How many can you identify in this video? 🤓
We Indians love our Dals & quite often many of us gets confused about the names of these #Dals. We then call them by colour or the size or by the name of the dish, like dal makhni wali dal or yellow Choti wali dal ;-) So here are the 21 most used dals in the Indian home kitchen that you can now identify with some simple tips. #Lentils #Dal #DalNamesEnglishtoHindi #KKitchen #KunalKapurRecipes
Important Terminology to Remember:
Sabut means Whole
Dhuli means Washed i.e.Without Skin
Chilka means With Skin
Tooti means Split (from the centre into two)
Generally, a dal referred to with chilka is taken as the dal is split with skin on.

Kala channa is high in protein and is consumed in various forms in Indian cuisine. Best examples are Kala channa curry, sattu and besan.

We also have a brown lentil here in Germany, that our region thought they lost after all the farmers stopped growing it because it was not profitable anymore, called "Alb-Leisa". We imported normal brown lentils instead.. But with that the original dal for our "Linsen und Spätzle", which, I would say, is our german version of a Dal Makhni plus our southwest german eggbased pasta, was lost, and tasted not like original when it was invented.. After decades, we found it again, in some russian seed shelter.. So we could grew it again.. Now, it is part of the recognized vegetables of the slow food movement. It was a very nice story about getting back to ingredient quality from just thinking cheap, and gave southwest germany back a part of its identity :) So, that was my anecdote about dal in Germany. Btw, great vlog, when its english its always easy to understand, so even a foreigner can do it.

Finally someone who explains it to me. I am really lucky that I found your channel. Can you please do one on spices. Spices' name are very confusing to me. No one in Mauritius has been able to explain them clearly in hindi. They know it in different languages and even invented some names that they only understand 😂. It is really hard to follow indian recipes without knowing the spices in hindi and their english version. Thanking you in advance.
