静寂の中、美しい女性の立ち姿が昔の武士の風貌が有り、ただ弓を射る音だけが響きます、侘び寂びにも似た和を響かせる、正に日本と言う感じが大好きです、外国の方が粛々と行なっているとは驚きと感動です。

東京武道館の弓道場懐かしい! 高校生の時弓道場部で弓道二段でした。東京の弓道大会は明治神宮の弓道場か東京武道館の弓道場でした。もうやってはいませんが黒帯ワールドでまさか弓道取り上げてくれるとは感謝感激です。

I have taken some lessons in different styles of martial arts, the last being Systema. I have often focused my mind, and thought of nothing else, while studying and practicing. Watching this demonstration, it seemed very peaceful to me and purposeful and I felt my internal state changing as I watched her explain about putting on the glove and thinking about what was to be her focus and goals during her upcoming training. I loved that and thought more of this thinking would be a good practice for me. Thank you. ❤

As a self-proclaimed Archery practitioner (I don’t officially practice the sport but do so in my own backyard), I view Kyudo practitioners as my cousins. While I’m not necessarily interested in getting into Kyudo, I do find their principles rather fascinating. I have a friend from Japan who practices Kyudo in her spare time. And she and I like to exchange knowledge in our respective archery backgrounds.

結婚する前に嫁さんが『暴力は嫌い』と言っていたので学生時代に柔道と少林寺拳法を習っていた事を内緒にしていたが、結婚して同居する時に嫁の荷物に弓道一式が有って驚いた。オレ『武道は素手だけど、飛び道具は卑怯じゃね？』嫁『道具を正しく使いこなしてこそ武道ですよ！射るとスッキリするしね！私から離れたら危ないから近くに居てね！』オレ『射たれる…』以後、嫁が弓を握らないように手を繋いでます…（泣）

こんなに道具なども特別な決められたものがあったのは驚きでした。この競技が、柔道などと同じように国際競技になったら凄いことだなと感じました。日本人ながら全く知らなかった。また、こういった伝統文化を残そうとする国の取組でしょうか。それにも驚き。何よりも、それを外国人のジェシカさんが行っていことに驚き。

Hello and thank you for watching. In Japan the kyudo population is about 140,000 people vs the archery (recurve) population of 11,400 people. In Japan there aren't many places to try or learn standard archery. Kyudo is a bit more accessible. I think kyudo chose me though, I saw the practice and I wanted to start😊

This is completely the opposite of the UK. There is little enough access to archery anyway, and kyudo - well, have a look at the UKKA site. 9 dojos in the whole country - and one in the Republic of Ireland. The nearest to me is about 2 and a half hours away. I am not a competitve archer (I am an ArcheryGB instructor, though) and would love to study kyudo, but unfortunately this is not possible at the moment!

弓道の達人が、的を射ろうとするのではなく心の静寂に努めれば自ずと矢を放つ。って言っていたと覚えていますが。だから所作が大切だと思います。そして、その所作の中に美があるのではないでしょうか。

やっぱ弓道の所作は美しい只ただ美しい。私は柔道部だったのでこんな美しさは皆無だった。空手の型も美しさと力強さがあるし柔道の形も一連の動作が美しいとは思うが私達には無かった。只ただきつ苦しく汗臭かったｗしっかし空手では型と書くのに何故に柔道は形なのか？不思議過ぎる。

I am interested in kyudo grading. You say you are san-dan which took you five years; how often do you train and how does the grading work?

You can grade every 6 months after passing the previous grade. Shodan and 2 Dan you don't have to hit but 3 Dan and above you need to hit the target. You only have two arrows. It's quite difficult😮

@@thomasda3482 I think people come in all shapes and sizes even within one race. Im a New Zealander and we are all different💕 I've lived in Japan for 20 years. I taught myself Japanese. After living and working here 5 years or so I could speak and understand pretty well nothing special is needed to learn Japanese just immersion.

I think its the same with all martial arts. This is the kyudo uniform. Next time I can talk about it if you like? We wear dougi on top and a hakama on the bottom😊
