Javed Sahab is an accomplished person but his analysis is shallow. You cannot really discuss this couplet of Ghalib without discussing Ibn Arabi's wahadatul-wajood. But Javed Sahab will not go there because he is busy trying to make a point about semitic religions.

Well-said. Agreed. The hero seems misguided in his stream-of-consciousness (almost-drunken) musings. Humans can never be parallel to Almighty who made us out of His magnanimity. Who do mere humans think we are? Where do we think we get our faculties from? Zoroastrians understood this concept, too-and so did multitudes of non-Semitic people, too.

" Na Hota Main To Kya Hota " to my understanding can be of two different meanings. First one is that if I had not come to this life it won't make any difference to this world. Second meaning is that poet is wondering what would be it like if I was missing out from this world, how the things would go . It depends how you read the second line of this verse, if you give a little pause before " Kya Hota" it would differ in meaning than reading it without a pause. For a pause before Kya Hota the first explanation fits well and for reading without pause the second one. Try reading it yourself with and without pause before Kya Javed Sahab understanding about ' Rakh " and Kuraidna are very misleading. Rakh in Urdu poetry always reflects when all the desires are burnt without completion and Kuraidna is like wondering what is left over after the desires and wishes are un accomplished.

Javed Sahab understanding about ' Rakh " and Kuraidna are very misleading. Rakh in Urdu poetry always reflects when all the desires are burnt without completion and Kuraidna is like wondering what is left over after the desires and wishes are un accomplished.

I find Javed Akhtar to be quite liberal in rendering about intellectual facilities of India. I feel that he is aware that some think he is ‘know it all’ on many matters of national interest even though in reality his qualifications and acumen to be considered a ‘known-it all’ in terms of education and exposure to real political or business or security of India are quite questionable or negligible to be precise. It is mainly media proposition to take his view promote it, invite him to venues. It’s strange choice by media for he is a merely in entertainment business and his activism for the ‘people of India’ may be as fancy and false as his romantic throw of words, his actors dressing up with paint on face, and displaying emotions on screen lived characters & stories of falsehood. Just the business of entertainment guys no need to get offended. 😊 Quite far starched and not far sighted this man appears just need to have a deeper look not hard to figure.
