The Snake River dams do not provide flood control. They were built as "run of river" dams, meaning they store minimal water behind them, and have little to no room for the water level to fluctuate. So, if there is a flooding event, the water will still have to go through the spillway or powerhouse, and places will still be flooded. That is why Congress did not authorize these dams for the purpose of flood control.

Removing the dams will cause hundreds of thousands to be without power in the middle of our harsh PNW winters guaranteed.

@@peterdorn5799 Typical response from a leftist solar denier: ignore my first point and pull out random, unsighted studies which are probably bought and paid for just like most politicians, entertainers, and scientists. You didn’t address the fact that in the winter, there are long periods of inversion where cold air doesn’t move, and the solar output is too weak to keep up with demand. As we saw in Texas, the first winter without reliable hydroelectric or hydrocarbon electricity will kill hundreds, if not thousands in the PNW. And of course as a leftist solar denier, you probably are able to afford paying more for electricity because you are statistically an economical elitist who embraces socialism and at the same time doesn’t care if poor peasants can heat their homes, or feed themselves! 🤦🏻‍♂️

The Columbia once had the largest salmon runs in the world now many of the fish runs there are extinct or barely hanging on. If removing the dams will help them recover, I don't even see why there is a debate? Whatever value the dams provide can be replaced. The salmon can't.

I'm for de-constructing the dams on the LSR. It will revive the potential of these magnificent fish to reoccupy their ancient home sites within the Snake/Salmon and Clearwater watersheds.

No evidence dam removal will have any impact...it is all hopeium...Imagine they tear them down, we have an energy crisis and salmon don't come back. find a compromise that stretch of the river was always slow moving and warm...believe me I used to swim in it when they were building them.

Removing dams have a down side too. I'm a fisherman, so I'm leaning toward dam removal but is there anything that will get screwed up by removing 4 dams ? That is a lot of water to release after being controlled for so long. So far, I see more good than bad. We would get fish recovery, more opportunities to fish, a boost to the local economies in the area, more food for Orca whales when all those fish grow big in the ocean. I cannot see the negative impacts here open to discussion though

These ideas might help. Fish Runs saving Dams and Water Shortages Update 7/4/2021 Do you have a nearby moving river or stream? You can now place a slow speed water generator on the bottom of the stream and make power 24 hours a day. The unit is called a Waterotor made in Canada. The Waterotors won't harm fish and can be scaled up to meet the needs of small towns or cities. Make the power miles away from the small town, sell the power to the power company than use the power to make water anywhere. Atmospheric water generators can make drinking water and irrigation water, and with a Waterotor, power can be made even in remote regions of the World. You just need moving water 3 to 4 miles an hour in streams, irrigation channels, fish ladders or even waste water outlet's. Garbage treatment plants can also use the power they make burning garbage to make water with atmospheric water generators and add storage tanks to supply small towns and cities. Adding Waterotors below dams can maximize electrical power made by any dam and replace power lost if the dam has a fish ladder or channel for fish to move up and down stream. A dam can be saved for flood control by adding these powered fish ladders and channels or notching the dam and putting in a flood gate to raise and lower the river during fish runs. Now people and fish can share the river. Note using the methane from sewage treatment plants or garbage landfills might be used to generate electricity for any water making projects. You might use your own City sewage system to make filtered irrigation water for lawns and gardens they have a system like that in my my small town. Note, what to make even more power? Then by covering fish ladders and channels with spaced solar panels decreases evaporation of the water and increases the efficiency of the solar panels. A now overdue idea, dealing with forest fires. You build and place atmospheric water generators and 100,000 to 5,000,000 gallon water tanks on hilltops to protect your town. You cover the tanks with solar panels and add wind turbines to make power anywhere. You sell the power, drinking water and irrigation water, then by adding irrigation pipes down the hillsides, you can create fire lines that lasts up to 24 hours. You make these fire lines by adding TetraKO, by Earth Clean at a 4 to 6 percent solution to the water. Turn on these stand alone units remotely, your fire trucks can work elsewhere or resupply themselves with needed water. Fire protection, drinking water, irrigation water and stand alone power for any city or town in need. Here again, Waterotor generators could be used to generate power for the hilltop water making units. These ideas all can be done today, just search KZfaq, and then tell someone.

Choices: Save the salmon and the Snake River, or allow the snake river to die... Seems to be a no brainer decision, but of course there are those who continue to believe the big lie about the value of dams in that they produce cheap energy and human recreation. People, and the health of the environment are more important, therefore I say it's about time we make the right decision and save the Snake for the good of all the living creatures that inhabit this land...

You decide if you want E power for homes and cars or salmon for Indians. Hydro power is essential for electric use and clean energy. Wind mills, and solar panels made in China are ruining out state. Make a choice ya only get one shot. 4 hydro dams for everyone or Indian salmon.

You know what's not Christian? Decimating the beautiful world that God built for us. The extinction of salmon would create a ripple effect of devastation on the ecosystem. We were made to live in balance with nature, not to do with it as we pleased with no regard for consequences. Currently we live hugely out of balance with the natural world, and we are already facing tremendous consequences which will only grow with time. This is what happens when you let your ego tell you that humans are the only life that matters. If you want to be a good Christian, drop the ego and learn to value harmonious existence with nature.
