. Good luck 👍

Nice vid, thinking of getting the BRP vibe damper and steering damper combo for my 701 :). Also… How are insurers supposed to know if your steering lock was on or not if your bike is stolen? 😅
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
I guess they ask you, then try and prove it wasn't, or am I cynical? 👍
@OSR_1 Жыл бұрын
@@CodgerBiker probably, but if the bike is missing the bike is missing 😆 wouldn’t worry too much about it personally. Steering locks on bikes are laughable at best as they can be broken with a minimal amount of force. Never rely on it and always use a disc lock or something stronger 👍🏽👍🏽
@OSR_1 Жыл бұрын
I still put mine on though Ofcourse, but never realised it’s an insurance requirement 😆 just find it funny as they’d never know if it was on or not
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if all companies say that, just the one I was with had it all over the policy. More than that though I like things to work as they should. I agree, it is a flimsy 'security' device. 👍
@OSR_1 Жыл бұрын
@@CodgerBiker ah ok gotcha, yeah makes sense and liked your creative solution to fixing it :). Yep agree there! Wasn’t a dig, I just laugh at some of the things insurance companies specify sometimes 👍🏽

Considering buying one of these - is it worth it, does it reduce wobble/vibrations? Or would you suggest I keep as is?
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
They are expensive. BUT you'll only know if you need one once a tank slapper is underway. Depends on your riding. There are cheaper options. All in all I think a damper is essential on most bikes - just my opinion 👍

@@CodgerBiker I've had my 2020 690 for a few months and have noticed that the front end feels a bit loose and wobbly on gravel roads above 50 mph. I've tried three different front tires but the issue remains. It's looking like a damper is needed to fix this. Have you noticed a big improvement in stability offroad at high speed?
@CodgerBiker2 жыл бұрын
I've always liked dampers. I have found the bike rides straight without me thinking about it. Probably the best compliment for any damper, it just works 👍
