This is a great value-for-money bike! A direct competitor, and quite a good alternative to the Honda CB500F! Fuel consumption at the end was a whopping 4.3L /100kms.
And that is with ALL that fullthrottle crazyness, 20kms done at 140kph+m and a machine in its break-in phase!

Thanks Cager, nice review :) I own a 2014 390 & it does great in the mountains i gotta say. Been riding in the Himalayas, over 5000 m and it makes no difference to the performance. Plus it's made in India so it's a lot cheaper here. Quick question: Which would you say is the scarier bike to ride - The Ninja ZX-14R or the Super Duke?

Nice review and looks like a good bike. How bad are the vibrations though? I've had a bad experience with a single cylinder engine, where you couldn't see a thing in the mirrors at certain revs and it felt awfull aswell. And the fuel consumption seems really high for such a small bike, over 6l/100km, really?

Cager I am currently on my L (in Australia) so I my option for bikes are limited, right now I am torn between Duke 390 vs CBR500R as they are priced similarly and their power out put are also very similar. Which one would you prefer and are any of those good beginner's bike? I am also looking at MT-07 and how does that compare?

Nice job on this one, I like the lite weight of it, but the paint & stickers whatever they all are, seem a little busy for my taste, but that could be worked on. They say the Metzeler tires are much improved over the smaller 125 bikes, and you proved it by not knowing the difference. lol The road with the hairpin turn, or that goes back on itself in the 2nd part, is called a switch back in many parts of the world, mainly because of semis trucks, just encase you wanted to know, but you may have already known.

Excellent video! I love your reviews. If you had to choose between the Duke 390 and Yamaha MT-07, which would you choose? I know their specs are quite different, but I expect them to be around the same price when and if the Duke is introduced in America.

MT07 hands down! The 390 has a cheaper look, smaller tires, one less break disc, a lot more vibrations, a lot less torque... The 390 I tested didnt' felt planted or steady at all! The MT07 is a whole different experience.

Again a superb review like always, however i have some serious questions , 1. i am planning to buy a ktm 390 in this month but i am real confused as to which one shall i buy, RC390 or duke390, i need a bike that can do touring around 1000kms (once in 6 months), track riding as well as a bike that cruises well in the city and on the highway at constant speeds. and the big deal is that i would buy the one that powerdrift suggests me, this much confused i am coz i love both these bikes a lot and have been saving funds to get one since a long long time. please suggest me a wise choice. (i am avg built 5'8") 2. Also are the new changes in 2015 390duke implied exactly the same on 2015 RC390 as well ? please help me with these 2 Q's .

If you plan on 1000km trips you would be ill advised to do so on either model KTM. They're both very hard seats, the RC being the thinner and worse off the two. Track days and city and touring I would recommend the Yamaha R3. Just as good on track as the RC390 but a much better distance runner. Reviews have started the initial setup of the suspension is a bit soft, which is what you need at high speed. They also say it has the best seat. I sat on one and I'm 6'2", 175#, and I could move a very long distance front to back on the Yamaha seat. Very comfy. The Yamaha should be less expensive too?

Worstname evar Definitely! I've only been riding for a bit more than a year and this is my first naked bike, having only ridden a lightweight cruiser. The 390 is actually REALLY light so it's easy to correct if you get into a tough spot. Also the seating is in a standard position - not too far back like a supersport or anything. Here in Australia this bike falls under the LAMS restrictions, which basically means its power to weight ratio is suitable for beginners.
@dodgeskitz87
@dodgeskitz87 10 жыл бұрын
The only problem with the 390 is hot starting. Being a new rider it is an unpleasant thought of stalling at a traffic light and the bike would take a few tries to start.. Maybe that will be fixed in the next generation of the bike, or maybe the mt-25 will come out by then.? Need more sub600cc naked bikes!

Cager, I'm going to India for a few months to visit in-laws and the KTM Duke 390 is on my list of possible bikes. My main ride is the NC700X. I'll almost surely be taking a pillion (wife or older kids) with me on the bike at times. How does the pillion seat on the Duke 390 compare to the pillion seat on the NC700X?
@martalli
@martalli 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. ..We tried out the pillion seat on a Duke 690 in St Louis and my son agreed about the NC700X seat being uncomfortable, although we have done 60 mile trips on it. The 690 seat seemed small, and the 390 (not yet in the US) is probably only smaller, if just a little smaller. We might end up going with a Royal Enfield. Although it's an archaic design, the Bullet is upright and should carry two without problems. .. Have you ridden a RE Bullet yet?

Acho que a melhor opção na casa dos 5500 euros continua a ser a mt-07, para mim é, sem dúvida, a mota com melhor qualidade-preço e a mais entusiasmante
@antoniocarlosacsjr7128
@antoniocarlosacsjr7128 3 жыл бұрын

For the same price (at least here in Portugal) the Yama MT07 is a far far better bang for the buck. It's a no brainer!! The diffenrence between steadyness without hands on the Z1000Sx and on this (or any other bike) is due to unbalanced tires/wheels. That's why they have weights. Has nothing to do with the bike... Make sure they balance your wheels when buyin new tires.

6 of our fellow Duke 390 owners have suffered accidents due to the brittle lightweight wheels on this thing. It is a sureshot death machine if you encounter a sudden hump or pothole at even lower speeds than 60km. Company refuses to acknowledge the brittle wheels. You can google "390 duke wheel crack" and see the images. The Indian manufacturer has surely cut costs on components to keep price low. Also this thing stalls on downshifts almost every day on highway cruising.

It is for sure, but check out other bikes at the dealerships, sit on them so you can be flat footed, see how the controls, weight, handle bars etc. and how everything feels to you, because there is nothing worse than buying a bike and later wishing you'd bought something else.Good luck! CagerOnTwoWheels I knew this short dude Robert that stacked up a used bike on test ride. Dealership made him pay for all repairs. He looked like street pizza for weeks. Never said what he did to wreck, and got lucky they didn't make him buy the bike. He tried to move up from scooters to something to big for him. He said his feet weren't flat on the ground on the bike he crashed on. I've ridden since 88, and a lot of bikes later, its all about the fit for me. Miss the old Ninja 600R though. Too old for super bikes now, but love my DR400 and these Dukes.

I must disagree on the wind part. I'm 1.86m tall, and above 110 km/h the wind gets blasted right at your torso and shoulders, and you have to hold on tight, making it quite hard to ride on the freeways. But besides that, it's an amazing bike and I really like mine, although the wind issue is making me consider getting a different bike fairly soon.

what you could do to clean up the back end would be to make a license plate bracket that bolts onto the swingarm that holds the plate behind the tire and then get rid of that ungodly fender. Problem SOLVED From what I hear KTM is one of a few companies that if you bring the bike back from a test drive and you have scraped up pegs, they will laugh and praise you for riding their bike the way it is intended to be ridden. Don't know if that's true tho.
