Traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore by bus (Transtar) is an exciting journey that takes you through some of Malaysia's beautiful landscapes and bustling cities. The route is approximately 350 kilometers long and can be easily covered by bus, which is a popular and affordable mode of transportation. This route does include crossing through both Malaysia and Singapore borders/ immigration. Prior to traveling we had heard many horror stories of other travelers being left at the Singapore border and were a bit leary of taking this journey. So in this video, we will cover all the steps we took to make this crossing as easy and seamless as possible. Thanks for watching!!

Your land crossing seems quite smooth and uneventful (Brian’s slight hiccup notwithstanding 😊). Great info on taking the bus. I never took the bus or train to try to enter Singapore from Malaysia. I've always flown as flights don't cost that much. I'm usually traveling between either Penang and Singapore or Penang to KL and then some days later from KL to Singapore. One time, although having bought a plane ticket between Penang and KL, I decided that I didn't want to fly due to not wanting to pay the overweight baggage amount which is expensive in S.E. Asia. So, on that trip, I had the son of my private driver in Penang drive me to KL and drop me off at the front door of my hotel on Bukit Bintang. It took around 3-3.5 hours including a quick stop along the way at a roadside place that had restrooms and a food court. But, from KL to Singapore, I flew as usual as not to possibly be having to deal with strong smoke or perfume smells on a bus and also problems crossing the border. As for your hotel room in Singapore, I don't know what hotel that was, but I've never seen a room that small in any place I've stayed in Singapore including the YMCA International House at 1, Orchard Road next to the Dhoby Gaut MRT station. I've stayed at hotels from 1 star to 5 stars and everything in between. I've stayed at the Y as much as I've stayed at 4 and 5 stars. The Y is nice and there are various Ys throughout the region. Greetings from Los Angeles

Hi! The bus from Penang to KL was the best way to go for sure. We typically always choose a bus or train if similar pricing as they bring you right into town saving a typically pretty high Uber/taxi ride to get you your Airbnb/hotel. Not always the case but I try to figure it out best we can before making the leap of which way to travel. Thanks for watching ☺️

@@BrianandCarrie It's great that it worked out for you taking the bus and it's true that it puts one closer to town. For me and buses, I need to worry about possible perfume and cigarette smells due to allergies as I've been on some buses in other countries where the driver has smoked on the bus. At least on planes, I get where I need to go fast. Greetings from Los Angeles

"not much of an adventure" However, valuable info nonetheless. Like you, we prefer to avoid air travel as much as possible for all the reasons you mention. It's also supposedly more green. We really enjoy bus travel and do it whenever we can. Not too long ago we took a bus from KL to Penang and went with Aeroline. It was great. Great seats, personal Tvs with movies, food, drinks, pillows and blankets. Great service. It was around $13 USD a ticket. I believe they go to Singapore as well. We have never really had a problem with any of our bus trips TBH. That immigration snafu is a concern so thanks for the heads up. I have heard that if you take the train it goes more smoothly. However, I have no direct experience with this so take it with a grain of salt. I hope you enjoy Singapore. We will get there eventually, but probably not more than a few days stay due to the high costs. Safe travels guys.

We had a great experience from Penang to KL as well. Can't call this a bad experience but any means, just a stressful at the border, and that was on a very quiet day. From my research the train takes you near the border then you catch a bus to cross and then another bus to get you the train to get into Singapore. Sounded like so many steps that we could of had more issues. I believe there is a direct train in the works but not sure on that one. Thanks so much for watching 😊

Hi, I'm a new subscriber, great videos, nice to see someone doing this in my age range! So my question is; Now that you are not working, and on a somewhat limited budget, what do you do all day? I mean when we travel we like to take day trips, tours, etc and this all costs money. You seem to keep your budget very low. I realize it's different when you are living, not vacationing somewhere.

Hi Brian and Carrie. I just love your videos. Very pragmatic. I live in California and went to Canada for a couple of months last summer when they opened up. I drove so didn't have to worry about transport fees of any kind other than my own. Later did get a little cash just in case, but knew I could just use plastic with virtually everything there. So my question is, how do you get cash in the country you will be traveling to? Have been warned not to use the ATM machines at the airport, and wait until you could get to one at a bank or similar institution. Not all countries take plastic, so getting cash upon landing creates questions for me. I saw you went into Singapore with no cash. And what do you do with left over cash from the country you're leaving? By the way, in route to Canada I stopped at your home town, can't remember why now. Maybe to eat something and ended up at the farmer's market. Very nice. Walked around a little in that area and enjoyed my brief stay. In fact, when I got back home mentioned to my girlfriend it would be a nice option to relocate to. Thanks so much for all your great videos. They are very resourceful.

Hi, Paul! We use plastic 90% of the time. Every county that we have been to takes Visa. We use cash at the small street markets for food and beer along the way. The ATM are safe but we usually use the ones attached to a bank. So cool that you stopped off in Bellingham!! We love our hometown so much that we shot a video that we will release this upcoming Saturday. You can see everything that you missed!! Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻

we alway travel with wet wipes, always carry USD cash, you can use it anywhere to change into local currency, or in an emergency most will accept it, make sure to bring small bills, 100's and 50's can be difficult to use in emergencies, any tears or blemishes with your USD will most likely get rejected, carefully check all USD at source, brand new bills are best (you probably know this already)

I am the organizer when my husband and I travel and never seem to feel as confident as you look. Some times I can't sleep the night before wondering if I booked the right bus or if we will get to the ferry on-time ect... Traveling is amazing but I do feel stressed at times. Do you?
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
Hi Thera! Thank you 😊. I would say I've always been a planner, but also can relate to the worrying the night before trips. After traveling full time now going on two years, you build a whole different level of confidence and also worry much less. We've found a very relaxed feeling that comes with doing what we are doing compared to a vacation that could totally be ruined by a cancelled or missed flight. Now we just roll with it knowing we will get where we need to go even if we have to catch a later bus or flight. Thanks so much for watching ❤️

Hello there. Welcome to Singapore. Pity that Brian was diverted to the counter due to problem at the self-service. My own experience is that both of you should do your own entry visa, even with online app. This is to avoid just this kind of problem. You never know when the system might not handle. The other thing is always have on hand some small amount of local currency when travelling, you never know when you might need it, regardless of the number of credit/charge cards you may have. Agreed. In either Jan 2018 or Jan 2019, my KL Malaysian friend and wife wanted me to come with them to an area near Johor to visit their family members. Then, they suggested that I just cross the border into Singapore from Johor, but I didn't want to do that, so I flew from KL to Singapore as I usually do. My flights home are from Singapore. The Johor border crossing is reportedly the busiest in the world with an estimated 350,000 daily crossings. In Jan 2020, my Malaysian friend flew from KL to Singapore to see me for a day and then flew home to KL on the same day. That year, he and wife weren't able to meet me in Penang and I didn't want to add KL onto my itinerary. Greetings from Los Angeles

Does texting still work to your us phone or ?
@BrianandCarrie

Hi! Yes, we still get texts. Sign up for Google voice and either get a new phone number or port your number. Then you will always be able to text to that same number no matter what SIM card you put in.
