The only reason that your chisel plow works so well is because you have a great helper. Great job.

Hey Frank,Great set-up. Wish I had a plough like this. Our little tractor, a 77 Massey 1655, would have no trouble dragging that through the soil. It has huge torque even with just 16hp. We have been using a 16 disk harrow to do the initial tear-up followed by a fine tilling via an equally old walk-behind tiller.A cultivator like this would make for faster passes before the tiller came into play I think. Very nice to see that your son too is engaged in the work you like to do. Keep him involved as best as you can. Good for him, good for all.

That is cool. Even better you did it yourself. Seems like no one does that anymore they all have the "I'll just go buy one" attitude. Great job!!!

Looks like it works great.. Could you cultivate a couple rows with it by spacing the shanks different.

Do you think the chisel plow did a better job on ur garden soil than a moldboard plow?

I would think that using it as deep as possible in the fall on a diagonal pattern and then again in the spring that this can easily replace a moldboard plow. Probably doing a better job as well in preventing pan development.
@namraj1
@namraj1 10 жыл бұрын
The depth is limited by the HP of the tractor. I have since mounted this on a larger tractor, I am able to go deeper and yes it does a good job of breaking up the subsoil.

I like it...! On the 2x2 what thickness did you use? Will it blast thru the weeds too? I'm more in need of a ripper type...but curious how yours worked out. What did the tines set you back and have any broken off yet...?
@namraj1
@namraj1 5 жыл бұрын
I sold it several years ago so I am not sure how to answer you questions on thickness. Maybe 1/4 inch? I used this several times a year and never broke the tines. I even used it on a 40 hsp tractor for a while. With that tractor I was able to go much deeper.

Erri, I am not sure, it is a 3 cylinder 17 hps diesel. Mine is a hydro-static. If it were a manual transmission it would have a little more to the draw-bar. It is good for what I need it to do.

Frank it looks like it works good.I started buying parts to make the same one as I only have an 18hp hydro tractor. Frank I don't have a drawbar hitch and wondering if maybe sometime if you have a moment could give me height and width of the vertical pin bars. and maybe how far apart the 2x2 are. THANK YOU

How deep can you go, and is that a 2 wheel drive model?
@namraj1
@namraj1 5 жыл бұрын
Brett, when it was attached to the Kubota maybe 6 to 8 inches. I had a larger tractor that I also used it on and could go deeper. The kubota was all wheel drive.

How thick is the tubing?
@namraj1
@namraj1 7 жыл бұрын
It was two inch square tubing. Decide what shanks you are going to use, measure the brackets used to fasten them to the frame. This will tell you what size of tubing you should use.

How much for shanks if you don't mind
@BornRandy62
@BornRandy62 12 жыл бұрын
spring tool, crust buster, field cultivator. Chisel plow is usually deep shanks that are pulled thru the ground at depths of 12 to 18 inches. This works great tho. Cultivators usually work better pulled quicker along the ground to leave a finer surface. Discs need to be pulled slowly.
@offgridmangogrower
@offgridmangogrower 5 жыл бұрын
Like your comment about a disk being pulled slowly. What implement would you use in mildly rocky material to clear weeds and light brush between tree rows? The spring tooth has some forgiveness with rocks. Haven't bought the piece yet.

Who told you that discs need to be pulled slow. If you're using horses. discs mix the soil at higher speeds 3-4 mph.
