For most shafts smaller than 3" in diameter, I like to use splines. If you don't have the money to do splines on bigger shafts, I like to drill into the bar stock axially and then insert round keys. It's easier than milling a square slot and cheaper than hobbing/forming involute splines.

A four-stroke gas engine having a cylinder of 250 mm diameter and stroke 450 mm has a volumetric efficiency of 80%, ratio of air to gas is 8:1, and calorific value of gas is 20 MJ/m at NTP. Find the heat supplied to the engine per working cycle. If the compression ratio is 6, what is the heating value of the mixture per working stroke per m of total cylinder volume? Note: NTP (Normal temperature and pressure)
