In 1968 I worked for the first time with Karate-Do in the literature by Masatoshi Nakayama. Later as a student in the 1970 years at the University of Munich, I had the opportunity a few years Shotokan Karate training. Later I dealt mainly with a simple and effective self-defense, I still train today.. I must say that my Karate has helped it in basic training very wide. Now at an advanced age, I have benefited a lot.

Excellent, effective techniques. Classical shotokan strikes. That Sensei it's real good instructor. Wish I spoke German to understand what he was saying. Attacks are quick and direct. Towards end he was emphasizing tai sabaki which is shifting. I trained for years in the art and it is not for wimps. Watch videos of Sensei Enoeda and Kanazawa to see the grace and power of shotokan.

Yes it is a little robotic, but you get someone with one of those punches and it is over. I used to do Shotokan a few years ago, now I do Mix Martial Arts. Karate helped me to have powerful kicks and punches. You can add kickboxing and practice sparring with a good teacher, and you will get better. Always keep your hands up to cover your face even when kicking, watch the opponents shoulders to see what they are going to do, practice blocking, and blocking plus counter a lot. when you kick end with a punch...for example do fake front kick, then roundhouse (same leg) and double punch while your opponent is still blocking your round house.

Makes me laugh when people criticise karate. Its a proven art, yes some of the drills are a bit robotic agreed, but you would never fight like that in a street situation. Free fighting sparring would be similar to most other arts. The only negative thing I would say is the rear guarding hand is karate is to low leaving right side of head vulnerable. I have done Thai boxing, boxing, kick boxing, judo and kung fu over a 20 year period on and off. All the arts have positive and negative aspects about them. You only gave to look at Lyoto Machida in UFC to see his roots are karate and he is very effective as it is such a long range fighting system. Of course he has trained other arts but in my opinion karate is a good art along with all the others. I guess its the person training them that makes the difference. Ouss

+Carlo Peroni hey there mate . reason ppl make fun of karate is because the most common karate style is kyokoshin which is dulled very bad to fit sport style . they barely have guard and relay on surprise roundhouse kicks, also no hits over the chest . so the net is full of kyokoshin trainees getting they are ass kick all over the place especially by any kung fu style . thats the reason most ppl make fun of karates . but rly there are karate styles like shotokan which are very good but they are left unnoticed because are not that popular

karate is a totally incomplete martial art, if you are not hitting another persons head you are doing something wrong simple as that.. boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, wushu all superior to karate because you actually fighting the other person. and yes i have been doing kickboxing for 5 years including competitions.

Bruce Lee was a fighter. What he was saying is don't allow the martial art to be more art than martial. Use what's effective. As a competition fighter you miss the point of traditional martial arts. The purpose of self defense is not to fight. Fighting suggests that both parties have an equal chance. Self defense is about taking your opponent out, period!! He/she has no chance. There is no 'fight'. Most traditional karate technique are designed to finish not to bounce about on mats and score points.

"Most traditional karate technique are designed to finish not to bounce about on mats and score points." That is a 100% true statement, the very essence of the traditional way of doing karate is to kill with one blow. The combo moves you would tend to see karateka's use in free sparring and UFC is pretty much solely for competition, that is NOT how karate is to be applied in a real life violent situation. ~ Zak Burke 2nd Dan Black Belt Shotokan Karate

ahahahaah ''bounce on the mat'' hahaahaha i agree to an extend, you mean the excessive bouncing like rabbits bouncing, because in every competetive sport, the one who wins mostly is the one who is agile on his feet, yes bouncing lightly on the balls of your feet without leaving the ground, that's the correct way as for scoring that's the evolution of sport and its good, and its what brought karate into olympics. the trainning you see in the video is trainned in most karate that also does sports karate, doesn't change SHIT, the moves here we see are super robotic like the fuck this is never goind to happen in a real match fight, when stamina drops and you gasp for air, none of this shit will apply, few and very few most effective moves will be available in your game, all those fancy micro details you see the teacher shows is just to expand the game you have, try to do some of these moves in a real match that has scoring, ye you won't do shit, most of you idiots never fought a karateka that does point sparring, you won't see him coming and most of your slow as fuck moves will be seen from miles and easy to evade. so keep saying shit about martial arts that have evolved into something much more interesting than pure brutal crap. to knock someone out you don't need lots of ''badass'' looking shit, you can knock people out with just 1 kizami zuki period. now go back re educate your stupid black belts.

One hard and speedy mawashi geri on the head. You can practice whatever you want (mma, Muay thai...). If you receive this directly, you're in the floor. That's the same effect with any other martial arts and rude sports. First there's the basic movements, then you apply them as hard and quick as you can. Karate is equally lethal in a high level as any other martial art. Thanks to any constructive comment.
