From the way it sounds, Kurt knew something was up and that's why he escaped the rehab and went silent to get away from Courtney. I think they tried to make him overdose and stage it as a suicide in Rome and when he came to, he realized that there was something nefarious going on and wanted to get away asap.

Unfortunately this case can never be reopened simply because it would never amount to anything in legal terms thus it would never reach to a trial in a court of law since the body was cremated, the shotgun mishandled, the original "Rome" note destroyed and the greenhouse (crime scene) demolished shortly afterwards so that no new material forensic evidences could ever be found! The missing credit card mystery and the shredded double plane tickets are also unsolvable questions due to the Seattle police departament's negligence during the investigation and also to almost 25 years that have pasted since! Plus some people of interest in this case have already died (or simply vanished) like Pfaff or Hoke and also Det.Cameron or the medical examiner while others are still keeping silent! Of course there are aboundant circumstancial evidences of a conspiracy both to murder Kurt and also of a cover up by several different people: the discrepancies, inconsistancies, lies and contradictions are plain as day that even a blindman can see them! Nevertheless I think it would be highly revealing if the Seattle Police Departament interviewed formally Courtney Love, Michael Dewitt and his girlfriend Jennifer Hopper, Dylan Carlson, Allen Wrench, Eric Erlandson, Jackie Ferry, Tom Grant and Rosemary Carrol as persons of interest to the case: maybe one of them would slip up under questioning admitting to something without wanting a lawyer present which is a longshot! The key to reopening this case is Francis Bean. When she gets older and Love exerts no more influence over her, I think she could legitimately request that the SPD reopen the case and release the coroners report along with all the evidence that was collected at the scene. With Tom Grant's assistance, I believe the real truth surrounding Kurt's death will finally come to light.

Courtney love was not the only person involved in this. I love how everyone focuses on her as the hit person. But no one ever thinks about the truth of the matter. Krist was headed on the path which we ended up taking the eyes a drift project, as well as the other band projects that Krist did, plus his venture into political matters. Kurt was wanting to do some stuff with Michael Stipe, a solo acoustic project, and so on... Kurt had depression but who the hell wouldn't if you were in his shoes. Kurt went through a lot. But I defy one person to say they them selves have not thought of suicide when life looked so bleak to you at that moment. That coupled with the fact of Kurts dark since of humor it give easy access to blame him that he was Suicidal and always depressed. Yet if you watch interviews with Kurt leading to his last days he was Happy and he out look on life had totally changed on so many different things. Kurt pissed off the record company who would lose a lot of money if he stopped touring for them, and that coupled with the whole Courtney shit is why Kurt ended up dead. If he dies no body loses and in fact they relied upon that fact look what happened When Kurt's death was announced Album sales, T-shirt sales all went through the roof. I have been pro active since 1999 in an attempt to get this case reopened. I believe she had a direct and indirect involvement in his murder. What saddens me is even if we went back in time and tried to warn Kurt and actively left the relationship, I cannot see him kicking his heroin habit which was getting fairly full on in the last 12 months right up to his last weeks booting with Dylan. I don't see him leaving her (the absolute conniving, manipulative and chameleon like liar) and his life getting immediately getting better - not when you are a heavily addicted to any drug - particularly heroin. I have always thought Cali, Dylan and CL were all in on it with her using their addictions to get what she ultimately wanted. When it comes to smack - people do many things to feed the sickness . Or more apt stave off the sickness. I admired Kurt and the band since I first heard about a girl on bleach - and the significant difference when Dave joined - finally - the band became mega tight. And they practiced and practiced for 6 months leading into nervermind. This whole affair reads worse than a Greek tragedy. And yet she roams free - blew all the cash (outside of Francis) which was a total travesty given none of it was hers - it was from years of him trying to make music he liked. Kurt bought the gun with Dylan before he went to Exodus. Courtney was already in L.A. How would she know he bought the shotgun? She was in contact with someone that was well aware of where he was and what he was doing.

I think Grant could have got Courtney to confess or implicate herself in a conspiracy if he would have had the presence of mind to present himself as some sort of shady, sycophantic, star-struck P.I. who would do anything for a buck. If he would have presented himself to her as a P.I. who had "other talents" or services to offer for the right price, I think there's a good chance she might have tried to utilize him in some part of the conspiracy/coverup. If not that, I think she would have at least tried to pick his brain or bounce things off of him as an investigator/former police officer who knows the ins and outs of a suicide/homicide investigation. I'm with most people here, there has to be justice for Kurt. I'll be the first admit that I wasn't a big fan of grunge rock and really detested it for a while, but I've learned to appreciate and like it as the years have passed. I've also come to say that Kurt was more than a Rock star, on that he was starting to hit his stride and become more than legendary. But the horror of greed had to stick its head in and cut him at his stride and the man was no more.
