Yeeah, I have very good early memories of watching Bruce Lee movies and seeing James Hong play the sleazy, slightly cowardly guy on the villain's side who got beat up on by Bruce every single time. I have fond memories of his character being beaten up by an schoolgirl in elementary school of all things. Never in a million years would I have thought he'd be our favorite goose father. But I'm glad he is. And his influence on the franchise is something we'll all remember for years to come.

When Oogway explains Po why he was chosen to be a dragon warrior - this is the best moment in the trilogy. The story makes the full circle. Brilliant writing.

He was fat enough to absorb Tai Lung's shock move. He was a warrior in black and white, predicted to defeat the peacock emperor. *And* he was a descendant of the panda _ki_ users. And people thought Oogway was senile... 😅

Fun fact: Kai beat Tai Lung in the spirit realm. After he took Monkey and Viper's chi, you can see Tai Lung's face on one of those green amulets. The reason why he never used Tai Lung or Oogway's chi because, when he takes someone's chi, he gets stronger, and knowing how powerful these two are, Kai wanted to keep them on him and never use them in battle.

Fun fact, its implied that Kai never turned “evil” necessarily but just that Oogway turned good after meeting the Pandas. They were both Warlords leading a great army in China so it would be in their natural interests to take instead of learn and give. When Kai said that Oogway betrayed him, he actually sorta did in that he betrayed their old Warlord type philosophy. Past that, he spiraled down the path of revenge for Oogway destroying his legacy and memory. Another cool thing is how Oogway said that he never tried to go back to the mortal realm. He probably easily could have gone back and prevented certain things from happening or stopping certain villains as Oogway is so strong, but he didn’t because of his philosophy of “there are no accidents” and just letting fate flow.

I think what makes Jack Black so inseparable from this role is his incredible energy and spirit. You look at behind the scenes footage from every project he's been in - School of Rock, Jumanji, Psychonauts 2, and more - and he always gives everything he's got. He's so humble, so kind. It's an unbelievable level of humanity everyone should aspire to. That's really why he's the perfect Po.

There is a theory that Kai isn't the one who turned evil, it's Oogway who turned good. Oogway said that they were ambitious warriors who led a great army. Kai listed his titles which sounded like villain titles "maker of widows" "beast of vengeance". Kai was defeated immediately after he started stealing chi so he had to earn those names before that. This kinda makes kai's attitude towards Oogway make more sense because technically Oogway did change and betray him.

I like Natalie, also. And, a few others. But, I always save yours for last. Thank you. (Oh... and Up. Man, Pixar ripped my heart out in the 1st 10 minutes, to the point where I wasn't able to enjoy the rest of the movie. At all. I can't even walk by a room when someone is watching it in the house without getting all weepy. Thanks, Pixar! Augh!)

So, they, actually, hint Kai's existence in the first movie. When Po wakes up in his room at the beginning and keeps trying to throw a throwing star at the wall, it's a picture of Kai drawn on the wall.

I think something a lot of reactors miss is that Oogway DID betray Kai, in a way. They weren’t monks or peaceful warriors defending the weak, they were WARLORDS commanding a huge conquering army. Much like Iroh Oogway wasn’t born a peaceful meditative man, or… tortoise, but rather had an awakening that lead to his enlightenment and a change of heart. Kai wasn’t the one who changed or turned “evil”, it is Oogway who changed and likely shocked Kai when he stood in the way of what Kai expected to be their next conquest.

@@chogames274 I'm mostly neutral towards the 4th film, but the main reasons I find people not liking it are: - Tai Lung not getting a proper redemption arc and/or a reunion with Shifu - The Furious Five not appearing throughout the film until the credits sequence - Kai and Shen doing almost nothing (at least Tai Lung got to spectacularly beat up Chameleon's army and had his voice actor return) - Chameleon having a terrible backstory (not being able to be taught kung-fu because she is short doesn't make sense when an insect, a red panda and a chicken are kung-fu masters) - Obsessive Awkwafina hate - The co-director wanted the movie to be more loyal to the original KFP trilogy and had ideas that the fanbase generally perceived as WAY BETTER than what we got, but had zero creative control. All of that was given to the main director, someone who didn't even want Chameleon to have ANY backstory whatsoever (there's a reddit post and video revealing all the shit that happened behind-the-scenes) All that said, I personally still enjoyed Tai Lung's return, there were nice references to previous scenes in the trilogy, and the soundtrack slaps HARD. It just seemed to not be up to people's expectations, and the fact that the other Dreamworks "movie" released just before it (Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate) was a complete disaster may have skewed audiences' perceptions to a more negative light

18:21 I cracked up at this part, too. I know I laughed like a total hyena, but you have a beautiful laugh and smile. I gotta say though: you’d think that the panda cubs would have more energy to run. At least they’re still adorable. By the way, four of Angelina Jolie’s kids got to voice some of the panda cubs in this film. There’s a theory that Master Oogway and General Kai were conquerors at one point. Master Oogway was injured after losing to an opposing force. Then after he was healed he chose to become a peacekeeper instead. That might have contributed to the friction between him and his former friend. Something I liked about this movie was Tigress’ character development. Back in the first movie, she didn’t initially get along with Po any more than Shifu did. By the end though, she had respected him. Then the second movie established their friendship. This movie further showed how much she values that. Po has that positive effect on others. He’s the cool guy anyone would like to be best friends with.

Having seen all 4 films, 2 is definitely the best. There's also the Kung Fu Panda Holiday special and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, so even when the films are over, you can still watch more Po!

Was watching a reaction to the first Kung Fu Panda movie from Cinebinge and George (born in China) talked about how the Chinese people love these movies cuz they do a better job expressing the tenets of Kung Fu than the local film makers. Interesting that this is a commercial move but you can see the film makers did their research. Good stuff.

I wish they could give Kai more backstory and lines, because it feels this character has a lot of untapped potential. Not a weak villian, but in this trilogy definitely the weakest although his theme is the best. Also that "thank you" from 29:40 is almost sweet, because even evil character, like Kai, wants to get recognition. Chapeu Bas for J.K. Simmons, he makes his best with his voice. I hope you will make reaction video for "The Wild Robot" trailer, i think it's one of the best trailers I've watched recently. Also I would love to see your "The Prince of Egypt" reaction.

The thing I find interesting is Kai's use of jade in his weaponry. From his chained swords made of jade to the Jombies. In Chinese mysticism and folklore, jade is a sacred holy material which emphasizes purity and creation. It's not meant for things that involve violence and destruction. To do so would be considered sacrilegious and wrong. In using it as a weapon, Kai's perversion of the material is a sign of how far gone he is and how utterly mad he's become. Much the same as his response to chi. He takes it and distorts it into something contemptible.

I really love this movie and really love the trilogy that they made from this series of films, the relationship between Ping and Li Poe's fathers was so well done, its really nice to watch a movie where they don't have to draw upon possible conflict to make 2 such cool characters to the hero's life like they did and the pairing of Cranston and Hong is just brilliant. i did watch the 4th film in theaters last week, ill be curious to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks for the reaction once again. always fun to explore these films with fresh new eyes, and enjoy them all over again from a different perspective and eyes.

In the KFP not cannon series we learn that shifu was part of the old furious 5 and oogway choose him and the rest pulled a tia lung to get more power. So he was technically the bragon warrior

When you think about it, i feel like this story is similar to uncle iroh with oogway. I don’t think oogway had a, “good” beginning especially while leading the army to take over china, but he was changed by the pandas & shown the truth of life. Hence why Kai feels he was betrayed when oogway changed..

It's not directly explained in the movie, but from context clues, I'm thinking Kai couldn't actually leave the Spirit Realm until he got the chi of the one who banished him there [Oogway] The chi stolen from other masters while trapped would've been mainly for gaining more oveall power (and a bigger army of Jade Zombies). It would also explain why Kai got so angry at Po for bringing him back, and didn't just immediately try leaving again... No matter how much power/chi he had gathered, would have to once again take it from the person that banished him to get back out.

Ah that was tons of fun, as expected. Tears of joy and sadness and laughter. If you want more Jackie Chan, he has a ridiculously large catalogue of his own you could dip into. I'm partial to The Big Brawl and Rumble in the Bronx but there are so many worth watching.

Just rewatched the trilogy in a go, masterpieces. KFP 4 is also a pretty good movie. I was lukewarm until the last third, which is when I got the goosebumps and was like "Oh damn this IS a KFP movie". Imo the movie could've done with another half hour or so, to hash out some plot lines, but I won't spoil much for you. It's a worthy addition to the KFP lore.

This one skewed to a slightly younger audience than the first two, but overall it was still really good. That just kinda drops it a little behind How to Train Your Dragon in terms of which is the best animated trilogy, for me personally.

Shifu is actually Chinese for “master” so Master Shifu’s name is actually Master Master. Also Oogway means tortoise.

In the first movie, right at the start you can see an ox type of creature with ninja stars stuck in them. I wonder if that was an early prototype for Kai. It fits so well together I'd almost be more surprised if they didn't have at least a basic outline for the entire trilogy from the start. That's my head cannon at least. Oogway is and always will be my favorite. Shen is the scariest villain by a good margin. I rate the movies together as one unit because they belong together. The trilogy is number 4 on my top animated movies of all time, for now. Encanto has the top spot so Disney can do good work, in my opinion.

Kai took Tai Lung's Chi, I think it's earlier in the movie where you can see him along with the rest of the masters that's why he's not in this movie

I mean yes, the 4th one isn't really bad but is almost completely unnecessary. And lacks may things that made the first 3 great, that's for sure.
