In this video, I’ll show you how to make a kumihimo bracelet using the Japanese braiding technique. This technique requires a foam disk (linked below), but it is relatively easy to make one out of cardboard (also linked below). If your bracelet doesn’t look as great as you intended, I sell custom sets on my Etsy!

Suggestion if you need to take a break: bring your top string down but don't bring the bottom one up. This way you'll know exactly where you left off and won't mess up your pattern if you're using more than one colour.

I have found that using a kumihimo weight significantly improves the finished look of a kumihimo. It provides even tension so the braid looks a lot more consistent and neat. Although not necessary, it is nice to have when you make a lot of them lol

Before I bought an actual kumihimo weight, I used a very large Nut that I tied my strings to… it worked quite well…

@@AlexInnovations go to www.friendship-bracelets.net and on the search bar type in k752 it’s a 40 strand kumihimo pattern that reads I ❤️U but you will need to make an 80 slot kumihimo disk in order to make this pattern, hope you like the pattern.

If I were to make a choker necklace how long would each of the strings be?
@AlexInnovations
@AlexInnovations 3 жыл бұрын
hmm... this one was about 1m before folding in half for a 6” bracelet.. chokers are typically 12”, so figure 2m and then fold in half ;)

Rule of thumb is to cut your threads three times longer than you want your finished braid to be. Six times if you're doubling them up like in the video.
