Not sure about Japan or other languages, but typical openings or closings in English are technically optional, however ignoring/not responding to their opening is considered a negative face threat, especially if the interlocutors share a relationship of some intimacy

I would say so far for me probably the fourth cutest romance anime. And the top three are really hard to put in order The Dangers in my Heart, Komi Can’t Communicate, and My Dress Up Darling! And that’s just Anime in the last 3 years… go further back than that and we have a mess!!!
